Chapter Four: Night Sky
Bikky and Ryo entered the hunter's headquarters, Bikky looking a little worse for wear. Berkley lifted an eyebrow, but that was all he said for Bikky's appearance.
"That damn Dee!! He keeps getting out of our clutches!" Bikky snarled as he sat at his desk. Carol came over and sat on his desk, she knew one way to cheer Bikky up.
"Come on Bikky. Why don't you relax by going out to dinner with me tonight," Carol said in a husky tone. Her light blonde hair surrounding her face as she leaned closer to Bikky.
Bikky inhaled Carol's dark rose scent, right as the door banged open to reveal a very pissed off Ryo.
"That Berkley!! Agh!! Why doesn't he give this assignment to anyone else?" Ryo growled as he stomped over to his desk, completely ignoring the intimate scene between Bikky and Carol. Bikky lifted his eyebrow at Carol, who simply shrugged.
"What did Berkley do this time Ryo?" Bikky asked in a calm voice. It was the only way to deal with the older man, you had to speak calmly to him, or you'd be dead.
"He wants us to go after Dee again. For some reason, he's intent on making us deal with him. I'm guessing no one else is brave enough to." Ryo pushed a hand through his light hair impatiently as he argued with himself in his mind. It was then that Carol decided to speak up.
"Ano, Ryo-san? No one else has ever come back alive from facing Dee. At least, that's what the records show. You two are the only ones who have made it back alive, so Berkley must think this is special or something." She swung her light haired braid over her shoulder as she turned to Bikky, who in turn, nodded his agreement. He had read over those files.
"Ryo, Dee's a pretty powerful vampire. I don't see why he hasn't killed me yet. Maybe it's because of you that I'm still alive. After all, he seems attracted to you enough," Bikky teased. Ryo's eyes snapped up to Bikky's, the younger man felt a shiver of apprehension run through his body at the promise of death in Ryo's eyes. The half Japanese man stood up, grabbed his coat, and made his way to the door. "Where are you going?"
"To find someone who can help me. Don't follow me Bikky, or you could get hurt," Ryo warned. With that, the elder hunter slammed the door and stormed out of the headquarters. Bikky and Carol looked at each other with similar expressions of concern for the half Japanese hunter.
"So, you've appeared have you Ryo? What can I do for you this time?" purred a female voice. Ryo sighed as he saw the woman exit the shadows. He hated using this informant, as she was unpredictable. "Hmm, I think I can guess. Let me see." She motioned for him to sit, her light hair flowing slightly down her back. *A/N: Can you guess who this is yet? No? Okay…* Ryo sat down in the chair facing her as she brought out a crystal globe. It lit up as soon as it was in her hand.
"I see now. You are after the ancient. I pity you then hunter. Dee's temper is not something to mess with. Better pray you never piss him off. But, it appears as if he's attracted to you. Now isn't that interesting? But what I find the most alluring in this situation, is the fact that you're attracted to him as well." The mysterious woman chuckled at this realization which had a slight blush staining the light haired hunter's cheeks.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ *~*~*
"Dee, how good of you to come and see me," an older woman said happily. Dee sat down next to the overly white-sheeted hospital bed. Dee smiled affectionately at the older woman he had grown so close to. Her hand reached out to lightly touch his cheek, she never feared what he was, she only gave him acceptance.
"Penguin," Dee said smiling a bit. The older woman's eyes narrowed as some life came back into her. Her hand moved from his cheek to his ear, which she pinched and twisted. Dee gave a startled cry at the pain that went through his ear. Penguin released his ear and the dark haired vampire gave her a glare as he rubbed his still throbbing ear.
"So, why did you come see an old woman such as myself?" she asked softly. Dee simply shook his head.
"I came because I wanted to see you. That is all there is to it," Dee murmured. He wished that he could have Penguin at her own home, but she was still recovering from some surgery. The dark haired vampire stood up to go stand by the window as Penguin fell asleep. He noticed someone standing at the bottom steps of the hospital, someone who looked awfully familiar. He cursed as he realized who it was.
`Why of all people did it have to be him?' Dee felt the attraction between them, he knew exactly what he wanted. The ancient vampire wasn't so sure about the hunter's feelings. Dee left after kissing the Penguin's forehead. He looked over his shoulder one more time before he left. A nurse came and got the Penguin for her therapy, unbeknownst to Dee. Dee had just left the hospital when a sudden explosion caused him to snap around.
His eyes widened as he recognized the room, it was Penguin's room. A sudden movement to his left caught his attention, all he saw was a blur of light colored hair. The vampire felt his temper snap as he realized what had happened.
`That bastard! He was only playing with me! Trying to find my weakness! And when he did, he decided he would use it against me. But I guess he got too impatient and didn't check to see if I was still in there. That hunter, Ryo, will pay for this!' The ancient took off into the forest, following Ryo's scent trail.
Ryo had heard the slight explosion and wondered about it. He had just stood up to go inspect it, when a force slammed him against a tree. The hunter's head snapped back and slammed against the trunk, causing him to see bright splashes of light behind his closed eyelids. When his eyes opened, they were met with green eyes, splashed with red from anger.
`It's Dee! But what is he so angry for? Could it have been that explosion?' Ryo thought. That was when Ryo felt the hand tightening on his throat. His black eyes widened in slight fear as he realized the vampire's temper had snapped for some reason. `Diana did warn me.' *Sorry about my spelling minna*
"I should just let you die for what you did to her. But I've got a better idea. Meet me here tonight at midnight, I'll gladly turn myself over. Bring your little friend too. But first." Ryo soon felt his mouth crushed beneath Dee's as the vampire's tongue worked its way into his mouth. Ryo groaned at the heat it envoked within his body, even with the hand clasped at his throat.
Dee felt the groan vibrate against his own body, causing his arousal to grow steadily. His hand relaxed on the hunter's throat, working its way the younger man's front. *don't ya just love it when attraction gets in the way?* Ryo soon felt a searing touch through his pants, he felt fingers fumbling for the snap on his jeans, when a familiar voice rang out through the forest.
"RYO!? Ryo! Where are you?" Soon Ryo's partner came through the woods. He saw Dee standing extremely close to Ryo. "Hey!! Get away from Ryo you perverted freak!" Bikky rushed towards Dee, only to have Dee's hand on his head stopping him. Bikky effectively kicked him in the shin, causing Dee to yelp in pain. He released his hold on the top of Bikky's head, letting Bikky get close enough to get in a few swipes.
"Ano, maybe you two should give it a rest?" Both turned to glare at Ryo, who simply backed off to let them fight.
"How dare you put your dirty blood sucking paws on my partner!" Dee felt a sharp pain in his side as Bikky punched him.
"Just stay out of this little boy. Go play with someone your own age." Bikky felt a fist connect with his stomach. This kept on for about twenty minutes before both men noticed Ryo was gone.
"Ryo!? Ryo!?" Bikky looked all over for the other hunter, but couldn't seem to find him. Dee lightly sniffed the air and found Ryo's trail. Bikky had no choice but to follow Dee, he hated it, but he was worried about his partner. Dee felt his temper start to rise again as visions of the hospital room burning filled his mind.
`He's probably gone back to finish the job. I'll take off here and wait for him to come to me. He knows what he's supposed to do. Then I'll put my plan into action.' Bikky's eyes widened as Dee seemingly disappeared from in front of him, allowing him to find Ryo on his own.
Bikky found Ryo sitting at the edge of the fountain surrounded by children. The blonde man let out a sigh of the long suffering, Ryo had always been like this. He had always been good with children, practically raised Bikky himself. Ryo looked up and saw Bikky, he had a mysterious look in his eyes, but it was quickly gone so Bikky thought he must've imagined the concerned look in Ryo's eyes.
"Sir, we've got a place where we can nail Dee," Ryo said to Berkley. Berkley was listening, he wanted to know what Ryo had up his sleeve. "You'll see sir. You'll see." With that, the other man turned and left the room. Ryo heard the curses from behind the closed door, and smirked to himself. Berkley deserved to wait in suspense, after putting them on this case in the first place. Bikky looked up from his paperwork to see Ryo walk into the office.
"What did Berkley have to say?" Bikky asked. Ryo simply opened the door and the younger man could hear the curses. Bikky kept his laugh under control as he turned back to his paperwork involving a sloppy vampire murder. Done by someone else in the department, who had also failed to return.
"I'm going back to that park tonight at midnight Bikky. Do not follow me. Do you understand me? I do not want you to follow me." Bikky was startled from his paperwork at the viciousness in his partner/father's voice. He looked up to meet black eyes, glittering with determination. Bikky nodded, he never went against Ryo when he was like this.
`And I used to think vampires were scary! That was before Ryo went ballastic on me that one time I made a mistake!' Bikky thought grimacing at the memory. Ryo sat down to do some of his paperwork, he didn't notice Carol coming in to get Bikky so they could go have their dinner.
Ryo finally looked up at the clock, it was about eleven thirty. It would take Ryo about ten minutes to make it over to the hospital. He gathered his cloak up as well as his gun before he left. He knew he'd have to kill Dee sooner or later. `You're attracted to him as well.' Ryo shook his head at the memory, he did not need that right then.
Ryo made it to the park at eleven fifty-five. He leaned against a tree as he waited for Dee to arrive. Ryo felt an odd shiver go down his spine, Dee had arrived. Ryo found himself grabbed by his shirt front, and shoved to the ground. A heavy weight pressed him to the ground, effectively pinning his arms beneath him.
"You honestly didn't think I'd know did you? That you were the one who blew up her hospital room? If you did, you are definitely stupid. I should kill you, but I've got a better idea." Ryo swallowed, he didn't understand what Dee was growling about.
"What the hell are you talking about vampire? I didn't even know a hospital room had gotten blown up," Ryo snapped. He felt a hand snake around his throat and squeeze. He looked up to see Dee's eyes violently red as his temper completely snapped.
"I'm not going to kill you hunter. I'll do one better." The vampire leaned down with his fangs lengthening. The hunter felt the fangs sink into his skin, but he was confident. Hunter's blood was poisonous to vampires, but that still didn't stop the burning sensation that filled him from having his blood drained.
Ryo felt a lightheadedness come over him, shouldn't the vampire be dead by now? His blood should have killed him off. The hunter went limp as the blood was drained from his body. When the younger man was almost at the point of passing out, Dee pulled back. He licked his lips, but there was no other signs that he had sucked most of the blood out of the man.
It was then that Dee ripped his own skin, letting the blood drip down. He pressed it to Ryo's mouth, who was struggling as violently as he could at this point. Ryo tried to avoid the blood by moving his head side to side, but Dee ruthlessly kept his wrist pressed to the man's mouth. Ryo felt something go down his throat, he stilled as an intense pain filled his entire body. Dee grinned as the man cried out. He got up, kicked the other man, and grinned down at him with a ruthless smile.
"Let's see how you like being a vampire. That's the best revenge I could ever give you for killing her." With that, the black haired vampire disappeared in the shadows.
Ryo's body felt like it was on fire. His breath was coming in ragged gasps, his skin was crawling and burning, he couldn't get his limbs to function right. His body arched up as Ryo felt his lungs stop working. He turned his eyes to see Bikky and Carol come rushing down the path.
"Oh God! RYO!" Carol cried as she saw Ryo's body lying there. Bikky felt the sadness and hatred well up within him. He didn't want to lose Ryo, Ryo was the father that raised Bikky, after the young man's real father had been killed. Carol felt the tears rolling down her eyes, she was staring straight at Ryo, which was why she noticed the movement. "Bikky! Bikky! I think he's still alive!"
Bikky rushed over to his mentor as he pressed two of his fingers against the man's throat. He felt a faint pulse, but it was growing weaker and weaker. It was then, that the other two noticed the blood on the other side of Ryo's neck. Bikky felt a rush of hatred sweep through his body. He would get that damn vampire back if it was the last thing he did.
"Bikky…Run away! Run away now!" Bikky turned to Ryo as he saw Ryo's eyes changing. Carol's own eyes widened as she realized that Ryo had been turned. She grabbed Bikky's arm as she hauled him away. They did not need to be next to a newly turned vampire. They would surely die if that happened.
Ryo felt a burning sensation in his throat, it was as if he hadn't drank anything in centuries. He sat up slowly, his limbs feeling like dead weight. The hunter-now-vampire used the tree to help him stand. He made his way over to the fountain and drank. His throat felt soothed, but Ryo knew what his hunger really wanted. It wanted blood, but he refused to give in to the carnal thoughts racing through his mind.

Dee went to the hospital the next day to see if there was anything left of the Penguin. A nurse stopped him as Dee went near the explosion site.
"Mr. Latyner? We had to move her since her room was destroyed. This way please." Dee was dumbfounded, she was still alive? She hadn't died? Then, that would mean.
"Dee! How wonderful to see you! Can you believe someone tried to blow up my room? I mean, who would do that?"
That he had just turned the man he was slowly falling in love with, into a vampire.
