Ancient Awakenings

Introduction-

It was nearly four in the morning, and the sun was just beginning to rise. A girl turned in her bed as the sunlight became brighter and stronger. Eventually it became to bright to ignore, and the girl was forced to open her sleep drugged eyes.

`Damn it.. another sleepless morning..' she thought as she arose from under her satiny sheets. Slowly, grudgingly, she walked to her bathroom for a shower. Hoping that would awake her from her still sleepy state. The warm water only proved to calm her and relax her muscles more, causing her to wish that the sun would drop out of the sky causing at least seven more hours of darkness. That, of course, was not going to happen. So she quickly washed up and dried off and walked back to her room, only to come to another crisis. `What should I wear today?'

She dug through her draws and found a black jean skirt. It seemed to fit her mood, so she tried it on. The ravaged material barely met her mid thigh, and fit her form perfectly. The next article of clothing she found was a blood red tank top, with off the shoulder shear sleeves of nearly two inches. Looking in the mirror she decided that the outfit was missing something. She soon found a white lace ribbon that she found could easily pass as a belt. Getting quickly bored of looking at herself in the mirror she decided to lay back down on her bed. Maybe she would be able to fall back to sleep and get another few hours of rest before school started.

-dream-

The sound of something scraping against metal reached my ear. `the kitchen window' was the first thing that came to my mind. “No.. i- it was just the wind” said a shaky voice. It took me a few moments to realize that it was my own voice that had spoken.. I knew it wasn't the wind, a stray cat, or the neighbors dog. But I couldn't help hoping that it was. This realization surprised me.

`Why would the sound of a window opening frighten me? I have been through far worse and not been this scared.' I tried to convince myself that it was nothing to worry about, but I couldn't shake the underlying fear from within me.

`Footsteps.. I hear footstep.. and a mans voice.' My younger self said again. I had to stop and wonder now why I was able to hear all of these things. Disregarding it as nothing important, I made excuses that since it was so quiet out all the other noises seemed louder. It was lame I knew, but something inside me told me that something was wrong about all of this.. very wrong.

Soon an image came into view. I was not surrounded by the dark, listening to the things around me anymore. I was watching my nine year old self climb out of bed and down the stairs. Something loud, a pot falling? The sound echoed in the night and made my insides churn.

`What was that?' The young me thought as she ran down the stairs only to come to an abrupt halt in the kitchen doorway. I looked over the shoulder of the nine year old me, but the sight in front of me caused a gasp to escape my lips.

“Father?” I asked but no one seemed to hear me. I walked closer to him. Only noticing the man my father stood before when he looked up. The man was obviously inhuman. His blood red eyes shot through any disguise he could have been trying to uphold. My father stood brandishing the bat within his hands as I watched the man rub his head as he stood. `The noise..' I thought, realizing what had caused it.

I heard my father tell the man not to come any closer and yet this creature did not listen. He was nearly within three feet of my family when my father swung the bat again. The weapon never reached the stranger though. It stopped merely 5 inches from his own face and floated out of my fathers hands only to land on the floor behind the red eyed man.

I saw his mouth move but could not hear anything. I wondered why but did not get to contemplate it long, for something was pulling me away from the shelter of my family and closer to the red eyed stranger. I tried to resist the force, tried to fight against it. Something was calling to me and I could not fight it.

“Kailey, Kailey.. come to me..” A voice whispered to me. After a few seconds I realized where it was coming from, but when I turned to look back at the stranger I was practically in his arms, and staring deep into his blood red eyes.

-reality-

Waking from her dream, Kailey soon realized her phone was ringing. She answered it, cautiously only to hear one of her best friends voices asking her if she was ok.

“Yeah I'm fine, what do you need?” she asked back sparing a glance at the clock next to her bed. Six o-clock it read. “Do you think you could meet Rikku, Aya, and me at The Hide-away in about fifteen minutes?” “Yeah, why though?” “I'll tell you there, that way I only have to explain everything once to all of you.” Suri said. “Umm ok sure. See you there.” Kailey said as she hung up the phone.

Kailey wrote a note explaining to her mother that she had to go to school early for an study group and would see her when she got home from school. She grabbed a pop-tart and her school bag, slipped on her black sandals and was on her way.
