Chapter Twenty-Two

The shuffle of feet echoed through the hallways of the palace long before the people came into view. Amara walked abreast with Kort and numerous other soldiers walked behind them. Some were dragging Malem and others were simply walking alongside of them.

When the people in the palace opened a door or came down a stairwell and spotted the assembly of soldiers lugging Malem, they stopped and talked amongst themselves. Some asked what had happened and others joined the group.

Radditz and Kakarot stepped into the hallway and frowned, wondering what was going on. Radditz spotted Amara and waited for her to walk closer to him before reaching out and grabbing her arm.

“Where have you been?” he demanded.

“With them.” She jerked a thumb back at the crowd that continued to walk past.

“All night?”

Amara nodded and pulled her arm away from him. She crossed her arms under her breasts. So Radditz had woken up last night after she left. She wondered what the first thing that came to his mind was.

Radditz noticed Malem for the first time and frowned again. Amara sensed his confusion and took one of his arms. “Come along with us and you'll find out what happened.”

Amara rejoined the group, with Radditz and Kakarot in tow this time. They finally came to the room they desired. There were two soldiers guarding the doors who immediately were at attention.

They looked over the group and then opened the double doors. Inside the room was the king's throne, but it was empty at the moment.

Prince Vegeta was standing off to the side, talking to Bardock. He didn't look surprised at all. He had been informed of Malem and Yamcha's escape last night.

He was told that the soldiers would bring back Malem, but he agreed that Yamcha was expendable and his presence was absent from the group this morning.

The soldiers held Malem up by his arms, the rest of his body sagged. He was bloody and beaten, but still alive. He lifted his head slowly and opened one eye as the prince approached him. The other eye was swollen shut.

Malem's body became tense and he struggled to get his feet under him. Vegeta stood in front of him with his infamous smirk on his face.

“Wait,” Malem said.

Vegeta's smirk was replaced with a frown. “I've been waiting for this moment.” He lifted his hand and Malem tensed further.

“Don't kill me,” he said. “I'll give you anything you desire.”

“Coward,” Vegeta spat. “Nothing would satisfy me more than your death.”

Malem opened his mouth to speak, but words didn't have a chance to escape his mouth before Vegeta's fist was in his stomach.

Amara didn't have a clear view of Vegeta and Malem. She looked up at Radditz and couldn't decipher the expression on his face.

She moved to get a better view and when she did, her eyes took in something she hadn't expected to see. Vegeta's hand had entered through Malem's stomach and exited through his back.

Vegeta's stony expression never faltered as low guttural sounds escaped from Malem. He pulled his hand back in one fluid motion and the soldiers let Malem fall prone onto the floor.

Vegeta shook his hand and blood spattered on the floor. “Take him away.”

Malem's ki had faded away and he lay unmoving on the floor. His chest didn't rise or fall and the room was silent as the soldiers lifted the body from the floor.

“Prince, we have the names of his followers…” one soldier began.

“Find them and execute them as well.”

“Right.”

The group filtered out of the room, leaving only Vegeta and Bardock behind.

“You were in on the whole thing?” Bulma asked from her chair in the lab.

Amara nodded. “Yes.”

“I really had no idea,” she said shaking her head in disbelief. “Well, you did a good job because Malem and Yamcha didn't catch on either.”

“To trick the enemy, one must first trick his or her allies.” Amara crossed her arms and leaned against a counter.

“Where did you get that one from?” Bardock asked.

Amara ignored him and kept her attention on Bulma. Amara hadn't told Bulma the part about the soldiers devising their own plan and she thinking they were really going to be kidnapped.

“I can't believe Yamcha made an alliance with Malem just to get to me,” Bulma said.

“If I were you, I'd take that as a compliment.”

Bulma blushed and Bardock chuckled. Amara smiled at Bulma's expression.

“But in all seriousness, Yamcha had no morals. He was a single-minded man.”

Bulma nodded in agreement and turned back to her console. Amara glanced at Bardock who seemed to be busy with work as well.

“Still nothing sighted on those screen and radars?” Amara asked, changing the subject.

“Afraid not,” Bulma said.

“And you still believe Frieza is alive out there?”

“Until we gather solid proof that he's dead, we're going to keep looking.”

Amara turned and met Bardock's eyes. “Better safe than sorry, huh?” She pushed away from the counter. “That makes sense.”

The door opened and everyone turned to see Prince Vegeta standing in the doorway. He stepped inside the room and looked at Bardock and Amara.

“I want to talk to Bulma alone,” Vegeta said.

Bardock gave one curt nod and headed for the door. Amara followed a few moments later and the door closed soundly behind them.

Bulma watched Vegeta as he made his way over to her. He stood behind her and crossed his arms, but his eyes were on the screen in front of them.

She followed his gaze to the screen. Vegeta reached out and turned her chair around suddenly. She gasped and found herself now facing him.

He leaned over her and slid his hand along her thigh. She shuddered at his touch and ran her finger down the slope of his jaw.

He lifted his head to look at her and she leaned toward him. The kiss was just a mere brush of lips at first, but then Vegeta grabbed the back of the chair, pulling her against him and deepening the kiss.

A sound of approval escaped Bulma's mouth and she slowly rose from her chair, never breaking the kiss.

Vegeta put his arms around her and moved back until she was wedged between him and a counter. His hands roamed her body and she wrapped her arms around his neck.

His lips parted from hers, but only to slide down to her neck. He nipped the side of it and spoke against her skin. “I'm going to make you mine. This is where my claim mark will be.”

She tilted her head to one side to give him better access to her neck. “What do you mean?”

He drew back from her a little. “When all of this is over I'm going to make you my mate. I'll pierce this skin with my teeth…” His warm breath fell over the spoken area. “…Your blood will flow into my mouth and we will be bonded. You will be mine…forever.”

Bulma felt her eyes widen. Biting? Blood? Is that how the Saiya-jin version of marriage goes? I should have done some reading on the Saiya-jin culture…that or I could have a nice chat with Amara about bonding.

She slid her fingers into Vegeta's hair and smiled as his mouth descended to her neck again. It doesn't matter what the process is. I want to be with him at any cost.

She felt his hand at the hem of her pants and her smile widened. “I thought you said you wanted to talk to me.”

He made a sound that resembled both a grunt and a chuckle. “Talking isn't necessary for what I plan to do with you.”

She laughed, but her laughter was quickly replaced with a gasp as she felt her pants sliding down her legs. “Vegeta…”

He smirked as he unwound his tail from his waist. Bulma jumped as the tip touched her bare thigh. It continued its path upward. Its soft but steady touch was driving her crazy and causing things low in her body to tighten.

Vegeta heard her breath quicken and pulled back from her neck. His fingers found her panties and he tugged at them.

Bulma grabbed his face and pulled him in for a kiss. His tongue entered through her readily parted lips and explored her mouth. She bit down gently on it, drawing a sound from low in Vegeta's throat.

The sound of a blaring alarm made Bulma jumped. Vegeta pulled away from her and looked up.

“Did we hit a button?” Bulma wondered looking at the counter behind them but finding it void of buttons.

Vegeta looked toward the screen and saw a few dots flashing on it. “What does that mean?”

“What?” Bulma couldn't see the screen from her current position.

Vegeta took her pants and pulled them up her legs again. He stepped back and she fastened the button.

She went to the screen and looked up at it. She frowned and began typing frantically on the console. Her eyes never left the screen.

“Oh Kami.”

“What is it?” Vegeta asked, sounding slightly annoyed this time.

“The radars have located Frieza…”

Vegeta placed his hands down on the counter and looked at the screen again. “Are you sure it's him?”

“It has to be,” she said.

“Where's he headed?”

“My first guess would be here.” She punched a few more keys. “I can't tell where he's heading just yet.”

“From his current location, how long would it take him to get here?”

Bulma paused. “I'm not sure…maybe a week. Are you going to wait for him to come to you?”

“Of course not,” he said. “Get all the information you can and keep me updated. I'm going to inform the others.”

Bulma nodded. “Right.” She watched him walk toward the door and sighed. “Talk about killing the mood.”

He stopped for a moment and turned back to her. “We'll pick up where we left off later.”

She seemed delighted at this and he laughed.

“I'll do everything I can to aid you in getting that lizard this time.”

He nodded. “Glad to hear it.” He went for the door again and found Bardock and Amara standing together down the hallway.

“I heard alarms,” Amara said. “Is it him?”

Vegeta gave one curt now and walked past them. Bardock and Amara shared a look before disappearing into the laboratory.
