Dragon Ball/Z/GT Fan Fiction ❯ WALK LIKE A MAN ❯ Chapter 11
Mai had considered herself a thrill seeker, always taking a chance on some thrill ride or extreme sport. But by far riding piggyback on Trunks was the most exciting experience to date.
"Isn't this great?" He yelled back to her as she held on for dear life.
"Yes!!" She hollered back tightening her grip around his neck. No speedboat, motorcycle, or even a car ride could compare with this. He could Fly without wings, soar above the clouds effortless as if it had been second nature to him.
"Hold on tight" he ordered taking her up as high as possible then stopping.
He wanted her to know him, as the businessman and the warrior. Wearing his old jacket, which now was now a mere vest, he took her to the open plains for a little lunch and an exhibition of his strength.
"Are we there yet?" Mai asked for the millionth time
"No a little further"
Still hovering he looked down "this should be high enough"
"What?"
In one swift move he detached her from behind his back holding her by the collar.
"Don't be scared...just let the wind carry you"
"What?" Mai feet dangle in the open air
"Flying 101"
He released his grip and she plummeted. In an instant her voice shrieked out a pitiful cry for assistance.
"Remember to let the wind carry you" he chuckled a bit watching her freefall.
"I'm going to kill you!!" Her voice barely audible now as the earth seemed to be coming up to meets her.
"I guess I should get her now" he shrugged then nose dove behind her.
Her heart raced at an unbelievable pace. She could barely see with the wind whipping her face.
"Open you arms and lay flat, catch the wind" she heard him as he closed in behind her. Opening her arms out the wind caught the jacket giving little jerk in the process, she wasn't falling as fast as before, but she wasn't flying either.
"See this is fun...... right?" He plummeted next to her as if this were a casual stroll.
"Yea.......great....augh!!" A strong gust of wind caught her off guard and tossed her around like a rag. This wasn't how he did it. He was graceful like a professional dance that glided across the stage. Mai however was more like tumbleweed caught in the current of a tornado.
"Trunks!!! I'm going cream you!!!
The picnic was great, Trunks lay on his back, and eyes closed soaking up the sun. He had stuffed himself silly after giving Mai a demonstration of his power.
"You're still not mad are you?" He peeked out of one eye.
"Yes" Mai tossing the empty containers into the basket "that little flying lesson thing is going to cost you"
"I'm sorry. I thought you'd enjoy it. I plan on teaching you the proper way to fly, can have my girl not be able to keep up with me" he closed his eyes and continued to soak up the sun. Finishing the packing and collapsing the capsule Mai found a sunny spot next to him, he was breathing softly as she watched his chest rise up and down. He was a different person off the clock, more relaxed, more normal.
"Baby" she whispered in his ear, making him grunt "want to finish talking?" She was interested in hearing the rest of the story about him, his race and those he had lost to the androids.
"Well " he still lay with his hands behind his head "I come from a race of warriors, warriors so strong even I don't know my limits. Saiyin are a proud race, my father was it's prince, his father the king. We were conquers. Goku was the first one who arrived, he was just a baby when he came, and lost all memory of what he was suppose to be. Thank goodness"
"So Goku would have enslaved us and sold us to this Frezia character?"
"Yes, he owned our race that bastard. He owned my father"
"Was your father was stronger than you?"
"In a sense, he was powerful, but not enough to defeat the Androids and Cell, but there is no telling how strong he, Goku or Gohan would have become, you see we grow stronger the more we fight, and even more stronger if we survive a near death experience. "
She snuggled next to him lying her head on his chest realizing he was a fighter by nature, a strong royal of a lost race. She had seen only a few pictures of the others; they looked so normal, with the exception of the crazy hair thing. He did have his father's eyes, the shape and dramatic slant when he frowned, the fixed frown line between his eyes and his father's infamous smirk.
"I could not have done it without help. Traveling back in time made a difference."
It was more exciting than any book she had read or movie made. His stories of action and adventure seemed so unreal. But she knew they were true, she remembered the Androids and the disappearance of the people of Ginger Town.
"Funny" she hugged him tightly "you saved us all and no one knows about it"
"I prefer it that way. Mostly I try to keep a low profile"
"Oh yea...corporate giant"
"Well besides that, I'm very private. I never really had time to socialize in my youth. I'm a bit of a hermit really"
For someone whom lost so much, been through so much, he seemed levelheaded. A normal man would have chucked himself from atop the highest building. His family split apart, friends and loved ones torn from his grasp. Mai felt his pain, wanted to be his comfort in a world so unfair. He wanted nothing but normalcy, the comfort of his home and maybe a family.
"It must be hard for you knowing another part of your life exist in the past. Your friends.... your father"
"I wish you could have met them, they'd loved you" he placed his hand on her back, stroking the curve of her back covered by a tee shirt. "Gohan especially" he sat up "let's not talk about the what if's and concentrate on the could be's"
"Ok" she ran her finger across his chest " but what if I kiss you"
"Works for me"
they were content in echo other arms, sex wasn't the driving force that brought them together. Somehow since the first night they made love, they didn't feel he rush to it again. Although there was temptation. Trunks was smart, he had a brilliant mind, even if he didn't realize it. Mai sow the man beneath the suit, sensitive, caring and understanding. A man any woman would be proud to have, and do anything to keep. He was his mother s' child, very innovative. He would talk about how he planned on taking Capsule Corp. to new venues, medical, educational and beyond. If he were going to stay at it 's helm it would be under his terms.
"My mother thinks I shouldn't expand our product lines. She says we'll cornerstone the industry and eventually phase out"
"Well you could monopolize certain, sectors of medial and educations; your research staff has done extensive studies in robotics as limb replacement."
"You've been doing your homework. We'll be presenting that at the conference this weekend"
'I try to keep up"
"So have you had time to read about the advancements in robotic surgical procedures"?
"Yes" she said proudly.
"Are you hiding out in my office or something, sneaking in my files or talking to my assistant? You two sound just alike"
Mai nearly jumped out of her skin. She was talking too much.
"Come on, doesn't it feel good to have a woman as interested in your mind as well as your body" she made circles on his chest "and if I say so you have a beautiful body"
"I'm flattered in your interest. You should meet Mike. You two have a lot in common. Poor guy, so worried about my well being, probably hasn't had time to date. Know any single gals?"
Mai laughed faintly "if he's like you I'll be sure to only interview top quality candidates"
"That my gal, only the best"
The week went by so quickly. Mia was at home Thursday evening packing for her trip to the conference. Her suits, shoes and accessories all neatly packed in a suitcase she didn't know how she would lift.
"Honey, it's just a weekend"
'But we will be dinning with top executives. I want to be presentable"
"You know you two are too involved in this "gender change" thing" Jamie sat watching television not wanting nothing to do with them "Look at both of you. My sister ' doing the "Victor, Victoria" thing, desperately in love with her unsuspecting boss, and my man her pimp. I hope you don't burn bridges Mai. I'd hate to see you get hurt"
"I'm fine Jamie. I'm managing to juggle both sides. He's my boss Monday thru Friday and my lover on the weekends"
"But eventually he's going to find out. You've got to tell him"
"When I'm ready" Mai shouted
"But when?"
It was hard for her to imagine telling Trunks the truth; this was going to be a delicate operation. The more they dated the harder it would become trying to get out of the situation. He was attached to both Mai and Mike emotionally.
"I could just quit my job and disappear as Mike"
"But he's his friend. He's already lost his friends and family. You'd want to hurt him by having him live through one more loss?"
Her hands were ties. Either way, if Mike or Mai left the picture, Trunks would suffer the most.
"How's Cassy doing?" Mai asked changing the subject.
Neither Jamie nor Ty would say a word.
"Whit's wrong?" Mai asked.
"The doctors discovered something on her optical nerves, clusters of tumors they think. Momma won't let them operate. Cassy has been through enough in her little life"
"So how are they going to treat it?" Mai asked Jamie who suddenly didn't look quite like himself.
"Don't know. I had t find out that information purely by accident"
"When I get back, I'll talk to her and find out what need s to be done. Ok?"
'"It won't do any good, Momma shuts out everyone who tries to help"
"I'll find a way" she sat next to her brother "you need to have faith. I know you have it"
"It's just so hard watching her......" he gabbed his sister and hugged her, feeling his throat tighten up with sorrow "Is she going to die sis?"
"N..No" Mai began to tear up "she's a fighter, just like her dad"
Friday evening was pure Hell; everyone around was in a panic. For Mike this was a new experience. And his calmness was freaking out Trunks.
"You know your making me look bad" Trunks rumbled through his desk
"What?"
"You"
"What I do?" Mia asked curiously.
"Have a nervous breakdown for goodness sake. Throw something. Shout, fire someone hell, panic"
"For what" Mike sat calmly on the small sofa reading the itinerary for the weekend "Hey did you know we are the first speakers?"
"I hate you, you know?
"Look , just be confident. You know everything there is to know about these clients. You're Capsule Corp. number one in the world. everybody else is trying to be you"
"easy for you to say. Your reputation isn't on the line. If I make an utter fool of myself , I'll have you to blame"
"Me? what I do"
"you're freaking me out"
"Look we have until tomorrow morning to blow off some steam. Our flight leaves at 6; we'll arrive at 9. Plenty of time to eat drink and be merry"
"I think I'd feel better if Mai as around" Trunks sighed and flopped in his chair "I'm going to miss her"
"You not moving across the world, just a weekend apart"
"But it'll be an eternity"
"My poor love struck boss" Mai laugh eternally " my poor baby" she thought to herself "he's going to miss me"
"I won't have fun without her"
"If you don't' have a good time, she'll blame me and I am not having your girlfriend come down one me"
"But what if I have too much fun?"
Too much fun? What did he plan on doing together when they hung out? Bars? Strip clubs? Dancing? Picking up girls?
"Oh hell no!" Mai thought to herself, frowning up at the thought. They would be two guys in a new town for a conference. One guy, the cooperated giant, an easy mark for females. He'd be there working, all alone and missing his girlfriend. Women can sense those things. They attack when they smell fresh meat. She was going to have to keep a very close eye on him.
