Chapter 5 : The First Awakening It’s been a month after Hikaru became a member of the Wu Kingdom and on that time, she made sure she befriended with everyone. At that day they were preparing to attack Xia Kou, where the murderer of Sun Jian, Huang Zu, was located. Sun Quan has amassed the soldiers and some generals, including Zhou Yu, Taishi Ci, Ling Cao, Ling Tong and of course Hikaru herself. Xiao Qiao also volunteered to go. However… after several hours waiting, Sun Ce, who was supposed to lead the army, was missing. Furthermore, the morale of the army has been low from the start, and with Sun Ce’s absence, it plummeted even more. “Where could brother be…?” Sun Quan muttered in worry, “At this rate, our morale will dwindle until at the point where we couldn’t even fight !” The troops were already whispering here and there regarding to Sun Ce’s whereabouts, but Hikaru was even more worried. ‘I hope he’s all right…’ But after another hour, Sun Ce didn’t even show up. Hikaru’s worry reached its peak and she approached Sun Quan and said, “I’ll look for him if it’s all right for you !” “Hmm…” Sun Quan thought. He knew that if necessary they could go immediately, but Hikaru looked very determined, and so, he said, “… All right.” “Thanks !” Hikaru said in a cheerful tone and then ran off back to the capital Jian Ye. She searched here and there in the city, but Sun Ce was nowhere to be found. Eventually she reached the castle. As she entered, she panted and breathed heavily, tired. ‘Where are you, Ce…?’ “HYAAA !!!” Suddenly, Hikaru heard a battle cry coming from the inside. “It’s Ce !” Hikaru exclaimed happily and ran to the source. But what she saw was quite shocking for her… She saw Sun Ce fighting multiple of images of a sorcerer, alone, and he seemed to be hurt pretty bad. “Come on ! As long as you can continue, I could go on forever !” Sun Ce beckoned as he hit more illusions. But, he let his guard down and one illusion was trying to sneak behind him and attacked him. However, the illusion was slashed by Hikaru as she came in time. “Eh !? Hikaru !? What are you…” Sun Ce tried to ask, but Hikaru cut in, “There you are ! You know, the others have been waiting for you, you know !” “Sorry, but not after I kick this sorcerer’s butt.” Sun Ce answered, “This sorcerer, Yu Ji, is the cause of our low morale ! I must beat him and make sure he never come back and harassed our army in the future !” Hikaru was silent for a while. She realized that this is why Sun Ce was late. And if his army morale was low and they were sent into battle, it’s like assisting suicide. And… she cannot let it happen. Hikaru then readied her sword once more and said, “I can’t let it be ! I’ll help !” Thus Hikaru assisted Sun Ce fighting the illusions of Yu Ji. After awhile, the illusions grew stronger and both have to fight even harder. Eventually, they were triumphant, but tired. Just when they thought they won, a magical bolt was launched from somewhere to Sun Ce. “AARGH !!” Sun Ce screamed in agony and fell to his knees. “Ce !! Are you all right !?” Hikaru said as she came to him. But, suddenly an eerie laughter could be heard. “Hyehehe… Looks like I finished the curse !” the voice echoed, and as Hikaru looked forward, she saw another figure, the real Yu Ji. “Why… why are you doing this !?” Hikaru asked, in a bit of anger, “What have Ce done to you that you have to do it !?” “Little girl, this is none of your business, seriously.” Yu Ji said, “But I’ll tell you a bit briefly anyway. I hate him ! He humiliated me before and it’s revenge time !” “Ugh… Why you…!” Sun Ce groaned as his pain became worse, and Yu Ji continued, “And that curse will slowly take your life away… and nothing could stop it !” At that moment, the curse worked on really quick. Sun Ce felt another extreme pain and he screamed even louder and more painfully. The pain was too much that he eventually fell unconscious and entered a coma state. “Ce ! No !!” Hikaru screamed at his name, extremely worried. She sat near him and tried to wake him up by shaking his chest, “Wake up, Ce ! Please !!” “Hehehehehe !!!” Yu Ji laughed victoriously, “Victory is mine ! With my curse, from this coma state, The Little Conqueror will die !” However, Yu Ji didn’t realize that Hikaru’s anger has already reached its peak. She then stood up in an extreme anger, and faced Yu Ji as he could feel the burning flames of anger within her. “How dare you…” Hikaru started, “How dare you do this to Ce !! I… I will…” “You’ll do what, little girl ? What can you do to me anyway ?” Yu Ji taunted, and Hikaru replied with an angry scream, “I’LL NEVER FORGIVE YOU !!!” “RUBY LIGHTNING !!!” Hikaru then gathered a red orb of lightning and put her arms forward, launching a multi-forked red lightning bolt with another orb at the end of the bolts. And the orb was aimed straight into Yu Ji. The spell’s power was amplified, combined with Hikaru’s anger that Sun Ce was in a coma state, and the spell devastated the sorcerer as he screamed in pain. “… Ridiculous…” Yu Ji cursed as he fell down to his knees, “To be beaten… by a little girl… like you…” Eventually, Yu Ji collapsed and died. Hikaru, however, was too angry on him that she didn’t have time to pity him or lament her actions… As her anger subsided, she came to Sun Ce, and tried to wake him up. “Ce ! Sun Ce !! Wake up please… we have won… Everyone’s waiting for you…” Hikaru tried to wake him up, but Sun Ce didn’t reply. She became even worried that he was dead. She began to cry and her tears flown down from her eyes. “No… Ce… this can’t be real… You… you couldn’t be dead…” Hikaru sobbed as she hugged Sun Ce’s body, “Don’t leave me here… Ce…” Suddenly, Hikaru felt a strange feeling that she never felt before. It felt like magic, but it’s not like what she felt when Clef granted her magic. She began to glow white and Sun Ce also glew white. Even so, Hikaru never let go of her hug on Sun Ce. After awhile, the white glow began to vanish. And a short moment afterwards… Sun Ce began to wake up and groaned a little, “Oww… Damn, that hurts… Huh ?” The first thing that Sun Ce noticed was that his body didn’t ache anymore. If he was still under Yu Ji’s curse, he would’ve received an extreme pain. However, the curse seemed to be lifted away now. But, he received another pain now, not because of the curse, but as a result of Hikaru giving him an extremely tight hug. “Ce !! You’re okay !” Hikaru exclaimed, still in tears, “I’m glad… I’m so glad…” “Ugh… hey… a little space to breathe… here ?” Sun Ce had trouble speaking those words, as the hug was quite tight. Eventually, Hikaru released her hug. “Whew…” Sun Ce caught his breath and said, “Anyway, I feel all right now ! Unlike before ! What did you do that time ? I know you’re doing something !” “Um… I don’t know.” Hikaru said in confusion, “I just… hugged you, never wanting you to die. And suddenly there’s this white glow, and you’re back safely ! But that doesn’t matter anyway ! I’m happy that you’re okay !” “Well… sorry to keep you worried then.” Sun Ce nodded and he got up, “Let’s go to Zhou Yu and the others ! They’re probably sick waiting.” As Sun Ce moved to get to the army, Hikaru began to remember Zuo Ci’s words to her as she followed Sun Ce. ‘He said that I’ll receive a new single-time spell… I wonder if this is the spell he was talking about…?’ Back to the outside, eventually, Sun Ce made it to the army with Hikaru. “Guys ! Sorry for slacking !” Sun Ce said, and the whole army was surprised happily. “Lord Sun Ce is back !!” they all exclaimed each other. “Brother ! You’re safe !” Sun Quan and Sun Shang Xiang came to him, a bit worried. Zhou Yu also came to him, “Sun Ce, you got us really worried. What do you have to say this time ?” “Well I found out the culprit about this low morale incident, a sorcerer called Yu Ji. I tried to take him on, but I would’ve been dead if Hikaru wasn’t there to help me !” Sun Ce explained briefly, and everyone’s attention was turned to Hikaru. “How could we ever thank you…” Sun Quan said with a full gratitude, but Sun Shang Xiang elbowed him, gesturing on how they should act. They put their left fist and right palm together and bowed to Hikaru, as in thanking someone. Zhou Yu approached her and said, “You just saved our lord. That was indeed one great feat… For that, you have our thanks.” “Um… It was nothing, really… I just did what my heart told me to…” Hikaru said slowly. Shortly after, everyone was ready on their horses. Sun Ce explained more, “All right, guys. What Yu Ji said to you before was just lies to demoralize you. But, there’s no need to worry ! They’re all just lies ! And as long as you got the Little Conqueror with you, victory is assured !” Hearing that, the Wu army’s morale began to skyrocket as they enthusiastically yelled, “YEAH !!!” Sun Ce nodded and pointed his tonfa forward, “Good… All units, forward ! Our target is Xia Kou !!” As the army marched to Xia Kou, Hikaru didn’t realize that she changed the course of history a little… But… she knew that someone else was trying to twist history in even more cruel turns… xxxx

xxxx Zhang Liao led Umi into a waiting room for audiences. It was a somewhat big hall with a lot of chairs. “Why do I have to wait here ?” Umi said, getting a little impatient. Zhang Liao replied, “Lord Cao Cao is currently away. You should wait until he comes back.” For an hour, Umi waited there. Sure, she got impatient at times, but every times she tried to let out her impatient temper, she remembered that Cao Cao was depicted as the villain in the novel, and thus, she got a little scared to let out her temper. She doesn’t want to anger a villain after all… Eventually, after an hour of waiting, Zhang Liao came back to her and said, “Lady Umi, let us go. Lord Cao Cao would like to see you now.” “All… right.” Umi said with a bit of nervous tone. She was about to meet Cao Cao ! And what if something bad happened and he got mad !? As Umi followed Zhang Liao closely, she came upon the throne of room of Wei. It was quite a regal throne room, with a blue chair as the throne, and red carpet on the ground. Sitting on the throne was Cao Cao himself. Alongside him was his cousins, Cao Ren, Xiahou Dun and Xiahou Yuan, as well as his personal bodyguard, Xu Zhu. Besides them, there were also his own son, Cao Pi, and his extremely beautiful wife, Zhen Ji. Zhang Liao took his place along with the other warriors under Cao Cao’s service, the axeman Xu Huang, and the narcissist Zhang He. “So… you are that female Zhang Liao was talking about…” Cao Cao said, “You look… quite young. Then… what is your name ?” “Uh… I…” Umi said with an extremely nervous tone and started thinking something, before she finally figured out what Chinese people did in times like this in front of kings. And so she knelt down and brought her hands together, and said “My… my name is Ryuuzaki Umi. I am… usually called Umi. It’s an honor to meet you !” “Ha ha… Stand up.” Cao Cao replied, and Umi felt a bit of relief as she stood up. Cao Cao then continued, “Well. As Zhang Liao already told you, I am the ruler of Wei. My name is Cao Cao.” “Everyone, you’d be best to introduce yourselves and… be friendly for awhile.”  Cao Cao said to his officers and everyone starting from Xu Huang, who stood next to Zhang Liao, said, “My name is Xu Huang. I seek the path of true might. If I may ask, Lady Umi… do you also seek the path of true might ?” “Path of true might ? Gee, I wonder…” Umi said with a little nervous tone. The next one to introduce himself was Cao Pi. “I am Cao Cao’s son, Cao Pi. You do possess quite a beauty, Lady Umi… but… never mind.” ‘Beauty he said !?’ Umi was stunned when Cao Pi called her a ‘beauty’ and she started to make a nervous smile. Of course, which girl wouldn’t fall for a flatter coming from a pretty, yet quite cruel, boy like Cao Pi ? Cao Ren was next and he bowed and said, “I am Cao Ren, the cousin of Cao Cao…” But Umi mumbled lowly by herself, “Wow. I never know that there’s another short people other than Ascot… But he’s a full grown man…” “May I ask who is this ‘Ascot’ ?” Cao Ren asked again, but Umi shook her head and said, “It’s nothing ! Just… a close friend of mine who’s also short on size…” “I am Xiahou Yuan.” Xiahou Yuan, the next to introduce himself, started, but he suddenly got nervous and said, “I’m… uh… damn, what am I going to say ? Ugh… I forgot…” Umi just nodded, as she also got nothing to say. The next one to introduce himself was Xu Zhu, “I’m Xu Zhu. I’m Lord Cao Cao’s bodyguard, and I’m not gonna let anyone hurt my lord !” “Wow. You’re quite a tubby, huh ?” Umi commented and Xu Zhu laughed a little and said, “Well as long as you’re not planning anything bad on Lord Cao Cao, I’m not gonna hurt you ! So don’t worry !” “I am Xiahou Dun…” Xiahou Dun was next and he continued, “And anyone who gets in the way of my cousin… is gonna die !!” At that introduction, Umi became quite scared. Not because Xiahou Dun was saying those words quite loudly, but also because of his face was getting a bit scary with his single eye. “Xiahou Dun, you’re scaring that girl off !” Cao Cao reprimanded him when he saw Umi gasped in a bit of terror, “Control your temper !” “Ugh… okay. Sorry about that, cousin and… uh… Lady Umi.” Xiahou Dun apologized as Umi tried to get up and replied, “I… it’s OK…” “I am Zhen Ji.” Zhen Ji started, “I am the wife of Lord Cao Pi. Although I am a woman… I am quite deadly in battle… Are you… listening to me ?” As Zhen Ji said that however, Umi was too occupied looking at Zhen Ji’s gorgeous body. ‘Wow… she IS hot… my body wouldn’t even compare !’ “Huh ? Don’t tell me… you’re kind of impressed with my beauty ?” Zhen Ji said and she continued with a chuckle, “Don’t worry. If you performed well, I might teach you how to build up yours…” “I see… and so… that’s why Lord Cao Pi said ‘but’ before…” Umi commented, “He’s already taken.” “Heh.” Cao Pi smirked. And the last officer to introduce himself was… Zhang He. “I am the beautiful Zhang He… You agree, don’t you ?” “Huh…?” Umi was a bit confused with Zhang He’s attitude, but Cao Cao reassured her, “Do not worry about his weirdness. You see Xiahou Yuan ? Most of us agree that he is not gifted with a handsome face.” “But… Zhang He called him beautiful.” Cao Cao continued, “Not only him, but he also calls everyone here ‘beautiful’. Men or women included.” “EH !?” Umi said in shock… ‘What a weirdo I have meet here !’ she thought. Then, Cao Cao said to her, “The introductions are over… Now… what are you planning to do ?” “Um…” Umi was getting a bit nervous, and she thought, ‘Not now. I can’t tell him my mission about Zuo Ci. He’ll think I’m a freak and… he might even put me in a jail !’ So Umi tried to made a lie and said, “I… I was on a journey back home to the eastern countries. But I got lost and stranded here… So… if I may ask…” “You want a shelter here ?” Cao Cao predicted and asked her. He then nodded and said, “From the look of it… I can tell that you have a potential as a capable warrior…” “I will give you shelter here… But only if you accept to serve me.” Cao Cao said, and Umi was shocked, ‘Serve…!? Am I going to be… a slave !?’ “Heh… I know you’re thinking that I want to turn you into my concubine,” Cao Cao said once more, “But you are wrong. I am trying to make you a warrior, like Xu Huang, or Zhang He or Zhang Liao. Do you accept ? Otherwise I could just kick you out of this kingdom.” Umi began thinking after hearing Cao Cao’s words, ‘If I got kicked… I don’t know where I could stay and… maybe I will fail my mission instead… And if I die… everyone will get sad… Hikaru… Fuu…’ On the other side, Cao Pi was thinking another thing, ‘Have you lost your mind, father ? I know you have a weak spot of beautiful women, but recruiting this young girl… is a bit too much. Zhen Ji is exceptional because she is older, but this Umi ? She looks… a bit too young for your tastes.’ “Have you made up your mind ?” Cao Cao then asked again, and Umi have already made up her mind and said, “… I… accept your proposal, Lord Cao Cao. I will… serve you.” “Very good…” Cao Cao nodded and he stood up. “But as the first step, I’d like to see how you fare in battle… Zhang He.” “Yes, my lord ?” Zhang He said as he leapt to the front of Cao Cao and knelt before him. Cao Cao then said, “You are to become Umi’s sparring partner. Test her strength.” And so, Cao Cao led Umi to a training arena, whereas he sat on a chair to observe her battle. Zhang He stood in front of her as he prepared his pair of claws. “Well, Lady Umi. Maybe you could learn some beauty and grace in fighting… from me.” Zhang He said, “Don’t blame me if it’s going to hurt, though. Because I’m fighting to my fullest and most elegant prowess.” “Oh… okay…” Umi said and sighed. However, before the match even begun, Zhang Liao said to her, “Lady Umi, you haven’t picked your weapon. Are you really going to die ?” “Of course not !” Umi said with a determination and her orb appeared on her hand. With it, she called forth her armor and her blue rapier sword that she used and evolved in Cephiro. “I’m ready now !” Umi said as she prepared her stance. “With most pleasure !” Zhang He replied as he charged down to attack Umi. The battle was fought for quite long, and Cao Cao was observing it well. He then called forth Cao Pi. “Cao Pi… well, what do you think about this Umi ?” Cao Cao asked him. Cao Pi was silent for awhile, and said, “Well… I’d say she did pretty good. So far, nobody have gained upper hand. I’m impressed… such skill from such a young age.” After several bouts of fighting, Umi and Zhang He were still up and ready to go. Both received the same, little amount of wounds and they rarely let their guards down and displayed a great skill. “My beauty hasn’t died yet…” Zhang He said as he readied his claws, “Shall we… dance once more ?” “I’m ready to dance anytime…” Umi responded as she readied her sword. However, it all ended when Cao Cao called out, “That’s enough !” Cao Cao then moved down to the ground and approached them both and said, “You did well, Zhang He. And Umi… you have proven yourself worthy as an officer of Wei.” “So… I can stay here ?!” Umi said happily, and Cao Cao nodded, “Yes. But… since you’re also my officer and we’re in the time of war and chaos, you will obey me and go into battle whenever I requested you to deploy.” “… Okay…” Umi said, trying not to sound unexcited, ‘I guess… it’s bound to happen.’ “Well then, get some rest for now.” Cao Cao said to Umi, “However, you should also be ready after you healed your wounds… I’m sending you to a battle to test your prowess in battle, not duels…” “Yes… my lord.” Umi confirmed and as she returned to the Wei officers and received praises from the other Wei warriors including Zhang He himself, Cao Cao was thinking of something, ‘There will be only one hero in this land… and that hero is me.
