Chapter Seven

"Dinner"

Alanna and Knight said a long goodbye, then Trunks took Alanna home. On the way, they talked about Knight and agreed that neither could find a thing wrong with him. Funny, Alanna thought, looking up at Trunks, I could say the same about you. Only when they got home did they realize they had spent the entire day at the barn. Trunks sent Alanna off to have a shower. He took a five-minute one himself, then got started on dinner. Shortly, Alanna padded into the kitchen, sniffing. "Mm, something smells good, Trunks. I didn't know you could cook so well."

"First," Trunks said, "I can't smell it because as soon as you step into the room there's no better scent in the world." He winked as Alanna turned red. "And second, if you think it smells good, wait `till you taste it. Have a seat."

Alanna sat in her usual spot across from his. Their places were already set, but Alanna noticed that there were dishes on the counter...enough for one other person. "Is someone joining us, Trunks?" She asked as he started to put pots and dishes filled with food on the table. She scowled inwardly at the thought that Pan might be the third.

He shrugged. "Maybe. I usually put them out in case Father decides he wants to join us. He's unpredictable like that..."

Alanna nodded, then a question occurred to her. "What if he decides he wants food and you don't have his stuff out?"

Trunks paused, halfway to putting a jug of Nestea on the table. "I did that once..." he said. "I...won't ever forget again."

Alanna decided it was best not to press. She thanked Trunks for dinner and started eating.

As it turned out, Vegeta didn't even appear that night. While it seemed that he was training, because that was the norm, he was actually sitting in a nondescript room by himself, contemplating his life's latest developments. He listened to Trunks and Alanna's conversation a little, trying to find a weakness between them that he could exploit, but, hearing nothing of use, he turned them out after they headed to bed and set his mind to thinking of something more useful.
