Pain
That night that she first met Raven was one she didn't like to remember. Apart from him treating a rock like it was more interesting than her and basically ignoring everything she tried to talk of all conversations ended in her venting that she would go crazy if no one talked to her or something like that. He just didn't care about that either. He knew she would stay; she had nowhere else to go.
As for his black organiod. It apparently didn't like her, she could tell. But it didn't even look like it liked him much. She thought of it as a love-hate relationship. But that night was over a year ago and the only decent conversations she got out of him was during battles where she interpreted the most vulnerable spot on a Zoid was so he could easily fix it and sell it for a ridiculous price. Today was one of those days.
“Valet, full report. I want to know how to beat this thing without completely ruining it or without getting my ass kicked in the process!”
She nodded in his general direction from her safe spot towering distinctly above the battle ground. They had not encountered this kind of foe yet he was counting on her which made her want to work a little harder. Inside, however, she was picturing him beg for her help.
Clearing her thoughts she focused on the layout of the machine, first taking in all the details of it. Focusing deeper she peered to the inside circuitry. As the details of the suit floated into her mind she relayed them back to Raven.
“Shield structure at 100%. Two blades on each side…and,” her eyebrows contracted slightly at the mental picture that had abruptly appeared, “a white organoid…”
Silence from the ear phone.
“You're meaning to tell me that there's a white organoid in that suit?”
She went through the layout again and confirmed the location. “It's where Shadow is in yours. Identical usage, it enhances the performance of each zoid it inhabits.”
“We're just going to have to destroy it then!”
He knew he had turned the ear phone off and silently she pocketed it. She saw the blue light faintly arrive and be somewhat absorbed by his Geno Breaker. Valet didn't know how this organoid had learned how to make the Geno Breaker function as long as Raven wanted. Originally, an organoid would only last 1 minute under the intense pressure and energy it requires. This organoid could last for 5 minutes maybe even longer. It didn't really surprise here, those two were and incredible team. There was a faint buzzing sound and she heard muffled talking. Scrambling to pick up the ear phone she replaced it and caught.
“-he pilot?!”
“Repeat please!,” she chirped happily.
Noticing the silence she could tell he was blankly glaring at her for her indolence and childish games. “Can you tell me who the pilot is?”
She waited and pushed on “What do you say?”
“Valet there is no time for this. I'm in the middle of a battle right now! I need an immediate response.”
“Fine, fine you ungrateful….”
Focusing again she made out a blob of heat and she defined it more. She sent the vision to the cockpit and heard him swear. At that moment a sharp jab to her brought her back to reality. I have to stop doing that! Too many times did she try and register the thoughts of the opposing pilot. It's not like she tried to, it just happened and the after effect wasn't desirable. To keep her mind off things she began to watch the fight. The liger's shield was fading quickly and she noticed the flicker of excitement from Raven as he powered up for the Particle Beam attack. So much for selling the piece of metal.
Raven thought that the blue shield liger looked familiar but he needed a confirmation from Valet. “Who's the pilot?!”
“Repeat please!,” she said in that too happy voice she always used just to annoy him. He clenched his teeth and gritted out more politely, “Can you tell me who the pilot is?”
“What do you say?”
He threw his head back in annoyance and took out his frustrations by firing a barrage of missiles towards the blue suit lingering in front of him. It ran towards him for and attack which he easily out-manuvered.
“Valet there is no time for this. I'm in the middle of a battle right now! I need an immediate response.”
He heard her sigh and it was followed by “Fine, fine you ungrateful….”
A small screen came up and zoomed in on the pilot. Pounding on the controls and swearing he decided that this was a most appropriate time for Van to die. He switched the controls to the Particle Beam and aimed at the liger. He wouldn't be tricked again by the power of the shield. His Beam was more powerful than the shield wan in the Geno Beaker anyday.
Valet waited to see the beam of light emit from the Geno Breaker but before the maximum power was reached the liger shot out of its' range and appeared on the cliff near her about 200 yards away. She saw it send off a signal and heard something like “—frozen?—,” from the ear phone. She look from the now powering up Liger to the frozen Geno Breaker then saw a blue streak plummet towards Raven.
Noticing the appearance of this attack she frantically yelled for Raven to escape. That was seconds before she saw the Geno Breaker crushed to pieces by a lethal front-on attack.
Valet threw herself down the cliff on which she was standing and somewhat gracefully one legged down the side. Running towards the pile of debris she made out the ruined cockpit and saw Shadow on the outskirts of the wreckage, twitching slightly. Her legs throbbed after 3 minutes of sprinting towards this hell. When she finally made it there she scrambled around trying to find some kind of movement in the rubble. Forgetting about the Liger was a stupid mistake. It towered above her, growled, turned sharply and ran off into the distance, stopping for only a brief moment near the edge of the cliff opposite her during the battle.
She continued to search but her head throbbed more and more as the minutes passed on. She felt Shadows' energy going up and saw the organioid checking through the metal and fire around.
A hand twitched ever so slightly in front of her and she ridiculously heaved the metal and glass off of the body underneath.
“Kill him..”
Valet lifted him up onto her legs and awkwardly hug-held him.
“Yeah, yeah you'll kill him when you're better.”
Her eyes started blurring up as he dosed off in her arms. His breathing was steady and his mouth slightly open. She paused for a moment and soaked in the picture then fought to put him on her shoulders. Shadow stood before her and turned around. For a moment she expected him to run off, to be free. Instead he outstretched his wings and snorted. She looked to his back and he snorted again and pushed his head forward. “Ride?”
Shadow hissed and she grabbed hold, placing Raven underneath her and placing arm under his arm pit to keep him steady. “Lead on…,” she mumbled fighting off sleep.
