(Steve)
"So, Steve," Brian said, turning to me. "What morphs would be least noticable?"
"How the hell would I have any fucking clue?"
"I bet a bird of prey would work here, a sparrow near Jake and Rachel, and a pidgeon near Marco and Tobias," Nicole said.
"Why different morphs? Pidgeon or sparrow would work fine," I asked.
"Well, there are more pidgeons near Marco and Tobias and more sparrows near the others. And I'm sure whoever is here would rather have a laser-sighted bird of prey morph, since it can be done here, being near the woods and all."
"Ok, but who goes where?" Brian asked.
"I'll go by Marco. I can see Tobias's house from his apartment's roof," Steve said.
"I want to watch here because I want to try out a few morphs while I'm here, and 'cause I want to watch our tents, and I figure an owl will have an easier time seeing into the woods at night."
"Ok, that leaves Jake and Rachel to me. I can see Jake's house from Rachel's roof,"
We walked into the barn, and heard all sorts of animal noises. We stumbled around for a while until we found the light. We quickly aquired the animals. Me and Nicole just reached in and aquired the pidgeon and sparrow, but Brian knew better than to reach into the cage of a pissed off Great Horned Owl. He, instead, kept touching sides of the cage, making the owl shuffle over, back and forth. This kept up untill he saw his opportunity. A few of the owl's tail feathers stuck out between the bars. This was all Brian needed, he grabbed them and held them for a moment while the owl got all calm, then let go, now with an owl morph.
We all morphed and let me tell you, it isn't pretty. at first it seemed ok. our skin turned into the pattern for the feathers of our respective morphs and then became three dimensional. After that all hell brok loose. skeletons bending and melting and hollowing in unpleasant soundint and looking ways, lips curling and hardening into beaks, and shrinking with our clothes falling down around us. It didn't happen in any logical order, and it was different for all of us.
When we were finally done. The instincts came into place. The pidgeon wanted to find something to eat, or at least it did until it saw the owl. Then it wanted to escape, but I managed to keep it under controll.
Unfortunately Nicole did not. She took off flying.
<Whoa! Nicole calm down,> I heard Brian say in my head. I guess we can use thought speak in morph.
<Nicole, the instincts are taking you over. You have to get a grip on yourself. You are a human being. Brian won't eat you. Or at least not the way your thinking,> I said.
<Shut UP!> Brian said, making a wierd motion with his wing. I think he was trying to punch me, cause his wing hit me in the face, almost knocking me down.
The sparrow landed and we could hear Nicole laughing in our heads. <Well, I'll have to talk to you about that later, won't I Brian?>
I swear if owls could blush, he would have been crimson.
<Um, yeah,> Brian said very nervously making us laugh even harder in our heads. <But lets get going.> It sounded almost like he was hoping she would forget. And if she didn't I hoped he would forget that it was cause of my comment. I didn't want to have to deal with Brian being pised off at me for days, especially since I was sleeping in his tent.
<Hey, wait!> Nicole said, stopping us. <What about our clothes?>
<What?> Brian said, very nervously.
<Our clothes. They're on the ground.>
<I'll carry them to our tents. My morph is the biggest by a lot. You guy will just have to stay hidden really good. Its a warm night,> Brian said
<Okay...> Nicole trailed off.
<Or, since I didn't know Cassie really at all, they most likely won't come here... I could go to Jake's house and you can stay in your tent and sleep.>
<No, I want to do something.>
<I could try to get a small blanket to carry with us to Jake's house and leave it with you.>
<I don't know. How would we get it down?>
<I could go with you and just sit on the opposite side of the roof. So we couldn't see eachother, well, nude.>
Then something weird happened. They just stood there like they were still talking. But they weren't. Or at least not that I could hear.
Then they snapped out of it and Brian flew off.
<Where did he go?> I asked.
<To get the blanket,> Nicole asked, a wierd tone in her voice.
<I didn't hear anything about him acctually going . . . > I trailed off.
<You must not have been paying attention,> Nicole said quickly.
Then it hit me. They had been talking to eachother, excluding me from their thought speak.
