Chapter 3. Mistaken Identity
“Oh God, Ryo,” Dee panted as he pounded Ryo's sinuous body against the sheets, his partner's smooth flesh creating a delicious heated friction against his skin as the raven-haired man pressed further into the enticingly hot body writhing underneath him and ran his fingertips across the contours of Ryo's strong arms. Ryo's beautiful dark eyes were closed and his head was thrown back, his bruised lips parting as a long, low moan escaped from his throat and strands of his honey blond hair clung to his deeply flushed cheeks. Glistening sweat adorned his body as he shuddered and began to tremble, lost in pure ecstasy as Dee leaned down and captured his mouth in a deep, heated kiss and brought his hand down between their joined bodies to stroke Ryo's aching length as he continued to thrust into him.
Ryo's dark eyes flew open as Dee broke the steamy kiss, his senses lost in pleasure and passion, as he gazed imploringly at the man above him. He was excruciatingly hard and wanted, needed, Dee to bring him the release that he craved. “Dee,” Ryo whimpered breathlessly as he clutched desperately onto Dee's muscular shoulders, pulling Dee's supple body further against his as he buried his face against Dee's neck and breathed in deeply. “Dee, please…”
Dee angled his muscular body and thrust deeply into Ryo, hitting his sensitive prostate with great force. Ryo thrashed and screamed in uninhibited pleasure as he dug his nails into Dee's back and came explosively against their bellies, his hot, hard flesh pressing into Dee as he drenched their bodies with his release, his body throbbing in pulsing waves of pleasure as his hooded passion-darkened eyes locked onto Dee's.
Dee momentarily closed his emerald eyes, reveling in the feeling of being totally consumed and wrapped up in his beautiful Ryo. He gazed into Ryo's expressive eyes and felt the honey blond's powerful muscles clenching and releasing in spasms around his painfully swollen cock. Dee leaned down and claimed Ryo's mouth, stealing the very breath that escaped Ryo's lips as he tasted his heavenly lover, hungrily thrusting his tongue inside as it wrapped around Ryo's. He was so close to attaining euphoria…
A shrill ringing sound caused Dee to gasp as he was brought back into reality. He sat up quickly, his heart pounding in his chest, and struggled to open his deep green eyes as he blindly groped for the phone on the endtable next to the couch. His body was drenched in sweat, his damp shirt clinging to every contour of his sleekly muscular frame, as he pushed strands of his tousled raven hair out of his sleep-laden eyes. Dee muttered a stream of vengeful curses at the unknown caller as images of the erotic dream of him and Ryo fucking came flooding back to him and only seemed to fuel the arousal throbbing between his legs.
“Laytner here,” he growled into the phone as he shifted uncomfortably underneath the blanket.
“Well, so nice of you to finally answer,” Commissioner Berkley Rose's grating voice came over the line. “I was beginning to think that you two had forgotten that you had to work today.”
“What the hell do you want?” Dee questioned irritably, his anger causing the pleasant images of the dream to dissipate as he lit a cigarette to calm his nerves. “Ryo and I don't start work until second shift today.” He kept his voice down, not wanting to wake his partner, who was still asleep in the bedroom. Rose had such bad timing. If only he could have waited a few more minutes…
“Well, I'm so sorry to have to inform you that one of you will have to come in early,” Rose said sarcastically. “But there is some paperwork for one of your cases that absolutely must be completed by this afternoon. It's the multiple rape case that is ready to go to trial, and the DA's office wants to look over all of the evidence to make sure that we've got an airtight testimony. It's very important that everything is in order so that we can put this monster behind bars. Since you tend to be lacking in the organizational department, I'd like to speak with Ryo about finishing up the paperwork,” Rose purred smoothly.
“Not a chance,” Dee said warningly. Like I'd really let him stay in a room alone with you, you sly fox. “Ryo's still asleep and he's had a long night. He could use a break. I'll come in and wrap up the case. You can talk to Ryo about the rest of the details when he comes in for his scheduled shift if you need to clarify anything.”
“Very well,” the Commissioner said brusquely. Damn, he thwarted my chance to be alone with sweet, temptingly naïve Ryo once again. “I'll see you in half an hour, Detective. The files will be on your desk. Don't be late.”
“I'll be there,” Dee promised through gritted teeth before hanging up the phone and sighing. Maybe by showing responsibility and taking some initiative concerning the paperwork, he could appease Ryo's anger from the night before. Dee hated when they were angry or upset with each other, and just wanted to work things out with Ryo as soon as possible. He loved Ryo so much despite the man's stubbornness, and he couldn't for the life of him figure out what exactly he had done wrong the other day.
Dee stretched, fully awake now, and made his way silently into their bedroom to use the master bathroom for a shower. Ryo was still sleeping, his soft honey hair framing his handsome face as his bare chest rose and fell with each contented breath that he took. Ryo shifted in the bed and Dee smiled as he caught sight of the ring that adorned Ryo's finger glinting in the morning sunlight. That was a good sign. The shy blond hadn't been mad enough to remove the ring after their misunderstanding. Dee would let Ryo sleep now, and talk to him at the station on their lunch hour. Maybe then, he could figure out the cause of the confusion and frustration that had surfaced in their relationship. Dee ran a hand through his thick raven hair and slipped into the shower, quietly closing the door behind him.
Ryo's expressive dark eyes fluttered open at the sound. He rolled over in bed, glancing at the bathroom door as he bit his lower lip nervously and pulled the covers up around his sleek frame. He really wanted to talk with Dee, but he was still hurt from last night and did not want to unfairly accuse Dee of - what, actually? Ryo had some theories, but they were just unsubstantiated suspicions as of yet. After he had had some time to cool down and sort out his feelings, the honey blond would broach the topic to Dee over dinner. For now, he would just take it one step at a time and see how things went at the precinct. He would be able to talk to the Chief or the Commissioner then and get everything straightened out from their impartial views.
Ryo closed his eyes quickly and relaxed against his pillow as he heard the bathroom door open. He could hear Dee quietly getting dressed, and a small smile subconsciously flitted across his countenance as Dee moved closer to him. Try as he might, Ryo found that he could never stay mad at his gorgeous partner for long.
Dee leaned over Ryo, casting a shadow across his fair features, as he placed a hastily scrawled note on their bedside table and kissed Ryo softly upon his pliant lips before grabbing his coat and leaving the apartment.
`Ryo - had to go to the station early. See you there later. Love, Dee.' Ryo read the note with a smile after Dee had departed and got up to make breakfast for Bikky and himself, pulling a robe on over his pajama bottoms. Tonight, he thought confidently, they would talk… and then hopefully make up, he amended with a shy smile and a deep blush.

“Laytner, I just can't believe that you can be so disorganized,” Rose sighed in exasperation as he shuffled through the files on Dee's perpetually messy desk. “I can't find the victim's hospital records with the DNA evidence that we need.”
“Yeah well, it's all a matter of opinion,” Dee muttered irritably, too tired to argue with Rose any more. They had been at each other for most of the day, the pressure of the case heightening the intensity of their already competitive natures. “They should be there somewhere. I'll go look for a copy of the files in the records room if you still can't find them. Trust me, you'll have what you need for the higher ups.” I am perfectly capable of doing my job, Dee thought as he determinedly shuffled through a drawer in Ryo's desk. The files had to be there somewhere; the question was, where. Maybe Ryo would know. “I'll ask Ryo if he knows anything about them when he comes in,” Dee offered, sitting back in his chair and running his hands through his ebony hair.
“Fine; I'll be in my office. Bring them to me there,” Rose sighed in resignation. The tall blonde gathered up the thick stack of paperwork and strode out of Dee and Ryo's office, his mind whirling through a checklist of all of the different documents that they would need to prepare for the case.
Dee nodded wearily, reluctantly trudging down to the file room to subject himself to long hours of searching in order to find what they needed to solidify the case. It was going to be a long day.

David strode confidently into the 27th precinct, flashing a coy smile at the receptionist working the front desk, his handsome features both inviting and unassuming at the same time. He effortlessly navigated his way through the various corridors as he made his way up to the fourth floor. “Right on time,” he murmured satisfactorily as he glanced at his watch before pushing open the office door that read Laytner/MacLean.
David stopped in his tracks at the vision of the man standing in front of him. Ryo was impeccably dressed in a pair of black dress pants and an olive-green button-down oxford shirt, his suit jacket draped over the back of his chair. Gorgeous dark eyes fleetingly met his as the door to the office closed behind him, Ryo glancing away as he concentrated on his phone conversation.
Ryo lowered his eyes demurely and turned away, blushing under the intensity of the raven-haired man's stare. He was glad that he had a temporary distraction, even if it was the Commissioner calling about a missing case file. Dee's gaze was almost predatory, openly roving over and assessing Ryo's sleekly muscular frame as if blatantly undressing him with his eyes. Ryo glanced up at Dee again, nervously twisting the phone cord in his hand, but found that he could not meet his gaze. An involuntary shiver ran through the honey blond's body as he averted his eyes from the chilling green ones belonging to the man in front of him.
“Ryo,” David whispered huskily as Ryo finished his conversation and put the phone down with an unsteady hand. He moved closer to the dark-eyed honey blond, placing his hands against the desk on either side of Ryo's waist and effectively trapping him, Ryo's back pressed against the desk as he gave an involuntary shiver.
Why did Ryo feel as if something was wrong? Dee's stance seemed almost threatening, his physical presence seeming to intimidate Ryo in a way that he had never felt before. Maybe Dee was angry about last night. Although Ryo had wanted to wait until after work to confront Dee, it seemed like his partner had no intentions of waiting until they were out of the office. “Dee, please talk to me,” Ryo spoke softly, hesitantly. “Are we okay after last night?” He lifted his beautiful dark eyes up to meet striking green ones.
David smiled, knowing the pain that the shy detective must surely be going through at having to broach the delicate topic of conversation. He wanted to exploit Ryo's feelings of uncertainty and mistrust to their fullest. “It depends. How are you going to make it up to me?” he purred suggestively, his lips mere inches away from Ryo's trembling lower lip as he brushed a strand of honey hair that obscured Ryo's eyes away from his face.
Ryo's eyes narrowed, and he angrily pushed Dee's hand away, the insignificant strength of the force belying his true feelings. “Are you implying that what happened last night was my fault?” Ryo asked, his voice rising as he moved away from Dee and crossed his arms across his chest in frustration. “Dee, why can't you be honest about where you really were yesterday and why you ordered that package? I want to work through this. Why can't you seem to understand that this game you're playing by keeping me in the dark is getting you nowhere? I thought that you respected me more than this.”
David smiled, loving the way Ryo's face was flushing in exasperation as the gorgeous man stared at him and waited on edge for an answer. “Oh, I do respect you… in bed. I respect your firm body and your tight ass,” David said snidely, his voice lowering dangerously as he snaked his arms around Ryo's waist and cupped Ryo's ass hard, squeezing it roughly and causing the shorter detective to gasp in surprise.
Ryo blushed furiously as he struggled within the confining grip, twisting to get away. He reached for a file on the desk behind him and pushed it against the taller man's chest. Something was really wrong with Dee. Dee had never been so crude or so physically threatening before. Was Dee that upset with him about the lack of affection outside of their bedroom? Maybe the issue ran deeper than Ryo had initially thought. “D-Dee!” Ryo faltered, hurt and upset. “I-I told you that I need more time with our relationship. You said that you understood. Please, let's just talk about this at home. We have work to do.”
Seeing the confusion present within Ryo's dark depths, David reluctantly let him out of his grip and took the file that Ryo had thrust at him. He sat down at Dee's desk, booting up the computer. That was enough psychological manipulation for today. He was pleased to see that the shy Ryo had a fire to him, which would make this all the more fun. Having effectively ensured that Ryo would no longer be talking to him for today, he began to search through the police database for the collateral that he needed to tarnish Dee's career and take him down. Smiling in satisfaction, he began to type busily as he stared intently at the computer screen, altering case files in which Dee had been the primary investigator on.
Ryo stood frozen in shock for a moment before sitting down somewhat gingerly in his chair and gathering some files. First Dee had made the events from last night out to be his fault, and now he was sitting at his desk, diligently doing his work without a single complaint. Not to mention that he had been acting blatantly predatory towards Ryo, something that they had previously discussed needed to be toned down at the office. Maybe this had something to do with the long hours that Dee had spent with the Commissioner earlier this morning. The tall blonde always cracked down on Dee's apparent lack of discipline in the workplace while simultaneously praising his efficient, handsome, by-the-book partner. No matter how much Ryo reassured him otherwise, Dee still felt somewhat threatened that Rose would still try something on Ryo.
Ryo sighed wearily. His partner was a mystery. Something was going on with Dee, and he was now determined more than ever to find out what. David sat up straighter in his chair and adjusted his tie around his neck. The honey blond subconsciously followed the motion, noticing that Dee's attire for the day was surprisingly professional. In fact, maybe it was a bit too professional. A silver tie accentuated an expensive button-down black dress shirt that looked as if it cost more than Ryo's entire wardrobe. Ryo pushed it to the back of his mind. Dee did look good wearing it, and maybe it was one of the things that the Commissioner had talked to Dee about concerning his lack of professionalism. Or perhaps, Dee was working undercover again. Ryo fumed silently. It seemed as if he would have to try a different tactic in order to get Dee to fill him in.
Oh well. Not much could be done in their current circumstances. Glancing up to see Dee deep in concentration as he shredded official papers and documents, Ryo narrowed his dark eyes in suspicion. “Dee, what are you doing?” he inquired.
David's hands froze and he glanced up to look into obsidian pools before smiling broadly. “Just cleaning up around here, getting rid of old duplicate copies of cases that have already been filed. It'll make it easier to work if there's less of a mess,” he said practically, as if he was used to straightening up his desk everyday.
“Oh,” Ryo murmured, almost apologetically. Maybe Dee was just trying to show that he was sorry for how he had acted earlier by picking up some extra slack. He flushed a deep red, embarrassed that he had questioned Dee's actions like he was a rookie. He really should give his partner more credit; Dee was actually quite responsible when he was working on a case, despite his seemingly carefree attitude. “Well, when you're done can you please take this case file to Commissioner Rose? It's the one that you've been looking for all day, and he'll be glad to have it. He talked to me on the phone earlier about it. It's very important that he receives it.”
David flashed a predatory smile at Ryo, his green eyes gleaming as he saved his work and turned off the computer. He had gotten what he came for, for now at least. Walking over to the honey-blond's desk, he casually brushed his fingertips across Ryo's hand, tracing his finger around Ryo's ring possessively before taking the file. “Oh, I'll make sure he gets it,” he said suggestively, loving the submissive blush that burned upon Ryo's handsome features from the intensity burning within his emerald gaze. The man really did have a body to die for. David wondered just how far down Ryo's beautiful blush extended. He couldn't wait to find out.
David winked reassuringly at Ryo, exiting the precinct still holding the file. He tossed it nonchalantly into a dumpster as he made his way towards his car, James already standing on the sidewalk and holding the back door open for him. Dee Laytner was a lucky man, but his luck was about to change. He was going to destroy the man. First his career and then his partner, David was going to take it all. And then Dee would know what it was like to lose everything.
