Chapter 3 - A Sad Day

Three doctors and a nurse burst into Bulma's hospital room, awakening Vegeta from his slumber. The nurse tried to usher him out of the room, but he stood in the corner, next to the bed, refusing to budge.

"Sir," she said, "I know that you want to know what happens, but you cannot be in here while the doctors are working."

Vegeta clenched his fists. "Stupid baka woman! I'm not going to leave my mate and a weakling like you could not make me!"

Trunks and Bra walked in. They forced their way past the nurse and over to their father. Bra put her hand on his arm and gently pulled him towards the door. When he did not stir, Trunks looked at his dad and said, "Your being here will not help mom."

Reluctantly, he allowed his daughter and son to pull him out of his wife's hospital room and back into the waiting room. In the waiting room, Chichi had fallen asleep on the floor on a makeshift bed. There were wrappers from food from the vending machines piled upon the tables. On one of the tables was a large bag, which Bra hastily picked up. She brought the bag back to Vegeta and said, "Here, dad. I know you haven't eaten at all since breakfast, so I went back home and made some sandwiches." Actually, they were the ones that mom had made for you.

Vegeta stared at the bag for a moment and then snatched it out of his daughter's hands. He sat down and finished all the sandwiches in the bag in record time. Without getting food all over myself, like that slob Kakkarot. Vegeta could not sit still. He stood from the chair and started to pace.

After crossing the room for the twenty-second time, Vegeta collapsed to his knees, holding his chest. A pain ripped through his body like lightning and he convulsed madly on the floor.

When the pain stopped as instantly as it began, Vegeta regained his composure and stood, keeping his gaze lowered. His eyes snapped from the floor and up to the doctor as he entered the waiting room, looking at the door lying on the ground. Chichi stirred on the floor and sat up. The doctor fidgeted as Vegeta stared at him. "Um…" he said, "Well, uh, Bulma Briefs was pronounced dead at 10:26 pm."

"There's no way!" Vegeta panted. "My mate cannot be dead!" He turned and burst through a window as he flew off.

Dammit, where's Goku when you need him? Chichi thought.

"Kakkarot! Where the fuck are you?" Vegeta screamed. He reached out, searching for Goku's ki. When he finally found it, Vegeta blasted through the air in that direction. Goku was eating again when Vegeta touched down outside his house. Although he sensed him coming, Goku allowed Vegeta to burst through the door and grab him.

"You are going on a hunt, Kakkarot. You are going to find the Dragonballs and wish Bulma back." Vegeta stated.

Goku did not reply, he just continued to eat.

"Kakkarot! You're not going to ignore me! You are going to find the Dragonballs!" he yelled.

Goku dropped the chopsticks he had been holding and looked up sadly at Vegeta. "You want me to find the Dragonballs and wish Bulma back to life? Vegeta, if she means this much to you, then why aren't you looking for them yourself?"

Vegeta could not respond to the question presented to him by Goku and decided not to stay to hear what else Goku had to say. He stormed out of the house and took off into the night, finding himself headed for Capsule Corporation, back to their room. Landing on the balcony, he paused, reaching for the handle of the sliding door. Slowly, he slid the door open and entered their bedroom. Her scent overwhelmed him as he made his way over to the bed that they shared. Not bothering to fold down the blankets, Vegeta just climbed on top of the bed. He closed his eyes and inhaled deeply, taking in as much of her smell as he could. He fell asleep.

The radio clock read 12:00. As the time changed to 12:01, the radio turned on, causing Vegeta to sit straight up when he heard the music:

"There is something that I see
In the way you look at me
There's a smile, there's a truth in your eyes
But an unexpected way
On this unexpected day
Could it be this is where I belong
It you I loved all along
There's no more mystery
It is finally clear to me
You're the home my heart searched for so long
And it is you I have loved all along"

**FLASHBACK**

The radio was playing as Bulma curled up with her husband. She smiled and gently touched the tiny scar on her shoulder as she leaned against his chest.

She gently started humming to the tune of the radio:

"There were times I ran to hide
Afraid to show the other side
Alone in the night without you
But now I know just who you are
And I know you hold my heart
Finally, this is where I belong
And it is you I have loved all along
There's no more mystery
It is finally clear to me
You're the home my heart searched for so long
And it is you I have loved all along"

She grinned and planted a quick kiss on Vegeta's cheek as he looked at her in annoyance. "This should be our song," she whispered.

He smirked and turned out the light. "Then let's make it."

"Oh, over and over
I'm filled with emotion
Your love, it rushes through my veins
And I am filled with the sweetest devotion
As I look into your perfect face
There's no more mystery
It is finally clear to me
You're the home my heart searched for so long
And it is you I have loved
It is you I have loved"

**END FLASHBACK**

"It is you I have loved all along"

Vegeta snapped back into reality as the song finished. As his anger surged up inside him, he took the radio and ripped the cord out of the wall. He stormed over to the balcony and threw it with all his strength and watched it disappear into the blackness.
