Seven: Risks
Trunks watched as his mother continued pacing back and forth across their living room. "Mom, you need to relax. Goku's got it under control." Goten chimed in, "Yeah, my dad has it under control. I don't think we need to worry so much." Just then the sound of the front door opening and closing echoed throughout the hallway, "Hello? Anybody home?" A girl's voice rang through the large dome shaped building, leading into the living room. Bulma recognized the young girl's voice and was relieved to hear it.
Rai-en poked her head around the corner into the living room and greeted them with a bright smile. "Hey! It's me!" Goten was especially happy to see her, "Rai-en! You're back early!" She grew a little more serious, looking around the room for something or someone. "Yeah, and for a good reason too. Listen. . . I got the sense that something pretty strange was going on here . . . is everything all right?" The tension in the room was obvious, and by the way everyone grew silent and avoided eye contact she assumed something was wrong. "I'll take that as a no . . . what's been going on?" She dropped her stuff in the corner, and continued now straight faced and prepared for whatever the news. "Whatever it is, I can handle it. It can't possibly be that bad . . . can it?"
Bulma was a bit on the frustrated side to say much so Trunks took it upon himself to explain their grim situation. "Rai . . . we have a problem__" Goten butt in, "My father is with Vegeta, and some red-haired woman__"
Rai-en instantly cut in upon hearing those words, if her memory served her right then this was going to be much more difficult. "Wait...red hair...and she's where? With your fathers...." She didn't want to jump to conclusions, but she had a sinking feeling, this odd sense of dread settling in and well it didn't feel right. To her misfortune Trunks confirmed her suspicions,
"Yeah, long red hair with an outfit to match, she's done something to my father....I don't know what. The worst part is, she seems like she knows a lot about him....it wasn't until she intruded and I confronted her myself that I knew she was saiyan..." He trailed off noticing the blank expression on her face.
Before he could say another word she quickly spun on her heels and bolted out the back door. The other's weren't quick enough to object either. "Rai! No wait!" but it was too late for it, as the sounds of the door slamming shut behind her echoed through the hall. Trunks began to think about what could have been her motive to just run out like that, and then it hit him. He just remembered why else that Samara was so familar, he had only caught a quick glimpse of her before but he knew, he also knew why Rai was so anxious to jump into the mix....she had a very good reason. She was righteous alright but she wasn't quite prepared, she didn't know exactly what was going on this time, but then again neither did he. The urge to help her soon got to him, and a frown settled onto the demi-saiyan's face as he now directed his focus on his mother. "Sorry mom, I can't just let her fight blind. I have to help out. She's family after all."
About to object, she stopped, and sighed as a weak smile crept onto her lips. "You've got a point..." She knew she couldn't stop him, "Just don't get yourself killed out there!" She shouted to him as he turned and dashed out the door.
He came to sliding halt, around the corner a few feet behind Rai, "Rai-en wait! I'm coming with you!" Upon his voice reaching her ears she spun around quickly to face him, a slightly puzzled expression on her face but she let him catch up. "I can't just let you rush in there alone." She smiled at him, although as confident as she seemed she was relieved to have someone backing her up. "No way you're leaving me behind when there's a fight going on!"
Another voice responded to Trunks' statement, "Yea same goes for me! You guys aren't just gonna leave me here!" The pair was soon joined by Goten, just as eager and willing to help as the two of them. Rai didn't argue with them about joining her, not like she would have made much progress anyway seeing how they're both so stubborn. An agreement was arranged, none of them would jump into the fight unless it looked bad, she had done this before but if Goku was nervous then she knew there was more to it. Finally with no other thoughts or words exchanged, the three of them raced off towards the battle field.
Goku stepped up to his former saiyan counterpart, and could not resist but to try and reason with him. "Vegeta . . . this isn't you. At least... not anymore, you don't let anyone have any sort of control over you! She's poisoned your mind__"
His musings were cut short by the red head that was enjoying the tension from the sidelines. "I don't know why you keep trying." He could sense her moving to attack him from behind him, but he didn't give her the chance. using his instant movement technique to escape her threat. She stumbled back a few steps, surprised she had missed. A smirk crept onto her devilish lips, as she regained her composure. "He's fast . . . good."
He reappeared behind her, instantly following through and connecting with a powerful blow to the woman's backside. She recovered quickly and effortlessly, getting right back into the fight as she countered with a fuerce strike to his his jaw, only to be blocked just as quick. Seeing her mistake by leaving herself open Goku took the advantage and sent her sliding backwards by dealing a forceful blow to her mid-section.
After straightening herself out, brushing herself off idly a cunning grin crossed her features just before she leapt upwards into the air. Using a move quite similar to Goku's, she phased out of view. This took him by surprise, how had she learned that so quickly... but he was taken from his thoughts quickly upon sensing her presence just above him. He had only enough time to look up before she came down at a blazing speed armed with a shattering blow. The attack hadn't done too much damage but he still took a moment to recover, all the while his thoughts were tracing back to how she had picked up on the instantaneous movement technique by simply watching him use it first. This said something about her now, about her style; all she had to do was watch someone perform a technique and then with little or no practice she was using it as though she had known it all her life.
He bit back a few silent curses, it was like she got stronger within that minute she was down. Alright well at least this would be a challenge. A very Vegeta like smirk found it's way on the younger saiyan's face, he liked a good challenge. "Alright Samara. This should be interesting. I'm not going to let you destroy everything he's done!"
She realized he meant to take her out and simply grinned wider. "Well then, I urge you to try your best, but your efforts will only result in failure." She watched as he moved back into a fighting stance and it was then the grueling power struggle began.
went on for a good half hour as the two rivaled fighters exchanged blow for blow, neither showing any sign nor notion of wavering or tire.
It was obvious to both that she was and would be always overpowered by the earth raised saiyan, despite what she did he remaind a few steps ahead of her and kept at his defense against her wicked ideals. Goku hadn't need to give it all he had, the need to jump to any super saiyan form clearly unessacary and would only waste energy. Samara didn't need to be a tactical genius to know she didn't stand a chance, but she had enough of him there just had to be something, anything she could use or do to gain the perfect edge. Yes, she needed to gain an advantage so perfect that despite whatever trick or transformation he used, the final outcome of the battle would remain hers as she had planned it to be so.
Stepping back a few paces, she idly brushed herself off and sneered at the younger warrior. What would do it for her? She hadn't needed to study his fighting style or skills to know what he was capable of, but there had to be something to bring him down off his high horse and fiercely drag him down to the lowest of all levels. Like clockwork, her mind began working, sifting through the vast amount of useless information to find just the right thing to simply gain an edge over him. A sly grin eerily crept onto the deadly beauty's features, like a lightbulb signifying an idea having been thought up. It was a simple attack, not requiring much if her energy and skill but still enough to suit its purpose.
She took to the air as high as she needed in order to execute her attack. "This should put an end to your edge over me." She started gathering a vast amount of ki energy into her palms while holding her arms at eye level. An orb like shape of ki formed, glowing a deep eerie red color. Forming it to what now looked to be a bow and arrow, she held it high before her now.
At first the determined Goku didn't seem to be affected by the sight of it, it was just some trick she pulled out of a hat and figured it would help her. But the grin on her face darkened when she aimed the bow arrow combination right at the younger saiyan. There was a pause, long enough for her to explain her next move; "I assume at some point in your life here on this mudball planet you have heard the phrase 'appearences can be decieving' am I right?"
He turned up a dark brow to her strange question but answered oblidgingly, "What about it?" He had a feeling she was referring to the attack, that it wasn't quite what it looked to be. His assumptions were confirmed, "It's very fitting to this situation, something you'll soon find out."
In a taunting manner, the red haired spitfire blew the unsuspecting saiyan warrior a kiss, and before he could remark, shot the glowing red arrow.
Goku stood his ground, not for one second letting her nor her words intimidate him, though he was still not aware of what was about to happen next. It wasn't until the arrow veered far off from his current position did he stop to question her methods, it almost looked like she missed on purpose. To his misfortune his train of thought was quickly interrupted by the red-haired vixen herself as she came barreling towards him in a blinding speed.
Quickly thinking, he used his instant movement technique to evade her coming assualt, yet obviously not swift enough as he now found himself in the direct path of the arrow. Just as he thought he had escaped his fate . . . he was found wrong, as the arrow struck the unprepared warrior. At that very moment it felt as though time itself had come to a dead halt, unable to move nor utter a single syllable, only grit his teeth as an immense wave of pain swallowed him. Accompanying the torment of pain came the sense that little by little his very energy and power were slipping away leaving him weak. She was right, this was defenitely no ordinary attack.....
