Chapter 1

Discovery

Kailey's P.O.V

Rikku and I were the first to arrive at `The Hide-away'. The Hide-away was a kind of code name we made up a while back that way other kids and parents wouldn't find out about our secret spot. With some saved up money and help from our parents we managed to gather enough money to build a large tree house in the `forest' beside my house.

At least it used to be a forest. Now it's more like a very large park. The four of us, Suri, Rikku, Aya and I all helped in the process of building our little hide away. But with a small kitchen, a main room, two smaller rooms we used as a bed room and spare room, it turned out to be more of a small house then a tree house.

We built it in the center of the park, where the tallest trees grew. That way it would be difficult for strangers to see it or know it even existed.

Most of this was possible because of Suri and her connections, well her parents connections seeing as they worked for a secret section of the government.

After five minutes of pointlessly sitting on a small couch in the main room Rikku and I began to worry about what Suri might have called us here for. We glanced at each other knowingly before she got up and paced in front of a window.

“They're coming!” she announced a few moments later. We sat on the couch and waited for Suri and Aya to meet us in the main room.

“So now that we're all here would you mind explaining to us what the hell was so important that you had to wake me up at five thirty A.M. so we could meet up here?” Rikku asked impatiently.

“Well as you all know my mother and father have been assigned a very important, top secret , mission to accomplish for the government…” Suri began. “Yes and?” Aya asked persuading our youngest friend to go on with her story.

“Well last night I heard them talking, actually more like arguing, and then in the morning they were gone. My parents favorite maid, Tasha, had been given the position of being my guardian in there time away. This morning when she came to wake me.. she gave me this note.” Suri stopped talking to pull a piece of paper from her pink high-top converse. She looked longingly at the note then tossed it to me.

I unfolded the small handwritten note and read it aloud.

-note-

Dear Daughter,

I am sorry for leaving you alone but it just seemed the best thing for us to do in this situation. I know how it must seem to you, that your parents just disappeared over night leaving you alone with a house full of servants and a note, explaining how they think its for the best. We probably sound like horrid parents.

You see, your father and I are in a bit of trouble with our new job, and have been relocated. You must act as thought everything is completely normal. If someone finds out we are gone tell them we are on a vacation or on a business trip, which is slightly true.

I must ask for you to be extra careful while your father and I are away. We will not be there to protect you. I have informed the servants they are to look after you as if your life was their own. Still if anything is to happen to you tell your maid, or someone you are most certain is trustworthy.

I cannot give you any information as to where we are incase this note falls into the wrong hands. Be sure to watch out for a man in a blue and black suit with a tag that reads `Profitts'. Profitts is an organization that has been trying to get into our assignment since before you were born.

Be safe.

Love,
Mom and Dad

-tree house-

“Wow.. What do you think happened?” Rikku asked, the look on her face making the situation seem a hole lot less serious. The look was impatient, excited even. As though she was a little child begging her mother to finish telling a story that she had been saving for the next night.

“Yeah, do you know why they had to be relocated? I mean like in specifics.” Aya added on, her interest in the situation spiking as time passed.

Before Suri could answer her question I decided to add in a comment of my own. “So you must really trust us huh? To show us that and tell us whats going on even though you've been warned not to.”

“Well yes I do trust you all, we've all known each other since we were practically five years old. But yes, I do have an idea as to why my parent had to.. leave.” Suri said while shifting uncomfortably under our unblinking gazes.

“Well, tell us! What happened?” Rikku demanded

“I only heard part of their conversation, so I only heard about half of what was going on. From what I heard it sounded as though they had been involved in some.. project that has gone out of hand. And they are know working on fixing it. But lots of other companies and people, in search of power, have their heart set on finding whatever it is my parents were working on. And will have done anything to get it. Apparently it had become dangerous, the project and trying to hide from all these greedy thieves, and so my parents were relocated. Along with anyone else involved.”

“So what does any of this have to do with you? You don't know anything about your parents assignment.” Rikku asked, I rested my head in my hand sighing at our friends question.

“Rikku think about it, when two enemies are fighting what will they usually do before setting out into battle?” I asked “What? You cant answer a question with another question! Its .. its just not right.”

Aya laughed at how dense Rikku could be sometimes. “Each side will look for a weakness in there enemy.”

“Exactly, so Rikku, what do you think these Profitts people will recognize Suri as? A weakness, a link that is easily accessible to them and a definite bargaining chip with Suri's parents.”

“Ooh! I see. Well Suri you don't have to worry cuz we're here and we'll help you, no matter what. Wont we guys?” Rikku stated proudly. Aya and I giggled at the look on Rikku's face but Suri seemed to calm down a little at Rikku's promised loyalty.

“Oh! Its almost seven, we should probably start heading over to the school.” “Aya's right, wouldn't want to be late again would we?” Suri said giving an obvious glance towards Rikku.

“What? I don't make you guys late THAT much.. and even if I did its not like its my fault. Its just to early to be awake.” Rikku pouted as she climbed down the later after us all.

“Yes well remember we told the guys we'd meet up with them at the corner, which adds an extra five minutes to our travel time.” Aya said as we walked down the block towards our school.

“And I lost my schedule, so I have to go to the office and get a new one. Which will be a half hour wait anyways.” I sighed now regretting rushing to leave school the other day, and in turn dropping my books and having my papers, and apparently schedule, fly away in the wind.

“Again? I don't understand why you dont just memorize it.” Suri said “Easy for you to say, some people aren't blessed with a photographic memory, my dear.” I joked.

“Thanks Kailey.” “For what?” I asked turning to face towards Suri.

“Well I don't know just everything, accepting me when we moved here and always helping me out with stuff. I appreciate it.” “Well I always figured that being nice to the rich new girl would pay off someday, seeing as your parents have lots of connections with pretty important people.” Suri laughed at my joking comment as we followed after a now arguing Rikku and Aya.
