Chapter One: Meet Bulma Briefs-Sixteen Year Old Genius!
“GOKU! Where are you Goku!?” A boy in green pants and a white shirt called out the door of a tiny house. He had thick spiky hair that fell to his back and carried a red pole that was strapped to his back. His name was Gukotsu and he had noticed that his brother wasn't anywhere around their house.
Goku in the meantime was far from hearing his brother's shouts. He sat by a large clear blue riverbed where birds and many other animals gathered. He was completely naked as he dangled his furry brown tail in the water, wiggling it like a sick snake, hoping the bait would be enough to catch the attention of a fish.
Goku kept his eyes on the water and smiled when he saw a huge river shark head towards him. It was pale blue and silver and looked juicy rather than bony like the last fish he caught. When it was less than a foot away from his tail Goku switched his tactics and dove into the river, hoping his tail wouldn't be caught in the big fish's sharp-toothed mouth.
The fish thrashed and wiggled about, hoping to either get away or eat the little monkey boy that bothered him. Goku had other plans though so he grabbed the back fin and leaped out of the water, killing the fish quickly on the hard and rocky shoreline.
“Wow! This fish is HUGE! Gukotsu is gonna be very happy with me!” Goku marveled at the size of the fish. It was at least twice his girth and height. As he began to head back home to his brother with the fish over his shoulder a large stenonychosaurus (for those non dinosaur-savvy people, think of a 7 to 8 foot tall velociraptor) came out into Goku's sight and hissed menacingly.
“You want my fish, don't you? Well too bad `cause I worked hard to catch him. Catch a fish yourself!” Goku said, standing protectively over his food. The dinosaur snarled and leaped at Goku, its claws ready to strike. Goku grinned. A fight was just what he needed to get his energy back and absolutely no one was going to take his fish away.
Gukotsu meanwhile was swiftly running high and low, looking in caves and on top of trees calling for his brother, “Goku! Where are you Goku! GOKUU!” He needed to find him so they could have an adventure and wash their cloths in the river.
He ran onto the flat path that went on forever and was startled when a strange beast hit him, causing its head to bend and smoke to pour out of its mouth. The monster was shiny silver and green with clear eyes, where a strange person sat.
“Damnit kid, you totaled my car!” The now furious strange person crawled out of the monster and it glared at the confused Gukotsu, “Don't you know not to run out into traffic! You're in my way so leave!”
“You can't tell me what to do you monster!” Gukotsu shouted back causing the blue-haired monster to flush red.
“You stupid brat! I'll show you a monster!” the `monster' pulled out a shotgun and fired it at Gukotsu's hear without a second thought.
The bullet made a `pinging' sound and he winced, “Hey, that stung me you monster!” He wasn't even bruised.
`Wow, that kid is tough. Uh oh, I made him mad. I'd better talk my way out of this,' “Whoa there, kid. I'm not a monster, I'm a girl!”
Gukotsu blinked in surprise, “You're a girl? I've never seen a girl before. Grampa always told us if we ever met a girl to treat them nice. I'm sorry for thinking you were a monster.”
“That's okay kid. My name is Bulma Briefs, and I'm a genius.”
“My name's Gukotsu Son and I'm looking for my brother.”
“Oh, the poor darling is he lost out here?” Bulma mentally pictured a little five-year-old crying for is brother while a saber toothed tiger growled at him.
“No, he probably got distracted while he was doing something like--”
“Gukotsu! Look at what I caught!” Goku walked proudly onto the road, and he showed off his giant fish and the dinosaur he captured caught to his brother.
“That's great, Goku! That should be enough for lunch and we can even share some with Miss. Bulma. She's a girl Goku.”
“Wow, a real girl?” Goku said, amazed.
“Yes, I'm a real girl,” Bulma said, exasperated. How old was this munchkin, ten?
“Do you want to eat lunch at our house Miss Bulma?”
“Sure, but don't call me Miss.”
As they headed back to the Son brother's tiny house Goku kept looking at Bulma and he finally let curiosity overtake him as he pulled up her skirt and asked “Hey Bulma. Why don't you have a tail?”
“Ack!” Bulma swatted Goku's hand away and she turned to yell at him, “Don't you ever lift up a girl's skirt! That's so perverted and rude!” She looked at Goku who stared innocently back and finally noticed the brown tail that swayed behind him. “Hey, you have a tail.”
“So does Gukotsu,” Goku said, “Where's yours?”
“I don't have a tail.”
“Wow, I guess only boys have tails then.”
“Yeah right,” Bulma muttered, but wondered. She had never really seen a naked boy before. For all she knew boys really did have tails. But then again their tails could just be costumes.
After a quick lunch outside their home they decided to go inside. When they crossed the threshold Bulma spotted a warm orange sphere with four red stars sitting on a cushion in their home.
“Wow, you guys have a Dragonball. May I have it?”
“No way! That's our Grampa's ball,” Goku said crossly.
“But I'm collecting them, see,” she showed them the two she already had, “I need all seven to complete the collection.”
“Like Goku said, no way,” Gukotsu refuses, “It was a gift from our grandpa and giving it away just like that wouldn't be right.”
“But just think about it. Maybe if you come with me and have fun out off this mountain you can have it back when I'm done with it.”
“What's off the mountain?” Gukotsu asked.
“Lots of things, people and cities. Maybe we'll see the ocean or a desert!”
“That sounds fun,” Goku said, “I want to come with you guys!”
“I don't know,” Bulma said, “You don't look old enough. And I don't think you're as strong as your brother. He can't protect the both of us can he?”
“I could protect myself. And just because Gukotsu beats me all the time when we spar doesn't mean I'm weak.” Goku said with a slightly miffed voice.
“How about this Goku. I'll go with Bulma for a little while and when we're finished I'll come back and we can go somewhere together. Just guard the mountain and make sure it stays safe until I come back.”
“Well, I don't know…I guess if you think that would work we could do it,” Goku reluctantly agreed and watched his brother smile in joy as Bulma whooped about having `a little bodyguard.'
An hour later Gukotsu hopped onto the back of Bulma's motorcycle and they drive off. “Wow Bulma, did you really help your dad make these?” Gukotsu asked.
“You'd better believe it,” Bulma said, proudly, “I've invented tons of things like anti-gravity boots and this,” she showed him the Dragon Radar.
“What it that?” Gukotsu asked.
“This is the Dragon Radar. It's a machine I invented to track down the Dragonballs.”
Meanwhile Goku sat back in his home and sighed, but grinned, feeling his optimistic nature return, “I wanna spar but Gukotsu's gone. I hope he comes back soon. I bet he'll be back tomorrow.”
