Birds Of A Feather...

Part Three- Double Vision

by King Cheetah

I don't own any of these characters,
so don't rub it in...

Kinda sorta Robin/Raven pairing; you've been warned....

----------------------------------------------------------------------
By evening time the weather outside had descended into full-scale thunderstorms which entertained even as they annoyed. All were assembled in the commons of Titan's Tower, piled on every available inch of furniture, save for Robin and Raven who stood facing their comrades. Amidst her friends, Starfire fidgeted uncomfortably, as the events of the late afternoon had brought this meeting on. A tremendous clap of thunder rattled the very foundations of the building and signaled the meeting to order.

Taking a deep breath, Robin began, "Okay, there's been some talk amongst you concerning Raven and me, and our behavior of late. Some of you have noticed some... changes in us. I take full blame for this. I should have..."

Raven cut him off in mid-sentense, "No, it was both of us. This is both our faults." and she looked to Robin, then back to their friends.

"Um, okay. We both screwed up. The thing is... y'see, Raven and I had a little accident..." he said, not exactly sure how to start their explanation.

Wide eyed, Wonder Girl jumped to her feet, "Oh my God Raven, A-are you Pregnant?!"

Raven narrowed her gaze and let out a loud sign, "Ugh! Sit DOWN Wonder Bra, it's not that kind of accident! Let him finish!"

Unable to contain herself, Starfire leapt to her feet and ran forward, grasping Raven's hand, "Friend Raven, please let me say again how sorry I am for my actions today! I truly am, and... and Cyborg assures me that it should take no longer than a week to rebuild your sleeping quarters. And I am likewise sure that many of your personal possessions can be easily replaced as well..."

Sighing, she gently squeezed her friends hand and smiled, "Star, please... it's okay. Really. Just have a seat and let us explain all this to everyone."

"You... you are sure that all is well between us?" she asked, looking on the verge of tears.

"Yes Kori," she smiled, "We're good. Now, go have a seat." Reluctantly, she did as she was asked.

Sighing, she looked at Robin, who smiled and gave her a little nod. Taking a deep breath, she began, "Okay folks, here's what happened..."

------------------------------------------------------------------------ -------------------------

Licking her lips, Raven looked out at her friends and waited. The tale was told, and all they could do now was await the verdict. Nothing was said at first, as everyone thought over the situation. Finally, Kid Flash spoke, " So... hold on. So you two can read each others minds, is that it?"

"Oh dude, weren't you listening?" said Beast Boy, somewhat annoyed, "They just share the same memories. Pay attention." He turned his attention to Robin, "So, this explains your little magic show for Cinderblock. Is this sort of thing gonna keep happening?"

"Probably for a while. I doubt it's always going to be a problem," said Raven, "But remember, I have to sort out whether something I'm remembering is from his past or mine. Everything he's ever seen is in my head and visa versa."

"Hold on," grinned Beast Boy, "Robin knows everything you know?"

"Uh....yeah" said Raven cocking an eyebrow.

"Dude! Robin's our inside man to the girls locker room! SWEET! Any interesting tattoos or piercings we should know about?" he said with a sly grin.

"Beast Boy!" raged Wonder Girl.

"D-do you mean that Robin has seen us unclothed? And wet?" stammered Starfire as her blushing deepened.

"Cool your jets guys. Remember, this cuts both ways. Raven has ALL of my memories too." smiled Robin as Beast Boys face sank.

"Say, that's right," grinned Wonder Girl, "Tell me Raven, does Beast Boy live up to his name?"

"Not funny, Donna! Tell her, Raven; think stallion. I should be pulling a beer wagon!" pleaded BB.

"I... I am unsure what it is we are speaking of now." said Starfire shyly until Wonder Girl leaned over and whispered in her ear. Wide eyed, she squealed, "EEEEEK! I do not wish to know of these things!"

Sighing, Raven said, "Okay, I'm officially creeped out by this conversation."

"HEY!" shouted Kid Flash, then softening his tone as the room quieted, "Taking this back to business, do you two think you're up to fighting?"

To everyone's shock, Robin took WAY too long to answer, but finally he said softly, "No. No I don't. That's part of why I wanted to step up the training schedule. I... WE need to learn to separate our past experiences and instincts. I... I think it would be best if Raven and I went on detached duty until we can get our heads together. We'll man HQ on situation, or backup on scene. But until we're both 100%, we're not a asset to this team. Probably just the opposite."

The room fell silent. Not just a lack of conversation, but that complete lack of all sound that rings in your ears. Finally, Robin broke the silence, "So anyway, it's really been a long day, so if you all don't mind, I'm going pack it in. We can talk about this more in the morning."

"Hold on a minute," growled Wonder Girl, "What the heck happened this afternoon?" Beside her, Starfire buried her face into her hands.

"Oh, that... um, well... Star had been picking up on the changes in us before the rest of you did..." said Raven matter of factly, "...and suspected that I was... not what I seemed..."

"But you COULD have been my sister! She is very clever with disguises!" blurted out Starfire, who quickly wished she'd stayed quiet.

"uh...yeah. Be that as it may, as Star and I... um, 'worked this out', my room got a little... messed up. But neither of us got hurt, and that's all that matters."

"A little messed up?! Girl, that's AT LEAST two weeks of construction time and then... there's... what?" Cyborg's voice trailed off as he noticed Raven's frantic gestures to be quiet. Furrowing his brow, he caught sight of Starfire out of the corner of his good eye, again on the verge of tears. "Uh... that is to say, um... it... might not need much more than a good coat of paint and some new curtains. Shouldn't be too much trouble."

"Friend Cyborg, "she whimpered, "I have blown holes in the side of our tower. I do not believe that just painting is sufficient to repair the damage I have caused...."

"Way t'go, dude. You out to get Cinderblock's job?" muttered Beast Boy.

------------------------------------------------------------------------ -------------------------

Robin took his time walking back to his room. Post their blending of minds, he found himself more introspective. The walking time fealt good. It was partially to think and partially...

"Hey, wait up." called Raven softly. He was all smiles as she caught up and matched his pace. "Well, feel better now that it's out in the open?" she asked, taking his arm in hers.

"Yeah, actually, I do. I guess we should have done that right away. You figured out where you were going to stay til we rebuild your room? I heard Starfire offer to put you up."

"Hey, we have plenty of spare rooms in the tower. I'll just pick a new room and start fresh. You wanna help?" she asked softly, "I'll need help getting my bed in there."

He was surprised, "Okay, but don't you want your old room back? You had a GREAT view of the bay."

She walked in silence for a while before answering, "The old room is where the old me lived. I don't see much point in staying there. Honestly, this morning I was thinking about redecorating, so I guess I owe Kori some thanks." then more silence for a while.

"So.... what you're saying is... you just need someplace to sleep... tonight, right?" he asked without looking at her.

"Just for tonight..." she whispered, and squeezed his arm tight. They'd come to his bedroom door and stopped. He said nothing, but slowly moved her around to his front and embraced her, resting his chin on the top of her head. He closed his eyes as she hugged him, nuzzling her face against his neck. He held her for what seemed an eternity before he said softly, "You better get going. Starfire's room is in the other end of the tower. That's quite a walk...." She pulled back from him slightly, a look of shock on her face, which faded into a soft smile.

"You sure?" she asked.

"Raven, I want this WAY too badly, which is when my warning flags start going up. If you set foot in this room tonight... something's gonna happen that I think we both might regret later. I don't fully understand my feelings for you right now, so I think we need to move slowly. Okay?" She hugged him again and nodded. He let his hand lightly trace up her spine and come to rest behind her head.

Sighing, he stroked her hair and thought, I don't want to hurt you, ever.

"Robin?" she asked, almost in a whisper.

"Yeah?"

"This something that was going to happen... was it going to be one long something, or a lot of little something's with breaks in between?"
