Chapter Eighteen

"What do you mean he's coming with us?!"

"I don't like it either, but my father insists that Yamcha comes along."

"Why?"

"To make sure that I'm okay I suppose," she said with a sigh.

"And you told your father that you would let him come along?"

"Yes, what was I supposed to say?" she asked.

He crossed his arms. "Hn! Well if he gets in trouble or dies, it's not my problem."

She nodded and glanced in Yamcha's direction. He was leaning against the wall just outside the door. He pushed away from the wall and stepped into the room.

Another man jumped down from the spaceship that Vegeta, Kakarot, Radditz and Bulma were going to be taking. "Everything's all set."

She nodded and advanced towards the ship. Vegeta followed and Radditz and Kakarot trailed behind. They started to board the ship and Dr. Briefs watched from the level above them. He and his daughter had all ready said their good-byes.

Bulma felt his gaze upon her and turned, letting the others move ahead of her. She met his eyes and turned away. He wanted her back on Earth and soon. He probably wouldn't wait for long and he might even go as far as coming after her. She knew that if that did happen, he might not survive long enough to take her back. She watched Vegeta disappear inside the ship. She knew very well that Vegeta had no intention of letting her go at all.

She followed the Saiya-jins onboard and took her seat. She watched the hatch close and thought of it as a door shutting out a life she once knew. And once the hatch opened again, it would reveal a new life to her. But how long would she be able to peacefully live out her new life?

Yamcha hadn't left his cabin once since the ship was in space. That was probably a good thing on his part because Bulma couldn't stand him and Vegeta didn't know him, but then again he had no desire to.

Bulma had contemplated on telling Vegeta about what happened with Yamcha in the halls the night before, but decided against it. If she did tell him, he would kill Yamcha on the spot and though she didn't like him, she didn't want him murdered before her eyes.

She decided to give him one more chance, if he came on to her again after what she told him last night. He didn't deserve to be around.

Radditz and Kakarot were in the control room. Radditz was leaning against the wall, peering out of the window. Kakarot was sitting down.

"Should I feel relived?"

Radditz turned to his brother. "What?"

"Frieza's base was destroyed," he said. "There were people stationed on the nearest planet. The people from Earth claim that he's dead, but I don't feel relived."

"Well, no one has proof that he's dead," Radditz said. "No one can back up what they're claiming."

Kakarot nodded.

"Of course you don't feel relived," Vegeta said, entering the room. "Frieza's not dead."

"You don't think he is, either?" Kakarot asked.

"I know he's not," he replied, descending the steps to the control area that dipped below the level of the floor when the room was first entered. "He wouldn't die like that. I will only feel satisfied when he dies by my hand. He's still alive, I can guarantee it."

"So what should we do?" Radditz asked.

"Look for him?" Kakarot suggested.

He shook his head. "No. We'll monitor this area. He's going to make an appearance sooner or later and when he does he'll probably come for us. If we keep monitoring him, we'll know exactly when, where and how to respond."

Bulma walked into the room and leaned against the railing that surrounded the control area. "I couldn't help but to overhear. If that's your plan then I'm the one who can keep tabs on Frieza."

The Saiya-jins looked at her.

"If Frieza really isn't dead then with Earth's technology and the strength of the warriors from your planet, we'll be able to take him out for sure this time."

"We?" Vegeta asked.

She blinked at him.

"I intend to kill him alone," he said.

She sighed and said under breath, "Of course." She raised her voice, "I'll just help track him down, okay? Then he's all yours." She smiled. "The truth is, I doubt that Freiza is dead, also. It was a nice try though." She turned to leave.

"How long until we reach Vegeta-sei?" Radditz called after her.

She half-turned. "It shouldn't be too long…a few days…" She left the room and Vegeta followed a moment later.

Radditz turned back to the window. "You think they're doing all right now that Malem was thrown in jail?"

Kakarot shrugged. "I don't see any reason why not. We'll find out soon enough."

Bulma turned in the hallway. "I have the feeling that I'm being followed."

Vegeta smirked.

She opened the door to her cabin and walked inside. He came in after he and closed the door. She smiled and watched him lay down on her bed. She crawled onto the bed and moved beside him.

She straddled his waist and leaned down to kiss him. Her lips met his, softly. He folded his arms around her, pulling her body more securely to his.

She was the first to break the kiss and he loosened his hold on her. She moved back until she could see his face clearly. "I have a question that I've been meaning to ask you."

"Then ask."

"Why did you spare my life?"

"What?"

"When I was first captured," she said. "You didn't know me. And don't tell me it was because of my appearance because that's not true."

It was then that Vegeta remembered how this had all started. It wasn't that he had really forgotten, but he had put it out of his mind with all that had happened.

He smirked.

"What?" she asked. "What is it?"

"You could say that I knew you indirectly," Vegeta said.

"What is that supposed to mean?"

He pulled her down so that her body was flush to his. He moved his lips close to her ear, "You should be careful where you bathe. Someone could be watching."

She frowned at first and then her eyes widened, slightly. She turned her head. "Watch where I bathe, huh? You were watching me in the lake? I do recall having a strange feeling."

"Is that why you stopped showing up?" he asked.

"You watched me more than once?" She blushed. "I had no idea."

"And I made a promise to myself that I would have you at any cost," he said.

She smiled. "Well, you have me now."

"That's right," he said. "And I'm not letting you get away." He tightened his arms around her for emphasis. "Your fate is sealed."

Her smile widened. "I'm fine with that. Now let's stop talking."

"Got other things in mind?" he asked.

"You bet," she said.

Amara looked out of the window. "What in the hell are they rioting about now? Malem is in jail and we told them the truth." She turned to Bardock.

He came to stand next to her. "Bulma contacted me earlier today. Apparently, the others are on their way here."

"That's good. Do you know when they'll arrive?"

"I couldn't say…"

She set her elbows on the sill and rested her chin in her palms. "I hope it's soon or they won't have a planet left to come back to."
