Chapter 1. Ignorance is Bliss
Ryo sighed softly and opened his beautiful dark eyes, nuzzling his face against Dee's olive-toned chest in contentment as he shifted closer to the gorgeous raven-haired man. Last night's lovemaking had been so amazing. He loved that Dee could always make him feel so cherished and safe that he could just let himself go and give in to his wanton desires. Ryo loved being by Dee's side, waking up in Dee's arms, and he wouldn't have it any other way. The honey blond felt a slight movement as Dee's arms tightened around him and suddenly found himself being rolled over and pinned against the bed underneath Dee, gazing up into deep emerald green eyes.
“Morning, Ryo,” Dee grinned, his brilliant smile adorning his handsome face as he felt Ryo's legs spread apart so that he could settle himself between them. Their bare chests rested against each other, and Dee stroked his hands up and down Ryo's sides in gentle caresses that caused Ryo to sigh softly in pleasure.
“Mmm, this is nice,” Ryo murmured, arching into Dee's touch as a beautiful blush spread across his fair cheeks when Dee's hand ghosted teasingly across his abdomen.
“Do you know what would be even better?” Dee asked softly as he leaned down closer towards Ryo, his lips barely inches from Ryo's own.
“What?” Ryo whispered with a smile, his dark eyes shining in anticipation.
“This,” Dee breathed as he gently pressed his lips against Ryo's, tantalizingly extending his tongue to tease Ryo's bottom lip. Ryo closed his eyes and parted his lips, allowing Dee to deepen the kiss and moaning when Dee's hot tongue slid inside and brushed against his own. Dee consumed Ryo's willing mouth, tracing a sensuous path through the warm wetness as he took his time and thoroughly explored. Dee's velvety tongue continued to caress Ryo's, causing Ryo to moan louder and clench the bedsheets as his mind reeled from the pleasurable sensations inundating his body. Dee was such a good kisser!
Ryo could feel the passionate intensity of the kiss travel through him and it made his legs go weak. No one had ever kissed him the way Dee did, stirring such desire within him, and the shy blond was glad that he was lying down at the moment. He surely wouldn't be able to stand anytime soon.
Dee broke the heated kiss and gazed into Ryo's passion-darkened eyes. He loved that he could bring out this sensual side of his shy Ryo, and that Ryo was like this only for him. What he had with Ryo was special, and Dee knew that he would always treasure Ryo and the time they spent together.
“I love you, Dee,” Ryo whispered shyly as he brushed strands of Dee's silky ebony hair away from his gorgeous eyes before wrapping his arms around Dee's sinewy back and hugging him tightly against his body. Ryo always felt that he could drown within the depths of Dee's eyes, and today was no different.
“I love you too, Ryo,” Dee smiled as he returned the tender embrace. “I just want to lay like this and hold you forever. Let's spend the day in bed.”
“That sounds like a good idea, but first I have something for you,” Ryo said as he wriggled out from underneath Dee and leaned over to retrieve a small wrapped box from the nightstand. “Happy Anniversary, Dee,” Ryo said softly as he handed Dee his present. It had been one year ago today that Ryo and Dee had officially become a couple.
“Thanks, Ryo,” Dee replied as he reached under his pillow and placed a present in the palm of Ryo's hand. “This is for you.” Dee kissed Ryo softly upon the mouth before unwrapping his gift. Digging through sheets of tissue paper, he pulled out a long thin box that bore the name of a jeweler on it.
His eyes gleaming in anticipation, Dee opened it to reveal a thin white gold chain, twined in an intricately braided pattern. “Oh wow, Ryo…” Dee trailed off as he lifted the chain up and admired it. He had never received anything like this before from anyone else, and his heart skipped a beat. The orphan within him had finally found acceptance, loving someone who loved and cared for him deeply in return.
“Here, let me,” Ryo said shyly as he took the delicate chain and deftly fastened it around Dee's neck. “Do you like it?”
Dee ran his fingertips along the cool metal that rested against his skin. “I love it,” he said sincerely. “I'll never take it off.” The beautiful smile that adorned Ryo's handsome face was reward enough for Dee, and he knew that he had made the right choice in pursuing and remaining with Ryo. Not wanting to get too sentimental, he shifted closer to his lover and tapped the box that Ryo held. “Your turn, Ryo.”
Ryo carefully tore away the paper and gasped in surprise as he unveiled his gift from Dee. The small jewelry box was opened to display a simple white gold band, which Ryo lifted out and slid onto his ring finger. “Perfect fit,” he said softly as the shiny metal reflected the morning sunlight.
Dee gently removed the ring and leaned closer to Ryo. “Look inside,” he commanded gently as he wrapped one arm around Ryo's trim waist. Ryo examined the ring closer, noticing that small symbols were engraved along the smooth inside contours of the ring. Ryo blinked at Dee questioningly as he struggled to decipher the tiny script. “It says `Ryo and Dee' in Japanese,” Dee explained. “I know that you're still shy about everyone knowing that we're involved with each other, and our jobs are dangerous as well. This way, I can still remind you of how much I love you, only it'll be our little secret.”
Ryo's obsidian gaze intently searched Dee's eyes, deeply touched by the amount of thought that had gone into choosing his present. “Dee, I don't know what to say. This means so much to me,” Ryo whispered as Dee slid the ring back onto his finger and held his hand.
“I also got us reservations at that nice restaurant that we've always wanted to go to,” Dee continued as he hugged Ryo close, resting his chin on Ryo's shoulder. “Although they're for one week from now.”
Ryo's eyes widened in surprise. “You mean the Blue Moon? How did you manage that? It's very exclusive.” The restaurant had earned its name accordingly, as most people who ate there only could afford it once in a blue moon.
“Nothing is too good for you, Ryo,” Dee said sincerely. “I heard the food is out of this world, although we'll have to rent tuxedoes to dine there. It's a pretty fancy place.”
“Wow, that doesn't even compare to what I got for your other gift,” Ryo remarked regretfully. “You are too much, Dee.”
“Other gift?” Dee asked with a mischievous smile as he turned Ryo to face him, Ryo's hands now playing lightly over Dee's broad chest.
“Well, I was going to save it for tonight, but…” Ryo trailed off, a faint blush staining his fair cheeks as he suddenly buried his face against Dee's neck.
“C'mon, Ryo, tell me what it is. Did you get me something naughty?” Dee asked teasingly as he tilted Ryo's chin up so that Ryo was forced to look at him. He smiled wickedly when Ryo's blush deepened. Dee's hand dove underneath the tissue paper and reached into the bottom of the bag, resurfacing with a tube of mint chocolate chip-flavored massage lotion. “When's Bikky coming back?” Dee asked, trying to hide the excitement in his voice as his eyes roved over Ryo's perfect body.
“Not until later this afternoon,” Ryo replied coyly.
“Perfect,” Dee said huskily as he popped the top of the edible lotion and smiled at Ryo, a devious gleam sparkling in his green eyes. “I can ravish you senseless until he returns.”

“Mr. David Ventresca, after reviewing your file and determining that you have shown exemplary behavior these last few months, I have decided to let you out early on good behavior,” the judge proclaimed as he tapped his gavel on the desk, signaling for the hearing to be adjourned. The 28 year old man standing before him smiled widely, his light blue eyes reflecting his delight as he ran a hand through strands of his shoulder-length brown hair and exited the courtroom.
David reached into his leather jacket pocket to search for a lighter and lit up a cigarette as he looked around the busy streets of the city, slowly making his way to the black limousine that was stationed at the street corner as he contemplated his current situation. He pulled his coat tighter against his tall, lithe frame as a cool breeze ruffled his hair. He was free at last. Free to once again take charge of the powerful empire that he had built. Free to take back what was rightfully his.
“Hello, James,” he cordially greeted the man who held the door open for him, as if he had not just spent the last five years in prison. Cultured and educated, the reclusive businessman flashed a charismatic smile at his loyal servant who had acted as the head of the company in his absence.
“Hello, sir,” James replied formally as he closed the door and walked to the driver's side of the car, starting the engine and heading towards David's mansion. “There are some things of which you should be made aware. A lot has changed since you have been in prison,” he said, straightforward and to the point.
“Do tell,” David said nonchalantly as he unlocked the limo's minibar and poured himself a drink, gazing out the tinted windows as the busy scenery of New York eventually led into the more remote area in which he resided.
“After you were sentenced, your company was dismantled after an extensive investigation by the local police. Apparently they did not appreciate your extensive computer hacking skills that added generous revenue to company profits,” James said wryly.
“Sonofa… so you mean to tell me that I have nothing left from the millions that I had before?” David asked angrily, his cool demeanor shattered. “After all I sacrificed to become what I am today… I'm ruined! It took me years to amass that wealth.”
“Well, you are not entirely at a loss. You do have the profits from the last five years that reside in your Swiss bank account, as you have instructed. The assets encompass a sizable amount, enough to get you on your feet again until you are able to resume control of the business,” James said in an attempt to alleviate David's anger. “You still have the allegiance of your contacts as well. They have viewed your incarceration as a temporary setback, but are still willing to undertake business ventures with you.”
“Hmm,” David mused contemplatively as he swirled the alcohol in his glass and took a sip to calm his nerves. “That's not good enough. I want revenge for the inconvenience that prison has caused me. This turn of events will set me back substantially in time and money from achieving my goals. I'm assuming you have news of the officer who headed the investigation against me?”
“Yes, as you wished. He has now been promoted to a detective and works for the Criminal Investigations Unit at the NYPD's 27th precinct. His name is Dee Laytner.”
David smiled, recalling the distinctive raven hair and flashing emerald eyes of the brash young officer that he had deemed a formidable rival so long ago. Now he had a name to place to the face that he had vowed to never forget. “Find out more about this Detective Laytner. I want to know everything about him - where he lives, what he likes, the places he frequents, and what he values most in life. This could be very interesting. I want to destroy his career and bring him down until he has nothing left. I'll make him pay. I'm going to take his life away from him like he did to me.”
“Are you going to kill him?” James queried, reaching for the phone stationed next to the driver's seat.
“No; that would be too easy,” David said with a malicious smile playing over his pursed lips as he appraised his reflection in the tinted windows. “I'm going to become him.”
