Fan Fiction ❯ A Visitor from the Past ❯ The More Depressing Epilogue ( Chapter 12 )

[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]

Author's notes: Okay dudes this is the really depressing ending to the Artirion saga the one before this one was bleak yes, but I think you just might find this one more depressing. It's done to a song that I thought would be perfect. Enjoy, and for all you Raven lovers out there I'm one of you but there had to be someone who gets the butt of this story, and Raven unfortunately drew the short straw. The underlined segments are the song.

The More Depressing Ending

She's far from the land where her young hero sleeps
While around her sweet lovers are sighin'
But coldly she turns from there winks and weeps
For her heart in his cold grave is lying,
She sings the wild songs of her own native home
Every note which she so loved awaking
Ah but little they think to delight in her tones
Ah the heart of this young girl's breakin'
So make her a grave where the sun goes to rest
And think of the glorious tomorrow.
May it shine on her sleep like a smile from the west
On her own lovely island of sorrows.

Raven looks down on the grave of her late husband, Artirion. The other titans had gone inside a few minutes ago but she stayed out here to be with him. She pulls a bottle out of her cloak and looks down at the label, it says mixture. Must be one of her own concoctions, she unscrews the cap, and takes a long draw.

Raven: Woo. *She sits down next to the grave* How you doin'? Feelin a'right?

She takes another draw from the bottle; it seems that she needs to drink more and more before she feels the effect. She has been feeling worse and worse as the days go by. Ever sense that day three weeks ago, it has been getting harder and harder to get out of bed every morning. She knew she was not doing real well and frankly she stopped caring. In her drunken stupor she starts to talk to the grave.

Raven: So *Hiccup* what's it like on the other *Hiccup* side? I mean is it all sunshine *Hiccup* and roses like everyone says or *Hiccup* is it more like here? I hope *Hiccup* it's like everyone says 'cause here it's really a *Hiccup* bitch.

She continues to drink and talk until she finally passes out due to drink and sheer tiredness. Robin eventually comes out looking for her and finds her exactly where he expected. He looks down on her with pity and slight distaste, but he knows she has been going through a rough time. So, he picks up the bottle and throws it off into the bay, then gathers up Raven's sleeping body and brings her to her room. He then walks back down to the rec room.

Robin: Don't worry, I found her.

Cyborg: Let me guess, passed out over the headstone?

Robin: Right where we left her. I starting to have serious concerns for her health, she's been drinking way too much and she passes out next to that headstone outside. She's going to get sick.

BB: But what can we do? She was just forced to kill her own husband.

Starfire: I am in agreement with BB, she is troubled but she is still in grieving her loss to Artirion. I think she will be okay we just need to give her time.

Robin: Alright, but if she doesn't straighten herself up by the end of the month I'm going to have to take action.

Starfire: Agreed

Cyborg: I second that motion

BB: Yeah, I guess it will be best for her.

Though he lived for his love it's for his country he died,
They were all that life had entwined him.
The tears of his country may never be dry,
Nor long that his love stay behind him
She sings the wild songs of her own native home
Every note which she so loved awaking
Ah but little they think to delight in her tones
Ah the heart of this young girl's breakin'
So make her a grave where the sun goes to rest
And think of the glorious tomorrow.
May it shine on her sleep like a smile from the west
On her own lovely island of sorrows.

The next morning Raven walks up with a horrendous headache, now she was sure what she drank last night was one of her own mixes. With bleary eyes and a heavy heart she slowly rises from her bed, she doesn't remember coming into her room. Although that doesn't mean much, she doesn't remember a lot of things anymore. She walks into her bathroom to take her daily cold shower and wash the alcohol aftertaste from her mouth.

Raven: Well, another day in a pointless existence.

She finally realizes what it is that's been bugging her, after two weeks she finally understands. She's been gutted, now she knows what happened to the fish she used to like so much. As she steps into the icy cold water her awareness returns and she feels the full extent of her aches.

Raven: *She sneezes* Great now I have a cold.

She enters the rec room and sees the wary looks of the others; it's that look that says so plainly that they are watching her. It's almost enough to make her uncomfortable but she does not buckle. She does have the decency not to drink in the company of the others, although she doesn't eat either. When she feels she can't take the silence any longer she walks from the room a bottle safely stashed under her cloak, but the minute she walks out the door Robin accosts her.

Robin: Raven, hey, Raven!

Raven: Yes Robin?

The look of surprise on Robin's face is shocking, she wonders why until she asks him what's wrong; the rustiness of her voice surprises even her.

Robin: Raven, are you alright, you don't look good

Raven: I'm fine; I just need some time to cope.

Robin: Well, that's fine but I think you can cope without that bottle you have under your cloak. *He holds out a hand*

Raven: *She sighs* Alright. *She hands the bottle to him*

Robin: Thank you; now give me the other one, please.

Raven shows much more anger this time as she pulls another bottle from under her cloak, this seems to satisfy Robin.

Robin: Raven, You know I'm only doing this because I care right?

Raven: That's what all parents say. *She scoffs and makes a hasty retreat to her room*

Once she reaches her room she breaths out a sigh and reaches through a black portal, from it she removes another bottle and drinks (Rather pathetic isn't it?). When she feels the tingle rise in her fingers she begins to lose control of her emotions. As they start their never ending battle for dominance again she feels Depression, growing stronger, what is she ever going to do?

So make her a grave where the sun goes to rest
and think of the glorious tomorrow.
May it shine on her sleep like a smile from the west
from her own lovely Island of sorrows.
So make her a grave where the sun goes to rest
May it shine on her sleep
Like a smile from the west,
From her own lovely Island of Sorrows.

BB wakes up with a terrible shout, he thought he was dying, there was a cutting pain in his wrists and neck but he disregarded it not even sure if it was ever truly there.

BB: *Mumbling* Must've been a dream.

He lies down on his bed again and returns to a sleep that is much more uneasy than the one he left. In the morning when he wakes up he feels a terrible emptiness in the pit of his stomach, and when he goes down to breakfast Raven is missing. This is nothing new Raven has been getting up much later than usual these last few weeks, but he started to get worried at two when she still hadn't emerged. It was becoming common of Raven to sleep until ten or eleven, and if it was a really bad night possibly twelve, but two was a new record.

BB: Hey, anyone seen Raven yet?

Cyborg: No, I think she's pulling a day in her room to meditate.

BB: I'm starting to get worried.

Robin: If it's upsetting you so much go up and check on her.

Starfire: Yes I think I shall accompany you.

The two exit the rec room and walk the halls to Raven's room, when they get there BB knocks lightly on the door, there is no answer. He knocks a little harder, still nothing, so Starfire uses her strength and hits the door so hard it almost swings from its hinges. When no one answers for the third time BB uses his voice override key to open the door and as he looks over the room he is even more unsettled to find ………………………Nothing. No sheets ruffled, no water running in the bathroom, no sigh that anyone had been here all night.

Starfire: Friend BB, why is friend Raven not here?

BB; I don't know Starfire, I don't know.

They hurry back down to the rec room to make their report to Robin.

BB: Robin, she's not there.

Robin: *With a slightly distressed look* Well, then let's go out and check the grave.

The group of Robin, Starfire, and BB head out to the grave and find a glorious cornucopia of nothingness, at this point They are all starting to get a little edgy.

Robin: What could've happened to her?

BB: We need to search the tower.

Robin: I agree, the five of us will start on the bottom and work out way up.

Starfire: This is a good plan, let us go and inform Cyborg and Terra.

They begin their search just as Robin said, but with each passing floor BB became more and more worried. He knew something was wrong, and he knew they were not going to like it. When they finally reach the top floor right before the roof, BB is almost ready to jump from his skin if a pin drops. He asks Cyborg to go and get the first aid kit. Cyborg begins to argue but seeing the genuine worry in his friend's eyes he goes and fetches it. The other Titans are not expecting to find anything on the roof, but they are shocked and appalled by what they find. Raven is laying splayed across the roof the normal blue of her robes are for some reason dyed purple in spots, as they draw closer they see the reason. Raven is lying in a cold pool of blood that was thought to have come from the slits in her wrists and throat, as Cyborg rushed over to check her they all know what he'll find.

Cyborg: She's dead, and has been for awhile, at least sense last night judging by her temperature.

Cyborg reaches over and closes her eyes that were still staring emptily into the sky, and removes the dagger from her now stiff hand. Robin runs downstairs to call an ambulance; they still need to perform an autopsy.

~~Hours Later~~

The doctor emerges from the autopsy room, and looks at them with sympathy. They have changed into their street clothes but the doctor knows them anyway, they trust him enough.

Doctor: Well, she most certainly did the deed herself, but I don't think she was intoxicated when she did. No, she was very sober and knew exactly what to do and how, the cuts are right on the intersection of the veins and right over the corroded artery. I'd say she planned this for an hour or two before actually doing it, and the thought of turning back never entered her mind.

Robin: Was it a quick death at least.

Doctor: My friend, when we get a case like this it usually means that whoever died has been doing so for a long time; it's just that it took this long for them to ditch the body.

BB: She had just lost her husband, a few weeks ago.

Doctor: That's a good bet, and I did find some trace bits of alcohol in her system, I'd say she's been drinking heavily for quite awhile.

Cyborg: Well, thanks doc, when can we have her back?

Doctor: As soon as I clean her up and make her body presentable.

Raven was given back to the titans about a week later and they held a proper funeral, it was a private ceremony so only the five and the priest were present, when the ceremony was over they dug up Artirion's coffin and placed her inside with him. They also changed the headstone, to include both their names, and then left them to their sleep.

Author's notes: Alright dudes, I'll bet most of you are so mad at me right now you can't see straight, well I had to write it if I didn't my head would've blown up and then my family would've had to clean me off the walls. So, I'm asking you writer to readers, please forgive me. I really like Raven, I like her more than I like Starfire (Who's going to get the hard end of my next story) but someone had to get the bad part in this story and I'm sorry it had to be Raven. Well, that's my babbling time for the night so I'll say goodnight and thank God that this story is finally done, this is Quickleaf signing off, live long and prosper and I'll see you next crime *wink*.
