The sound of Meredith's hard breath could be heard in the dark forest around her. She had reached anaerobic state miles before all that was driving her was adrenalin and fear. She had no hope of escape and she knew it. He was far too good of a tracker and her blood was to clean of a trail.
Her last stumbling footsteps told him she was dead and his work was done, well almost. He slowed his pace as he came nearer to her body collapsed on the ground in a heap of blood and sweat.
“If only you had listened…” He said almost in a laughing tone as he knelled down beside her. He rested the tip of his blade on her neck, then with one quick motion the decapitated was done.
The man walked to the gates of Lord Bakari's mansion with a sack over his shoulder. His wet blond hair could now be seen in the light of the dimly lit guard station. The blood had been washed off his clothes, a pair of simple brown pants, with the cuffs tucked into leather boots, and a charcoal colored vest over a baggy black long sleeve shirt that had been stained and washed many times. The only thing still carried the scent of blood was the bag over his shoulder.
“What do you want?” The guard asked as he reached the gate. The guard looked over the man slowly noticing the sword on his side. It didn't worry him though most men carried a sword at that time.
“I have a… delivery for Lord Bakari.” He said looking up at him and smirking. “He'll be expecting me.”
“It's two in the morning I doubt he'll be expecting anyone.” He pointed out. Although it would surprise him if his employer had been expecting someone this late at night, he was just bored and felt like holding him up for a few minutes.
“Well I wouldn't be expecting anyone to deny entrance to a man with a sword.” He said his smirk growing as he pulled out his sword as if he might use it.
“Oh and why wouldn't I?” He asked smiling a bit as he pulled out his own sword. The night held no hope for anything more interesting so hr figured he might as well have a little fun with this guy, but he wasn't ready for what he had unleashed.
“Because most men don't want to lose their head's over such a small mater.” The blood said nearing the guard but his did not move his sword.
“What makes you think I will lose my head?” He asked making the first and fatal move. The guard's sword moved up towards the blonde's side hoping to have slip up him along the rib. The other man moved faster though, easily blocking the sword before running his sword up then to the side slashing the head off the man.
As the head fell to the ground the man smiled. Every time he took a life he had a weight lifted off his shoulders. Almost as if he was doing an act of goodness and service to his fellow man instead of taking the very life and breath of one.
Taking in a deep breath he knelt down and cleaned his blade not wanting to leave the blood of the man on it. He slipped the blade gently back into the sheath.
Climbing up the side of the gate he easily jumping down onto the path that lead to the small castle in front of him.
After taking a minute to make sure no one was round he walked up the path and opened the doors of the castle not bothering to knock. He walked threw the silent house the only sound that could be heard was the scratching of a pen on paper.
He followed the sound until he got to a room with a man in it. Bakari was hunched over his desk his hand gliding over the piece of paper he was writing on. “Welcome back Ailken. Did you do your job?” Bakari asked not looking up from his paper. His black hair fell over his eyes covering their green color and the small glasses he was wearing.
“Yes, As all way.” Ailken said tossing the sack on his desk, the head rolled out blood dripping onto the paper it was on. Bakari closed his eyes as he lifted his head up slowly. He opened his eyes before grapping Meredith's head by the hair and throwing it off the table.
“I need these papers you know…” He said his green eye's narrowing a bit in irritation as he looked into the assassin's eyes.
“Then I hope who ever is getting them won't mind a little blood on them.” The other man said as he walked closer to the table. “Now let's stop worrying about that and get back to what I came here for. My money.” He said looking down at the man at the table.
“In time.” He said looking down at his papers again and running his hand threw the hair on his swaying head. He stood up and took of his glasses taking a deep breath. “First I have another job for you.” He took a piece of paper off his desk and handed it to the assassin.
Ailken looked over the paper for a few seconds then back up at Bakari. “So she's like the others the young wife of one of your enemies?”
“No not quite…” Bakari said as he walked around the desk to a small table with bottles and glasses on it. “Would you like a drink?” He asked knowing Ailken couldn't control himself when alcohol was involved.
“No.” His voice coming out sharp and quick. “Just get on with the job.” He said not wanting to get pulled into the alcohol that had been offered. He knew if he did he would never get pay and would only end up with a sore ass.
“Fine.” Bakari said a little disappointed at Ailken's choice. He filled a glass for himself, his eye's going down to looked into the golden liquid as if it would tell him about the mission. “She's different then the others, mainly because it's not her husband I want to get to.” His eye's going up to meet Ailken's. “It's her.”
Ailken raised an eyebrow and smirked at him. “Go on.”
“She knows more then I wish for her to and I wouldn't want to see what it would be like if she used it against me.” He said taking a swig of his drink.
“Oh really what does she have on you?” Ailken asked his smirk turning into a grin. He always loved the secrets about this man. There were many and usually kept well. Yet some how this girl had gotten threw the walls and had been able to find them out. Now though she would pay.
“It's none of your concern.” Bakari said walking over to Ailken and running his hand down his cheek. “Unless you would like me to tell them to you over breakfast.”
Ailken glared at Bakari as he took a step back and turned around. “Then I guess all I need now is my money and I'll be ready to go.” He said wanting to get away from his employer before her could pull something on him.
“It's in the cabinet by the door.” He said finishing his drink off. He looked over at Ailken longing to run his hands threw his golden hair and down the rest of his musclie body.
Ailken nodded his head and walked over to the cabinet taking the sack out. “I expect you didn't try to cheap me out of anything.” He said as he put the bag in his pocket.
“Don't worry I would never do that to you.” He said going and sitting back at his desk. He still had a lot of work to do before the night was over.
Ailken smiled and walked out of the room turning around at the door to look at Bakari. “Good I wouldn't want to have to come and do something freaky to you in your sleep.” He turned and kept walking. He could picture the dirty look on Bakari's face and it made him laugh. He loved toying with this man, or any other person for that matter, but now instead of him toy with someone she would toy with him.
