CHAPTER FOUR
Amara was lain on the couch against the far wall in Bulma's room. She had cried herself asleep a few hours ago, but Bulma hadn't been able to sleep a wink. She had pulled the chair close to the window and was looking out of it.
The fighting had started again because she could see small ki blasts light the sky every once in a while. But it looked like nothing too serious had occurred in the battles thus far.
"Radditz. Don't leave me, come back." Amara raised her hands into the air, as she mumbled in her sleep. Her hands flexed, opening and closing as if she were trying to grab onto something. "Radditz? I can't loose you."
Bulma sighed and looked away from Amara. She couldn't stand the sight of the poor woman. She looked at the clock on the wall. They were in the early morning hours now. She leaned back in the chair. Fatigue was pulling her eyelids shut and she welcomed sleep with open arms.
<~~~>
The bedroom door was thrust open with so much force that it hit the wall, leaving an indentation where the doorknob had struck.
Amara sat up, her eyes wide and Bulma mirrored her. Amara turned and saw Radditz. She gasped and got to her feet.
Part of the upper-half of his armor was gone, leaving some of his chest bare and the rest barely covered by the tattered material. His muscular body was ridden with wounds that were seeping blood.
"Radditz?" Amara asked, advancing towards the doorway.
"Hi."
"Oh Radditz!" She threw her arms around him and cried into his chest. "I thought you were dead! I've never been so afraid in my life."
He grimaced as she embraced him and drew in a breath. He lifted her head and wiped her tears away with his thumb. "Hey, it's all right. I'm here now and I'm alive." He smiled but it didn't look right in the mask of blood on his face. "Barely, but I'm hanging in there."
She pulled away from him and sniffled. "We'll get you all cleaned up and nurse you back to health, don't worry about that."
Bulma walked up to them. "Where's Vegeta?"
Amara gasped. "Yes, is he all right?"
Radditz glanced down the hallway. "Well…he'll be okay with medical attention." He stepped deeper into the room, drawing Amara with him. Nappa entered with Vegeta, carrying the smaller man in his arms.
"Oh Kami," Bulma whispered as she regarded the prince.
He was even more tattered and torn than Radditz. He was conscious, but not by much. Nappa laid him down on the bed. Nappa's injuries seemed milder than the others.
"Go get help," Radditz told him. He nodded and left the room.
Bulma knelt at Vegeta's bedside. She reached out and touched his forehead. He opened his eyes slowly.
"Vegeta?" Tears were beginning to make trails down her cheeks.
He gave her a faint smirk. "Why are you crying?" His voice came out only a harsh whisper.
She shook her head. "I don't know. But I still can't believe you came for me after I…"
"I told you…the seal…" He cried out in pain and clutched his hand to his chest. He closed his eyes, tightly and his free hand clawed at the sheets.
"Prince!" Radditz moved closer to the bed. "He was nearly killed for us. We went out there to protect him and we ended up reversing roles."
"That's because…you wouldn't have been able to…handle it alone…" Vegeta managed to say when the pain subsided.
Bulma ran her fingers through his flame-shaped hair. "Shh. Just relax."
He looked at her. "You didn't want me touching you before… and now you…"
"I'm grateful that you saved me," she said. "I guess you aren't as bad as I originally thought. If you would have just let them kill me I would have been out of your hair forever."
His breathing was becoming shallow. "What fun would that be?"
She smiled, slightly. He turned his head away from her and exhaled. His body quieted and he became still.
Bulma pulled her hand away from him and looked at his face in horror. Radditz came up behind her and placed his hand on her shoulder.
"Don't worry, he's still alive," he assured her. "I can feel his ki, it's faint but there."
Bulma nodded.
"WHERE IS MY SON?"
The three turned as the very upset King Vegeta came through the door. A medical crew came in after him. He went over to the bed and looked down at his son.
"WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED HERE?"
Bulma cringed as his powerful voice filled the room.
"Sir, the people in the city are forming a revolution," Radditz said.
The King turned on him. "A revolution against me?"
"I'm afraid so. I heard it with my own ears."
He looked back to a few guards at the doorway. "Check up on this. I want to know exactly what the hell is going on down there!" He looked to the medical crew who had started working on Vegeta. "I'm putting my heir's life in your hands. If he dies, you will all die as well." With that said, he left the room.
Bulma watched at the medics work feverously on the prince.
"Should we move him?" one asked.
"No, it will probably cause him more pain. He's fine here, right?" He looked up at Radditz.
Radditz nodded. "Yeah." He was leaning, heavily on Amara.
"Are you in need of medical attention?"
"What kind of fucking question is that?" Amara shouted. "Of course he is! I was wondering when one of you would notice, since about half a dozen of you are standing around watching the others work."
Radditz squeezed Amara's arm. "Babe, calm down."
A few of the medics came over and took him from Amara. They sat him down on the couch and began to clean and bandage his wounds, while the rest occupied themselves with Vegeta.
<~~~>
Radditz opened his eyes and looked around the room. He could hear someone humming softly. He set eyes on Amara who was sitting on the edge of the bed, brushing her ebony hair.
"That's a nice song."
She turned and smiled warmly at him. "You think so?"
He nodded. "What happened? I don't remember coming into this room? Where are we?"
"We're in a spare room in the palace," Amara said. "The King thought it would be better if we stayed here. You shouldn't remember coming into the room, you passed out."
"Did I?"
"Yeah and you scared me half to death." She crawled onto the bed next to him. She bent down and kissed his cheek. "You'll be okay, no major injuries."
"What about the Prince?"
"He'll be all right, too," she said. "You two just need rest."
He tried to sit up, but realized that it caused him too much pain and flopped down again.
"Don't you know what rest means?"
He laughed, even that hurt. "You're not supposed to yell at the ill."
"I can if they're as hard-headed as you." She ran her fingers down the slope of his jaw. "That's why I'm so afraid when you go out to battle. I just know you'll do something careless."
"Hey, give me a little more credit than that."
"I'll give it to you when you earn it."
He shook his head. "You're a spoiled bitch."
"And you're an arrogant bastard. So that makes us even."
"Guess so," he said. "What did daddy dearest have to say about you spending the night up in this room with me?"
"I told him I was looking after you," she said. "It's not like you could make love to me in your condition."
"Do you want to bet your life on that?" he asked, in a sexy tone.
"No, Radditz! You go to sleep and I'll be right here."
"Don't I get a goodnight kiss?"
"You're such a pain in the ass," Amara said. "You better be glad that I love you."
She lowered her face to his and kissed him, open-mouthed. His tongue danced around in her mouth and she bit down on it gently. This lasted a few more minutes before she pulled away.
"That was hardly a kiss," he said.
"Then why are you winded?"
"I'm injured."
She laughed. "Bullshit. Now, go to bed." She turned out the light and snuggled up beside him. She laid her head on the bend of his arm and placed her hand lightly on his chest.
"I would love to see the look on your father's face if he walked in and saw us like this."
"Do you want my father to kill you?" she asked.
"I doubt that he could," Radditz boasted. "I'd like to see him try."
"I told you that you were an arrogant bastard, didn't I?"
He lifted his head a little. "You sure are vulgar for a rich, councilman's daughter."
"Funny how I didn't get that way until I met you," she said, softly. "That was the best day of my life."
