Chapter 1~Beginning of the Oath!

~~~Garrett Greystone wondered how the hell he had gotten into this situation to begin with? It was pretty much a game between his two older brothers Jason and Peter. He was the youngest of his fathers brood. His father was King Rusfus Greystone of castle Castle Greystone. His father was powerfull and feared but fair. But still enemies learked near by. His father had remarried about a few years ago and had a child with her named Izabelle, her mother did not survive the birth. Anyhow. The whole thing started when his brothers Peter and Jason had gotten him in trouble with his father, daring him to go into his fathers inner sanctum. His father had caught him and really blistered his butt. Since then he swore he would get vengence against his kin. The time came when he had heard of the gaurds talking about the forest not far from the castle. It was called the Forbidden Forest and no one ever ventured in there for the fact that a wild pack of wolves dwelled there. There was stories of whole clans of gypsies having been killed while staying in the forest. No mortals had ever dared to go into the woods in daylight much alone in nightime. T0 go in there was suicide. Thats how all things really began.

~~~Garrett could not even remember what had happened. All he knew was that he and his two older brothers were in the Forbidden Forest and so far they had not met with anything other than a bunny and an owl. Garrett started to get bold and thought that the myths of the pack of ravenous wolves were false. He chatted and teased his brothers merceilesslously. Soon they came upon a clearing. In this emerald clearing laid the thing they had sought the kidney shaped emerald pool. It was basicly a kidney shaped pond. But if you dared to swim in it it would suck you donw into a huge rip and whirlpool of water, draggin you to the bottom. It was said that all who ventured in dissappeared without a trace. at the junctior of the pool where the little slope of the kidney shape made a groove stood a boulder. But it was no ordinary bolder. The part that sunk into the pond was sheer and straight, but the part that was stickng out of the ground and toward the clearing was steepled. It was like someone had carved stones into the boulder and made steps. They were huge and large but they could get ya to the top and leave you overlooking the pool and clearing with a wonderfull view.

~~~As he had thought, Garrett had dared his brothers to go into the Forbidden Forest. This was one of the kings, thier fathers greatest rules. He had dared them and thought he had won. If they went then thier father would find out and punish them if they refused they would be cowards and he would win again. He thought it full proof, till they had countered and dared him to go with them. Not wanting to look like a coward he had gone. Oh how he regretted that now.

~~~Garrett had thought they were home free as they had made thier way through the forest and came across no interference. He had gotten bold and thought nothing could make him cower in fear. Then he and his brothers had come across the clearing and faced the kidney shaped pool they all thought enchanted. Once they reached the clearing they heard a low human like growl.

"What are ye doing here lads??? Tis not a place for ye to be at the moment." came the gruff peasant voice of a man. The three princes' looked and saw the large man resting aginst the huge boulder that led into the pond. His leg was at a wierd angle and his right arm seemed to be useless. At his side was a large axe that said he was a woodsman. What surprised them the most was the young stringy haired girl that hung to his side. She was small, her raven black hair stringy and oily, her small body thin and pathetic, wrapped in rags and cloth shoes.

"And what about the babe?" asked Garrett, feeling his pride come to the fore and his regalness sprouting.

"What babe?" the woodman asked with concern.

"The child girl at your side." Garrett replied with a snort. The woodsman smiled then looked sad.

"Tis true..she should not be here..but when I did not come home she came looking for me..a tree I had been chopping chose to fall the wrong way and came crashin upon me before I knew what was happinin...I broke me arm and me leg..I could not crawl out before dusk..me daughter worrid..she came and now she is here with me and ye..although I wish with all me heart she was not here...for this forest will not allow us to leave here alive." the woodsman replied and looked around him with worry.

~~~Garrett opened his mouth to say something sarcastic but just then a howl rang out in the air and the hairs of all thier knecks stood up on end. They looked around and soon saw the dark forest come alive with the orbs of yellow eyes as wolves surrounded the clearing.

"Go up thee steps my lads...take me sweet daughter Trisha with yee..if I can not hold the beasties off then jump..best to be swallowed by the depth of the pool then to be torn to shreds." came the voice of the woodsman as he ushered them up along the seemingy human carved steps upon the huge boulder. Once the had reachd the platou of the huge rock they looked down at the swirling pool. they had not seen the whirl pool from the shore so it was a shock. They looked back and watched with facination and fear as the woodsman protected them.

~~~Garrett watched as the woodsman hacked any wolf or beastie that came close to the boulder. Garrett couldnt remember anyone as skilled and brave as this man. Wolves came and crouched in the clearing, thier fur bristled and thier eyes shone yellow and thier muzzles dripped with saliva. But the woodsman laughed heartily and taunted them.

"Come get me beasties...I will fill your belly for sure..but with lead and not me own flesh." he taunted as one wolf and another charged him and he hacked them donw to pieces with his good arm.

~~~He did this alot and ther clearing was littered with the blood and body parts of wolves. Then the wolves got smart. Garrett watched as the wolves moved in groups. One groupd would go in and attack the injured woodsman and while he was distracted the other group would swoop in. Eventually the woodsman was sporting huge bite marks and gashes along his entire body as blood gushed out of his body. Not really realizing it Garrett held Tessa in his arms as she shuddered aginst him. She did not cry out loud or make a sound, but he could feel her shivers and feel the wetness of her tears, although he heard no sound. He was amazed by this. Most females, especially younger ones often screamed and cried hystericly, this girl cried but all you could see where tears and if lucky feel the shivers that ran up her body. Other than that she was silent.

~~~When things began to seem hopless as the woodsman began to falter, dropping to his knees and sweating profusly, the three princes's looked at one another, givng each other a silent agreemant. They were going to jump into the pool. It would not be long since the woodsman failed and the beasties would climb the so called steps and get them. They would rather drown. Garrett looked at Tessa and she looked at him. He smiled and looked at her with eyes that told him what they planned. She smiled and nodded, telling him she understood. He grabbed her hand and squeezed it and whispered..."I'll always take care of you Tessa" he said as he grpped her hand ready to jump in, just then they heard noises.

~~~Soon the clearing was filled with the noises of clanking steel and metal. They watched in awe as Knights came rushing into the forest and started to shoot arrows and use swords to chase and kill the wolves. When they had showed up the woodsman had sighed and slunked agaiinst the boulder and smiled. He was bleeding and terribly wounded. There was no way for him to survive.

~~~Seeing thier father and king between all those knights in armor the boys ran exidedly to thier father, only to be stopped by his hard cold stare.

"Commander? Take my sons back to the castle and confine them to thier rooms." said the king as he looked away from them, not even looking at them. The last thing Garrett saw was his father approache the woodsman and his daughter who sat next to him with tears in her eyes but soundless. Later her learned that his father had given the girls father, the woodsman a blood oath.

~~~Blood Oaths were rare, given only when a king or a prince wanted to prove his word. Most times people accepted the word of a king or prince. It was rare to give a blood oath. But that night Garrett found out that his father had given the woodsman his blood oath that his third son would marry the only female child of the woodsman. Tessa. Garrett was arranged to marry Tessa as a blood vow to her father that she would be forever protected and given the status of royalty, even if third princess. The status would insure her of being treated right in case of invasion and her status would garuntee her privalegess as said princes. At the time Garrett didnt think much of it. To him this was natural. This was the life of a prince and he thought it would be cool to marry the child of the woodsman who had valiantly saved his life and the life of his brothers. Little did he know that when he grew up that his feelings would change and the thouht of being betrothed would definitly not agree with his life.

A/N~Okies here is the first chap of my first ever original fic. Truthfully Ive always wanted to be a writer and this story was my first inspiration, although I am redoing it to fit the peramiters of this site. I dont think it would be good to write a full novel and take up much space, althoug this fic will take up some space since I know it is long..please let me know what ya think..k? would love feed back..huggles and smiles Mija..:-)
