Chapter One

Nikumu leaned against the filthy alley wall. Sobbing and choking, unable to do anything but cry. Tears streaming down his face, he examined his bloodstained hands. Using his arm, he wiped his eyes, trying to stop himself from shutting down. Meanwhile, Rezuka, who was walking home, spotted Nikumu's forlorn form in the dark. 'He doesn't look to good...hmmm' He thought to himself. He walked over, and noticed that there seemed to be, what he thought was, blood on the boy's gloves. Disregarding any doubts, he asked the boy what was the matter. Nikumu, with his lack of real perception as of the moment, simply looked up to his company. Rezuka saw the tears, and was filled with his natural sympathetic emotions. Taking action, he scooped the young boy up into his arms and carried him home. Hoping that whatever it was that was ailing the boy so, he could heal.

Nikumu woke up out of the corner of his brain to find himself in an unfamiliar room. Still crying, but now only as if automatically. He looked around and saw a red-haired boy peering down at him. He recognized him from the alley. 'Had he seen what I had done?!' Nikumu thought, 'Is he going to turn me in?!' Rezuka calmly asked him if he was alright. "Alright, how could I be alright?" Nikumu thought out loud.
Rezuka narrowed his eyes in a critical way, and responded, "What do you mean by that, boy?" Nikumu swallowed and tears still fell unbiddingly from his unusually colored eyes. Rezuka pursed his lips, and figured that he wouldn't be able to figure out what was wrong until he got the boy to calm down. He got up and went into his kitchen. Nikumu's eyes followed him but lost him behind a wall. He looked down to his gloves again, they were still tinged red. Rezuka came back, holding a steaming mug. He offered it to Nikumu, with a smile on his face. Nikumu took the cup, sniffed it, and found it to be cocoa. He blew upon it slowly, and took a sip. Savouring it's bittersweet chocolate flavor, he finally stopped crying. Rezuka asked him again, what the matter was.
Nikumu took a deep breath, and another sip of cocoa. "I've done something terrible..." He managed to say, through deep breaths.
"What?" Rezuka asked with concern clear in his voice. Nikumu took another sip of cocoa. His lip quivered as he answered, "I've...killed...someone." He waited for the older boy to get up and run to the phone. Rezuka didn't act surprised, instead, he asked him why. Nikumu was confused. Why didn't he get all angry, and run off cursing his existance? But he answered anyway, "I was walking my dog... My little dog that my grandpa gave me." He paused, and waited for the blue-eyed boy to respond. Rezuka merely nodded, gesturing for him to continue. "I was being followed. A boy at school. He didn't like me, he called me names." Pausing again. He continued, "He was throwing stuff at me and my dog... like sticks and cans, when they hit me, it hurt, and cut me." He showed Rezuka his arm. Several healing cuts covered the back of them. Rezuka gasped, but caught himself. He took Nikumu's arm delicately and inspected the wouds. Most of them would be fine, but one worried him.
Rezuka licked his lips, "I don't like the look of this one... I'll be back." He left and Nikumu tried to turn his arm around. He saw the edge of one cut, and gasped. It was bigger than he had thought. Rezuka returned with some antiseptic and a bandage. "Now this might hurt a little..." He spoke softly, and dabbed at the wound with the antiseptic. Nikumu bit his lip to keep from crying out. Rezuka placed the bandage over the cut carefully, so that every part was covered. Rezuka put away the antiseptic, and then sat down on the couch next to Nikumu. He gestured for Nikumu to continue.
Nikumu took another sip of cocoa, and another deep breath. "Well, anyway, he was following me, and throwing stuff, and some of them hit my dog. He whimpered, and I knew, but all I could do was start to run. So... I did. He started running too, and he caught up to me." Nikumu paused to wipe away a threatening tear. "...and he pushed me into the ground.. and, and, and he took a knife, and stabbed my dog, and stabbed him, and-" Nikumu covered his face with his hand, and began to cry again. Rezuka scooted closer to him, and put his arm around Nikumu's shaking shoulders. Nikumu peeked through his hands, and noticed Rezuka. He lifted his legs up onto the couch, and moved himself into Rezuka's open arms, and folded into a fetal position. The older boy wrapped his arms around the weeping boy. Nikumu shook his head, "No... I've got to tell you... the rest." He moved away from Rezuka's warm embrace and continued, "I got mad... when I get mad, bad things, my subconsicous..."
Rezuka stopped him. "Here, your cocoa is gone." He gestured to Nikumu's empty cup. "I'll go make you some more." He got up and went to the kitchen. The red-haired boy filled the cup up with water, and thought, what the young boy had meant by when he got mad, bad things happened. He dismissed the thoughts soon after though, as he poured the cocoa powder in the water and placed it in the microwave. After a minute, it beeped and Rezuka returned to the living room. Nikumu was sitting down, legs crossed, with his gloved hands covering his face, he was clearly crying. Rezuka rushed over, as fast as one can move with a hot mug of cocoa. He lifted up the younger boys chin, and handed him the cocoa.
Nikumu took a long sip of cocoa, before going on, "...the guy laughed... he threw the knife at my feet... it missed, but only just..." He sniffed, "I took the knife...and I started to cry... he laughed... but then I glared at him and smirked..." Nikumu paused to wipe away a tear, "and he started to run... I... I threw the knife... it hit him in the back..." Rezuka wrapped his arm arond Nikumu's waist. He pulled him closer. "And... I walked up to were...he fell. And I pulled him up... and I licked my lips... I told him... oh, I told him 'sweet revenge'" Nikumu began to shudder, sobbing and convulsing. Rezuka saw that this was a crisis, and tried to calm the younger boy down. Nothing was working, but then, he wrapped him up in a swift embrace. Nikumu tensed up, but then returned it. Tears ran down Rezuka's shirt, and he didn't care. After what seemed like eternity, both boys parted, and looked down. Nikumu had stopped crying, but he still had trouble breathing.
Silence, until Rezuka spoke up, "I won't tell. Ever." Nikumu looked up and nodded. "You can stay here. Nowhere else to go. Not even school." Nikumu nodded. "I'll take care of you." Nikumu smiled a lopsided smile. 'forever' Rezuka thought to himself.
