Chapter Three
Here For You

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

I'm looking at you old friend of mine
There's no use pretending that everything's fine
Now don't be so brave, don't be so proud
I want you to know that I'm here for you now
I can see your hurting and its hurting me
It doesn't have to be this way

If you'd let me hold you, closer
(somebody gonna hold your head up
somebody gonna show you the light)
Let me know you

(somebody gonna hold your head up
Somebody gonna treat you right)
Let me show you the way
(Somebody gonna hold your head up
Somebody gonna show you the love)

I'm feeling for you, you're feeling so much
When this heart is big enough for the both of us
I'll give you my love if you give me your pain
And hold it inside of me 'til you're stronger again
Well I hate seeing you so far away
When not a word can say enough

Ryo sat there crying for several long minutes until he realized that Dee was waiting for him and was most likely climbing the walls by now. Slowly getting out of the car, he headed back to the apartment building. He found himself taking a deep breath before walking inside happy to find Dee still sitting there with his head pointed up in the air and singing to himself. It wasn't until he heard what he was singing that caused Ryo to burst into laughter. Dee was singing an old Stevie Wonder song while moving his head around and from side to side. "I just called to say I love you... I just called to say how much I care... I just called to say I love you... and I mean it from the bottom of my heart..." Dee's sweet voice filled the lobby.

"Okay who are you and what have you done with my Dee?" Ryo walked up to him and sat beside him.

As hard as things were lately, Dee always managed to do something that would bring his smile back. Laying his head on Dee's shoulder, Ryo sighed softly as Dee continued singing and soon Ryo found himself softly singing along. As the last note faded into the lobby Ryo found him self still laughing softly.

"Dee you're certifiable!"

"Yeah well so commit me then." Dee grinned and then shrugged his shoulders. "It felt like people were staring so I gave them a reason to." Ryo patted Dee's cheek.

"Koi the only person in the lobby is Mr. Jenkins from 2B but I'm sure that he enjoyed the show." Ryo was still grinning, the moment of good humor and laughter soothing the hurt of earlier. "Are you ready to go upstairs?"

"Yeah I am." Dee said still smiling. "Ryo...?"

"Hai?"

"Kiss me first... Please?" Dee requested and Ryo couldn't help but glance around the lobby, despite knowing that Mr. Jenkins had turned his back to them.

Ryo shyly leaned in and kissed Dee softly. Dee's lips molded to Ryo's, his hand finding Ryo's cheek and cupping it gently until Ryo pulled away. "How was that?"

"Well... On the passion scale I would give it a four but technique was at least an 8."

"Only an eight?"

"Well you didn't use your tongue."

"Dee!" Ryo laughed while still blushing.

"I fully expect a proper kiss once we get into the apartment." Dee snickered. It was obvious that Ryo still had trouble dealing with public displays of affection and that was something he would have to definitely work on with him.

"Now that I can do." Ryo helped Dee up and headed for the small elevator that had been only installed a few months ago to bring the building up to code. Once inside of it and with the doors closing, Dee turned and managed to pin Ryo against the wall despite his lack of sight.

"I changed my mind. I want that proper kiss now or I hit the stop button." Dee grinned.

"you have to find it first." Ryo responded with a chuckle and then gasped softly when Dee pressed against him. "D-Dee..." His neck was suddenly being devoured with a hunger that only Dee could possess. "D-Dee!""What?" Dee asked as he kissed his way down the side of Ryo's neck. "Mmm you taste so good!"

"W-We're at our floor." Ryo panted but still managed to slide down and then duck under Dee's arm. "Let's get you inside before you do some else that's totally crazy."

"But I didn't get my kiss yet!" Dee pouted and Ryo merely groaned as he unlocked the door and guided Dee inside. "Bonsai baby!" Dee shouted and once again Ryo found himself pinned against a wall.

"Dee!" Ryo protested feebly as Dee's hands slid over his chest, his lips carefully seeking over his neck and jaw line until he found Ryo's mouth and plundered it.

Ryo instinctively tried to make a sound of protest but it came out as a soft moan instead as he buried his hands in Dee's hair, kissing him back with equal passion. Dee's hands slid down Ryo's torso, yanking out his shirt and sliding his hands underneath to stroke his bare flesh. Ryo shivered and then froze as he heard the door click open. Frantically he tried to push Dee away before being caught.

"God! Get your mitts off of him you pervert!" Bikky growled as he entered with Cal on his heels. Dee released Ryo's mouth and slid his hands out from under Ryo's shirt, his face red with anger.

"Shut up brat."

"Just because you're staying here doesn't give you the right to go after Ryo!" Bikky advanced on him but Ryo quickly grabbed him, shaking his head 'No' and getting glared at in return.

"I'm only doing what other normal couples would do you brat! Kissing their mates!" Dee sighed in frustration, hoping that he had been quick enough to pull his own shirt out to hide his obvious arousal, especially with Cal there.

"What? When did that happen?" Bikky looked at Ryo and frowned. "You decided didn't you? You never told me! You said that I would be told! You lied!" Bikky pulled away from Ryo, backing up as though he were disgusted with the whole thing. "Have you slept with him yet?"

Ryo felt the tension returning and his head started to pound. "Bikky let me get Dee situated and then we'll talk about this okay?" Ryo winced as the pain in his head began throbbing against his temples. Between the fatigue and everything else, he was physically and emotionally drained. This was not helping that at all.

"Yeah sure! Whatever Ryo... It's all about Dee! Dee always comes first." Bikky snapped storming off to his room. Cal stood in the living room looking after Bikky for a moment and then gave Ryo a sympathetic look.

"I'm sure that he didn't mean that Ryo. I will go talk to him." She offered, patting Ryo's arm as she passed.

"Yeah right! Like it's ever been all about me." Dee grumbled.

"Dee... please... You are not helping matters." Ryo rubbed his temple then took Dee's hand and set it in the crook of his elbow, leading him back to the bedroom.

"Is it okay if you just rest here while I go and have a talk with Bikky? I'll start dinner after that." He brushed the bangs out of Dee's eyes and sighed.

"I would rather pick up where we left off in the living room."

"That's not going to happen right now Dee. I need to talk to Bikky. I think that he's really intimidated by having you here."

"Intimidated? By a blind cripple."

"Will you stop being so goddamn self-depreciating?" Ryo all but shouted and then stormed out of the room. To pause in front of Bikky's door, raking his hands through his hair he knocked softly. "Bikky?"

"Go away! I don't want to talk to you right now!" The voice shouted through the door yet it opened anyway. Cal stood there smiling, trying to smooth over the rough edges.

"Bikky I'm sorry. I should have told you right away that I had decided to give Dee and I a chance. That was rude of me and for that I apologize but I won't apologize for what you just saw." Ryo walked into the room and sat down on the bed. "I-I... I care about him and I want to see this through."

"Yeah well he's a pervert who just wants to get into your pants! He's just in it for him."

Ryo tried not to blanch as Bikky voiced his deepest fears. "That's just not true Bikky. Please give him a chance... for me? I love him Bikky. I know that things are really hard for everyone right now and for that I am truly sorry but I really need your help."

Bikky sat with his arms crossed over his chest legs folded Indian style and his face set stubbornly. "See he's already wearing you down. How much farther are you going to let that creep mess up your life?"

"Dammit Bikky! I can't deal with this right now!"

"Ryo why don't you take a nap while Bikky and I run and get a pizza for dinner?" Laying delicate hands on his shoulders, Cal had seen the pained expression on Ryo's face and it broke her heart. "I'll also try to talk some sense into him." She added and smiled.

Ryo looked at Cal and then at Bikky. "Thanks Cal. That would be a tremendous help." Ryo took out his wallet and handed her some money. "Get two large pizzas. One with everything but NO anchovies!" Ryo made a face and Cal started giggling. "And then get whatever you two like on the other." Looking back at Bikky he sighed.

"Please understand Bikky that I have to follow my heart. I do love him and I know that he loves me." Patting his leg, Ryo stood up. Now that that was done with, it was time to move onto Dee and then the laundry.

Lyn shuffled the girls from arm to arm in the crowded subway. This was precisely why he hated New York. They had two babies and Andrew with a crutch but no one had the kindness to stand up and offer them a seat. That left a sore Andrew with no option but to hold on tightly while Lyn tried to keep his balance with his arms full of fussy babies. Andrew kept his spare hand on Lyn's belt loop trying to steady him as much as he could.

"How was Therapy?" Lyn managed over the din of weary passengers.

"Not bad. Dr. Kline seems to think that the yoga is really helping." Andrew said with a weary smile. "How were the girls? Kei seemed to be enamored with... What was his name..? Randy?"

"Randy." Lyn affirmed, his head being yanked to the side as Annie grabbed a fistful of his hair and pulled. "Randy's a good guy. Kind of shy and all. His partner, Dee, was queer bashed too. Not as much structural damage as you but a head wound that has left him blind. They aren't sure if he'll regain his sight or not..." Lyn paused, leaning in, wincing so that Andrew could pry Annie's hand from his hair. "Thanks. Anyway, Ryo's really struggling... Dee seems very... demanding. I guess that they have a 12 year old kid... Bikky... who is also a handful from the sounds of it."

"More of a handful then a toddler and a baby?" Andrew asked with a grin and then leaned down to plant a kiss on each of the girls heads.

"Literally less." Lyn laughed "Figuratively.... well... it's different..." Lyn paused, blowing his bangs out of his eyes, stumbling a little as the subway car came to a stop and grinning at Andrew as his belt was grabbed to keep him on his feet. "I really empathize with Ryo you know? Dee hasn't been home too long and the poor guy is all ready about to throw in the towel and have himself committed."

"How long did it take you to burn out?" Andrew asked softly, a slight frown bowing his lips.

"Me? Burn out? Nahhhh." Lyn forced a laugh and a smile as he tried to balance Keiry's weight on his hip.

"Lyn I know that you went through your own hell with this. You don't need to hide that from me."

"I know..." Lyn sighed, the faint Irish accent deepening to a full lit as he spoke.

"Three days before I was crying in the shower every morning... Five before I was locking myself in the bathroom to get a moment to collect myself and seven before I couldn't even collect myself..." Lyn looked away, hating to admit any of this even though he knew that Andrew already knew.

"You're amazing Lyn." Andrew said softly, brushing a kiss over Lyn's cheek. "So where on that continuum do you think Ryo is?"

"Bathroom locking! With Dee's bad attitude I'd give it... hell... another week? Before Randy looses it completely... Do you think that we should take matters into our own hands? I mean Dee seemed pretty anti-people...."

"...But Randy needs help" Andrew finished, inserting a teething ring into Annie's mouth and bending down to sniff Keiry's diaper. "Kei needs a change when we get home. Yeah I don't know...? I think that Dee might be a good guy underneath despite his sarcasm. I didn't get the impression that Randy would put up with him if he wasn't."

"I do have their phone number so if Randy doesn't call in the next couple of days then I will call him. I went through this alone and I wouldn't wish that on anyone else." Lyn sighed and Andrew smiled at his lover, a soft understanding smile.

"I know that you did baby and I'm sorry for that."

"It's not your fault, 'drew..." Lyn sighed heavily. Sometimes it was still too much. "It was no one's fault. I just know that no one is super dad or super mate. I want to help these guys An, even Dee. I think losing your sight would fuck with anyone's personality."

"Watch your language." Andrew admonished absent mindedly. "Yeah if they don't call and invite us over in a couple of days then lets call and invite them over... all of 'em." Lyn grinned through the hand that Keiry had put over his lips.

"Thanks An. You're the best."

Ryo sighed as he flopped down onto the couch. The last load of laundry, dishes and forms for Dee were done and now all he had to do were several reports that he didn't have time to do at work and in between that he had to wake Dee to give him a light snack before he took his evening meds.

"By the time I get to bed it should be well after one. That will give me maybe 5 hours of sleep." Ryo glanced at his watch and slapped his forehead. "Shit I wanted to call Lyn and apologize to him for Dee's behavior. I wonder if he's still up?"

Grabbing the phone, he fished the card out of his shirt pocket and dialed the number. While he waited for someone to pick up, he pinched the bridge of his nose, his headache had only worsened as the evening wore on. Now it was drumming through his skull like a runaway freight train.

"Sanitarium! Nut case of the week speaking." A rather harried male voice answered on the fourth ring.

"Lyn?" Ryo pulled the phone back, gazed at it quizzically and then he started chuckling.

Laughter filtered through the line. "Randy? Yeah its me. Keiry Anne get out of the dog food! Sorry Randy. Ouch! Son of a...! An will you take the kids a minute?" Ryo could hear the rumble of Andrews lower baritone in the background then footsteps and then a door shutting. Lyn took a deep breath. "Sorry about that Randy."

"And I thought that I was going crazy." Ryo smiled and then shut his eyes tightly, scrunching up his face as the waves of pain thundered through his head. "I won't keep you. It sounds like you're very busy but I wanted to call and apologize for the way my partner... I mean my companion acted this afternoon."

"Don't worry about it. We understand completely. No need to apologize at all. " There was the squeak of furniture as Lyn sat down heavily, his accent thicker then it had been that afternoon. "You sound pretty worn out yourself."

"Yeah I guess that I am but I still have 3 police reports to do that I couldn't finish at work. Thankfully Dee's sleeping again, the pain meds make him drowsy but maybe that's a blessing." Ryo smiled, despite how his head felt. It was nice having someone to talk to about thing other then Dee, the guys at work or doctors.

"Yeah don't even get me started on paper work. I'm looking at a stack of it about two inches thick as we speak. Those pain meds are tough. No matter how much he bitches never give them to him early... in fact if you can give them to him late, if he'll let you. They are so easy to get addicted to. Pain sucks but it's never killed anyone yet. Are you holding up okay?"

"Well let's see I broke at the therapist's office, once in the car after coming home because Dee was being a prick, once after my foster son found out that Dee and I have started a relationship and once in the laundry room after I realized that I had accidentally shrunk my favorite sweater." Ryo clenched his fist, the pain in his head was almost unbearable. "I'll work on that with Dee's meds. Thanks for the advice."

"Randy?" Lyn's voice was gentle.

"Uhm... Yeah?" Ryo managed to squeak out.

"Do me a favor and take three deep breaths."

"Okay. I think that I can accomplish that." Ryo closed his eyes and did as he was instructed. "Lyn if you'd like you are welcomed to call me Ryo. It's my Japanese name and seems to be what everyone else calls me."

"Fair enough and you've already got the shortest version of my name..." Lyn paused, taking a couple of deep breaths to center himself as well. "Ryo it's okay to cry. It's okay to be upset and angry. You just got promoted to nursemaid as well as father and lover. Being just the latter two is a challenge in and of itself. Believe me I've been there. Hell I've still got one foot in 'there'. It all seems insurmountable but it's not. Take things one task at a time. If the dishes don't get done who the hell cares? Floors don't get vacuumed...? I promise you that no one will notice. Do only what you have to and don't stop sleeping. I made that mistake, bad plan. I promise."

"That's just it. Dee and I... Well I was going to see him that night to tell him how I felt. I found him lying there. I-I thought he was dead." Tears began trickling from Ryo's eyes. "I finally got to tell him two weeks later. We haven't gone beyond kissing and light touching." Ryo was shocked at how easy it was to talk to Lyn and how comfortable he felt talking about something so intimate to him. Maybe if he weren't so tired that would be different but for now he needed someone to lean on, anyone.

"Some days I feel like I'm going to explode and that scares the hell out of me. I love Dee and my foster son but dammit they forget I need time to myself as well... Maybe I'm just not cut out for this? I don't know what to do Lyn... I'm so scared that this will break us both." That was it, Ryo broke and the sobs came on stronger.

"It's okay Ryo. It's okay to be scared. No one is cut out for shit like this. No one. Dee and your son need to know that you need personal space so don't be their doormat Ryo. Tell them that you need time. Your son is old enough to do most things for himself and Dee has been released from the hospital. That means that they think that he is fairly self sufficient even if he doesn't agree." Lyn paused, swallowing. "It will be okay Ryo. Drew and I are more then willing to help out whenever you need us."

"Gomen... I mean sorry. My god you have your hands full as it were and here I am dumping my problems on you." Ryo sniffled. "It's just that it's been awhile since I've talked to anyone other the other detectives I work with, Dee Bikky or Penguin. She's a nun that more or less raised Dee." Ryo drew his knees to his chest, rocking slowly.

"It's okay and I know what gomen means. Andrew is quite fluent in Japanese. With Andrew mostly on his feet and Keiry feeding herself I've got all kinds of time on my hands." He laughed softly. "Really, I don't mind at all Ryo."

He paused and Ryo could once again hear Andrew speaking in the background. "Of course. Do you have her bottle?" The phone was juggled as a baby was placed in Lyn's arms. Annie, judging by the quiet fussing, which was quickly stifled by a bottle. "Anyway as I was saying. I went through this alone and I almost lost my mind. I want to help you out Ryo. You need it."

"I don't know what we'll do if Dee's sight never comes back. Being a cop is all he's ever known. His foster dad was one as well. He was killed. I guess that's why Dee and I hit it off so well. I knew how he felt to not have any parents around. My parents were murdered when I was 18. If they were only here right now I could lean on them but they're not. I miss them so much." Ryo felt his will breaking.

He was so tired, God he was tired. Twelve hour work shifts blended with another 6 to 7 hours of taking over things at home. They were finally taking their toll on his all ready weary mind and physique. Looking down at one his reports he started realizing that he forgotten his notes for it at work and that just seemed to be the straw that broke the camel's back. He didn't want to be strong any longer. He didn't want to be the pillar of strength that Dee and Bikky were looking for. All he wanted to was to go back to being just Good old Randy MacLean but he was stuck in this newest role and there seemed to be no end in sight.

"Help me Lyn... Oh dear god help me." Ryo's resolve once again broke as the sobs came on stronger. The phone slipped from his hand as he fell to his side, curling into a ball and crying. His head was hurting so much and he was tired and sore from all the work that he had been taxing his body to do.

Lyn heard the phone hit the floor and sighed softly, looking down at the drowsing Annie in his arms. "Ryo pick up the phone." He commanded gently, his spare hand signing to Andrew. "Pick up the phone."

"H-hello?" Bikky stared at the phone and then at Ryo who was crying. "Who the hell are you? What did you say to Ryo?" Bikky sat next to Ryo.

"Ryo! What's happened? RYO!" Bikky was unsure about what to do. Dee was of no help and Ryo was crying so hard that he wasn't even listening. Putting the phone back to his ear, he waited for a response.

Lyn blinked... That must be the foster son. "Uh hey tiger, my name's Lyn and I'm a friend of Ryo's. He's pretty upset right now and I'm not exactly sure how to help either... You might want to start with giving him a hug."

"Hugging is for sissies! I don't do them!" Bikky spat into the phone. "Hey Ryo! Dee needs to go to the bathroom! He's been yelling for the past few minutes. He'd saying that his stomach is upset too! Better hurry because I am not cleaning up after the moron!" Bikky got back on the phone.

"Hey Ryo will have to talk to you later. He's got... Uhm... Business to take care of. You know...? Like a family and one moronic jerk? Hasta la vista." Bikky watched as Ryo slowly sat up.

"Give me the phone Bikky." Ryo sat up and reached for it.

"But Dee wants you."

"I said give me THE PHONE!" Ryo wrenched it from Bikky's grasp.

"Gomen Lyn but I have to go now. Thanks for everything." Ryo hung the phone up and mechanically began another one of the common rituals he was getting used to. Taking care of everyone else...

"Shi-"

"Language!" Andrew admonished from the next room over.

"-into temple." Lyn finished staring at the phone shaking his head.
