Fan Fiction ❯ Animorphs Reality: Megamorphs #1 The Invasion ❯ Chapter 9

Three pitch-black controller cars came around the corner.
Nicole jumped onto the quad quickly, and I jumped onto the jet ski trailer, thanking God I didn't fall through the plywood. Steve started driving and I grabbed the guns as I was pulled past where they were laying. I stuffed all the guns but one, the shotgun, under one of the belts holding the plywood on.
I loaded the gun, leveled it and fired. I almost threw up, not because the recoil hit me in the stomach, but because the Human-Controller, the one driving the first car in the line, no longer had a head. Well, not anything recognizable as a head. His head just blew open, like and over inflated baloon, except it sprayed pink and green-grey chuncks, that I assumed were the Yeerk, all over the interior of the car.
I shot again, this time with better aim, only hitting this controller in the arm, rendering him unable to drive and, in the proscess, removing the front windshield.
The car stopped and two Hork-Bajir jumped out. Just then the two cars behind tried getting around the first car without hitting it. They instead hit the Hork-Bajir on the right side of the car, squeezing his guts out and lubing up the street with his blood. His blood made the third car spin out, crashing head on into a tree, sending two Human-Controllers that weren't wearing seatbelts out the windsheild and to their deaths on the pavement below. Now we only had to worry about the third car, which was catching up, and I think it was going to ram us.
Instead of taking the time to reload I yanked out an already loaded rifle, shoving the shotgun into the slack left in my belt. I took careful aim. It would be in the right place in three . . . two . . . ONE! Shoot, load, shoot. I took out the front tires when it had almost caught us. Steve, fortunately took this moment to turn, almost sending me off the trailer into highway spinart.
The Controllers' car went flying down the block, twisted sideways and hit a telephone pole sending a Human-Controller and two Hork-Bajir to their deaths on the pavement. I don't know if the Human-Controller that was driving was okay or not, I just know that if he was, he decided it was easier to not chase us by himself.
Five minutes later we were in the woods, and I was holding on for dear life. That's right, who would have guessed that jet ski trailers were not intended to give high speed rides through the woods.
After about ten minutes we slowed down, so as not to make tracks that could be followed. I also notcied that we weren't going the same way as last time.
"Hey, Steve, where are we?" I asked
"Escaping the Yeerks, of course," Nicole said, still pretty shook up.
"I mean, why are we going a different way than before."
"Cause we want to go in a big enough loop to get there that if they can follow our track they'll loose it at some point before they get to our camp."
"Good thinking," I said.
Fourty-five minutes later, we cruised slowly into camp. Nicole was asleep on the trailer and I was laying down next to her, giving her a hug so she wouldn't fall off. Steve looked like he was trying his best to restrain himself from making a rude comment.
I got up and nudged Nicole. "Nicole, we're here." I whispered, so as to not startle her.
Slowly she woke up. By the time she did Steve had everything in the tent.
"Oh," She said, sitting up quickly.
"Wait here, me and Steve will set up the tent for you."
"No, I want to help," she answered.
"Okay, but do you know how?"
About ten minutes later we succesfully had the other two tents up. Me and Steve would stay in the six man tent, one of us on each side of the divider, and Nicole would stay in the two man tent, which was about a foot away from the door on my side of the hexagonal, six man tent. That was enough for us to get in an out, but close enough that we could talk without waking Steve at night. It was Steve's idea, I decided to thank him for it later. We set up the four man tent at the end of the little alleyway between the six and two man tents.
We put everything except the weapons in there. The weapons we kept up against the inside of the doorway, where you would only see them from inside the tent. We each had Dracon beams, a human firearm and a bow with arrows by the door closest to us. Steve was the one who got the shotgun, because the guns had come from his house. I got the extra Dracon beam though, but I really doubted any of us would need any more than two, especially with the other guns.
Oh well, we would have to tell the others about this tommorow, and find out from Cassie the areas where we are least likely to be found.
It was warm out so me and Steve were sleeping on top of our sleeping bags, with the windows and divider open so that we could get some ventalation. Or at least we were until we were woken up.
"Oh, NO!" Nicole screamed, waking us up.
