Birds Of A Feather...

Part Two- Cyclopes

by King Cheetah

I don't own any of these characters,
so don't rub it in...

Kinda sorta Robin/Raven pairing; you've been warned....

----------------------------------------------------------------------
That night, Raven dreamed of Robin, or more correctly, she had HIS dreams. She vaulted from rooftop to rooftop and glided above the city streets on a tether. She battle a fantastique rogues gallery of villains and bask in the praise of his mentor. She traveled familiar streets that she'd never set foot on before and saw the true beauty of a dark city than many had given up on too hastily.

His life, his world dazzled her, which coming from a demon's daughter is saying something. She finally, reluctantly arose at 6:00 AM to begin her daily routine. She went through her morning exercise regimen and thought of him. She showered and thought of him. She dressed (slowly) and thought of him. And as she prepared to venture downstairs for breakfast she stood at her door and looked back at the bed they'd both lain on together. As yesterday, he filled her head, only today it didn't bug her...

"Well well..." chimed Kid Flash, "You really ARE the early bird today. Got your water already boiled for you" gesturing to the kettle.

She flashed a slightly bigger than usual smile and set about making the morning tea. "Anyone else up yet, leadfoot?" she asked over her shoulder as she filled her cup.

"Just us, oh and given the time Robin's probably up and in the shower by now..." he said, deftly flipping another omelet. The very thought made her heart skip a beat.

"Hide-ho Titans and Titinas! Blow the trumpets and bend at the knee, for the breakfast king has arrived!" boomed Cyborg as he striding into the kitchen like a parade.

"You're up early." noted Raven between sips of tea.

"I'm always first to breakfast whenever Robin or Speedbuggie here are on breakfast detail. Easier to get seconds while they're still at the grill." he grinned.

"He fed the unstoppable eating machine," said the speedster with a dramatic wave of his spatula, "That's what I want on my tombstone."

Scooping two omelets off the platter, Cyborg grinned, "I'll get on that first thing this afternoon."

In short order, the rest of the Titans shuffled into the room, which took on an easygoing, jovial air. Why had I never noticed this before, thought Raven. With the heady infusion of Robin's memories, she began to see her teammates in a new light. With new interest, she sat quietly and merely took in all the conversations around her. Her friends very truly entertaining, and even Starfires relentlessly chipper banter wasn't getting on her nerves.

After what seemed to be a small, lonely eternity, Robin arrived and immediately shot her a quick smile (and a wink? It was hard to tell with the mask), which made her lightheaded. Balance, she thought balance and she quickly regained her composure. Those pesky feelings again...

Breakfast in hand, her erstwhile sibling took a seat between herself and Starfire, to the delight of both.

"Morning Raven. Morning Starfire" he said with the smooth easy voice of a FM radio announcer.

"Good morning to you as well Robin. I hope that your sleep was restful and untroubled." beamed Starfire.

For just an instant, a shadow seemed to cross Robin's face, but was just as quickly it was gone. "Never better, but if you have something in mind to help me sleep a little better, I'm all ears." said Robin with an exaggerated leer, which elicited a squeal and giggle from Starfire as she blushed beet red.

To Robin's other side, Raven could barely hide her grin, Starfire's girlish charms working even on her. But she had also caught his expression in that brief instant. She bit her lip; the dream. He had the dream. I need to talk with him after breakfast, she thought. And I need to wrestle him to the ground. And I need to pin his arms above his head and straddle his chest. And I need to reach down and slowly remove his mask with my teeth...

The three friends chatted over breakfast, occasionally puntuated with more subtle flirting with the lobster red Tamaranian. Raven delighted in the teasing over friend and even encouraged it at a few points. With Robin inside her, she felt so alive, and somehow whole. Her insecurities faded as she began to see herself as Robin saw her... mature, regal, exotic and dependable. And she wondered... did he now see himself as she saw him? He certainly seemed more at ease today. Hmm....

After breakfast, Robin and Raven started walking through the silent, empty halls of Titans Tower. Built on a grand scale, the Teen Titans actually occupied only a small portion of the massive scructure, and oft made good use of the vast unused sections. Solitude was easily obtained in the tower. The weather outside still precluded any rooftop meditation, so they just wandered halls and talked.

"That was too funny. What made you flirt with Star like that? You know how she is about you." smiled Raven.

"I dunno," he said softly "I just felt... playful. I think you bring out the bad in me..." and smiled.

"Oh great," smirked Raven," you start wearing her underwear on your head and somehow it's MY fault."

They laughed and walked on in silence for a few moments. Without warning, Robin said," I... I had the dream last night."

She knew the one and nodded, "I thought as much. Um, sorry. I guess I should have warned you or something."

After a moment he shrugged, "I knew it was coming." he paused for a moment, "I... I really wish I'd known that this is what you were going through. I feel bad about all the times I thought you were just being a drama queen."

This got a genuine laugh from her, "Well, you don't know that I wasn't" she smiled.

They'd stop walking now and stood in the pale shadow between two of the spaced light fixtures. "Raven, I mean it," he said taking her hands in his," I want to help you any way that I can. This is a big burden, and you shouldn't carry this alone".

She just looked up at him with one eyebrow cocked, "You're one to talk. You gonna start sharing with me?"

Slowly, he drew her closer to him and whispered, "Yes..." just as the alert sirens began to sound. "All Titans to the briefing room" boomed Wonder Girl's voice over the intercom.

They burst into the tower's central brief and said in unison, "What's the situation.", then looked at each other sheepishly.

Caught off guard by the odd display, Beast Boy stammered, "Uh.... okay. Well it looks like Cinderblock's too stupid to come in out of the rain. He's been sighted down in the Laurendale industrial park tearing through some of the storage sheds. On top of that, seems he's got a few rainy day puddle pals with him. Initial reports are vague, but it might be the Furies..." at which Wonder Girl groaned.

Robin rubbed his chin, "The Industrial park, eh. Is he looking for something or just renovation the landscape?"

The greenest of the Titans furrowed his brow as he looked over the readouts, "There's a pattern to his wanderings... I'd say he's doing some shopping."

Raven stepped forward and looked over the display, "Of course. That Industrial park is made up mostly of high energy research facilities. Their plan must be to have Cinderblock create as much mayhem as he can while they look for whatever it is they're after, then the Furies get it out of there quick while he fights a rearguard action. That being the case, whatever it is, it can't be too big or heavy..."

"Alright," said Robin, "Two teams. Cyborg, Raven and I will break Cinderblock. Beast Boy, Kid Flash and Starfire are to keep an eye on the Furies. Wonder Girl, you're HQ; keep us out of trouble..."

"Don't worry about us unless things get really hairy with Cinderblock," Raven said as she paced beside the com unit, "If they find whatever they're looking for, we'll need you fresh to keep up with then. Chances are good they won't look back at Cinderblock once they have their target acquired. We'll need the heavy restraining bolts for Blockhead and ponchos for everyone. Got your Hummer gassed up Cy?" she grinned.

"Uh, yeah. I'm always ready to roll." said Cyborg, unused to Raven taking such an active hand in mission planning.

Nodding, Robin and Raven yelled," Okay, Titans GO!" in unison, and bolted from the room. Everyone else just stared dumbfounded.

Finally, Beast Boy muttered, "Dude, was that not like the freakiest thing you ever saw?"

Wonder Girl was on them in a flash, "Alright, you heard them Titans! Hustle up! Move it!"

Wonder Girl had just moved a large cart of clean towels into the vehicle bay as the Titans returned. Wet, muddy and exhausted, they none the less had a triumphant air about them. Clapping her hands like basketball couch, she cheered the victorious heroes home, "Good job Titans, good job! Outstanding work all around. I see nothing but total badasses here..."

They all smiled and gave thumbs up as they stumble from Cyborg's Hummer and wearily headed towards the clean towels.

"Thanks Donna," sighed Robin, "That took a little longer than I would have liked, but we got them. Can we make some time later to go over this? I think I want to develop some strategies off this battle." Stunned, she nodded and tossed him a towel. Odd, he never wanted to preplan before; I usually have to nag him, she thought. Perhaps she was finally getting through to him.

Checking his watch, Robin called out, "Okay people, let's get cleaned up and hit the briefing room in 30, okay?" and with that, they began to shuffle out of the garage.

------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------

Raven caught up to Robin in the hall and matched his pace. "Okay new rule. Only I'm allowed to use magic in combat, deal?" she grinned.

Sighing, he blushed, "Aw, don't rub it in. That was SO embarrassing." Raven laughed softly and Robin thought for a moment just how much he enjoyed her voice.

"Well don't worry," she smiled, "we'll just keep this as our little secret, okay?" and she squeezed his arm affectionately.

"It's not you I'm worried about." he sighed, "Cy saw the whole thing, and don't think for a minute that he's gonna keep it under his hat..."

Smiling, she gave his arm another reassuring squeeze, "Well, don't worry, you'll live. You're tough that way."

As they reached the intersection to go their separate way, he turned to look down into her eyes, "You really think so?"

She looked up into his face and gently pushed his mask aside, "I know so." They looked into each others eyes for a moment, then she turned and headed off to her room.

------------------------------------------------------------------------ ----------------------

"And so, Blockhead's... trying to stomp his way... up this muddy hill..." said Cyborg as he deftly punched at the game controller.

"Uh-huh" replied Beast Boy trying to match his pace and grab a nacho at the same time.

"And I'm seeing this buncha... oil barrels off to the... side... of the building. OW, watch out! So... I yell out to Raven to toss the oil over on... Cinderblock. Y'know, really slip him up... DOH!" he cried as his Porsche Boxter went up in 128 bit graphic flames.
Sitting back, he continued, "So, Birdboy's up on top of the storage shed, and throws his arms out and starts yelling out Raven's magic words!"

Beast Boy could hardly contain himself, "DUDE, no way!" as he likewise finished up his turn in flames.

"And on top of that, he just stands there looking all confused like something's suppose to happen! What up with that?"

Beast Boy was rolling on the floor now, "Oh man, that is like totally awesome! I wish coulda seen that!"

------------------------------------------------------------------------ -------------------

"..And so all in all, this went off pretty well... with one minor hiccup, Robin!" said Wonder Girl to the assembled Titans.

Soft chuckling filled the room as Beast Boy spoke, "Hey Rob, my advice is to start with card tricks and ball & cup, then work up to the hard stuff."

Robin smiled and took the ribbing graciously, "Yeah yeah, a bit of a brain fart on my part, but we still worked really well given to crappy conditions today. Now, I know you've all heard me give this speech before, but TRAINING IS EVERYTHING. Today could have just as easily gone really bad for us, so I think we need to sharpen up our teamwork in extraordinary situations. Wonder Girl and I are going to go over some simulator programs this evening so we can be better prepared in the future. Heavy rain, snow, pitch blackness, anything we can think of. If you guys have anything to contribute, toss in."

Beast Boy perked up, "How about having to fight off an army of hotties at the mall?" he said with an innocent grin.

"Hallucinations don't count, BB. Let's stick to 'possible' scenarios for the moment. Alright Titans, dismissed!" smiled Wonder Girl.

------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---------------------

After the breif, the Titans were pretty much left to their own devices. Back in her room, Raven set about straightening up and choosing incense for her evening rituals. Sighing, she began to regret the routine she'd set for herself. Before, her inner struggles and meditations took up almost all her free time. Now, more at ease, she would much prefer to spend time with the other Titans... and one in perticular.

Her heart nearly stopped as she heard a knock at her door. Grinning, her mind raced through a thousand hopeful scenarios and she rushed to the mirror for a quick look over. Taking a deep breath she opened to door to reveal... Starfire.

"Greetings Raven. I have not come at a bad time, have I? I do not wish to interrupt your meditations." her friend asked shyly.

While slightly (okay more than slightly) disappointed that her visitor wasn't Robin, she found herself oddly delighted to see Starfire. "No, not at all. Come in, you know I always have time for you." she said, trying to seem more relaxed.

"I am glad to see you looking so well after today's battle. You fought especially well, I thought." said Starfire as she looked about the room nervously.

"Oh, I'll probably catch a cold from all that rain, but at least we got them. How are you feeling, Star?" she asked as she sat back on her bed.

"I am well, thank you. Perhaps this evening we might venture to the mall."

"That's weird, I was going to ask if you and Wonder Girl wanted to hit the mall this evening too. Great minds think alike, I guess." grinned Raven.

Starfire tried so hard not to stare at Raven, that she was staring, "You... you wish to go to the mall with us? Without coercion?"

Raven furrowed her brow, "Have I really been that bad about going out with you two?"

Odd, she thought, she knew she'd been reluctant, but hadn't remember putting up that much of a fuss.

The first starbolt caught her squarely in the chest, throwing her over the bed and to the far wall and she just barely got her shield up before the second one impacted.

"What in the..." she gasped, trying to ignore the pain.

Looking up she saw the fire burning in Starfire's green eyes as she growled, "Who ARE you and what have you done with my friend Raven!"
