Chapter 4~Trouble!

~~~It was the day before Tessa's 17th birthday when they came. The head mother had sensed something quite off about the group of men who had come to ask for lodging. One was a nobleman, who the head mother had not heard of before, the others his retainers and Knights. But no matter how much the head mother wanted to push aside the feelings of wrongness she couldnt. So as she had room prepared for the group, she confided in Tessa and the nuns. Tessa was to hide in the secret chamber connected to her room, where all her possesions that the king sent her were stored in case of invasion. Tessa had agreed of course, since it was not unnatural for her to hid when visitors came. But the tone of worry in the head mothers voice bothered her. But just before the head mother left her she gave Tessa once last warning.

"No matter what you hear or think, stay hidden, do not come out Tessa till I or one of the elder Sisters comes to get you..do ye promise me Tessa?" asked the head mother.

"Yes head mother." Tessa promised, although inside she wished she didnt have to make that promise. She didnt want to see any harm come to the ones who had taken care of her since she was a child. She loved them and didnt want any harm to come to them, but a promise was a promise and she would obey.

~~~That night had been the hardest and fearfull of Tessa's life. She had heard screaming and then a lot of scuffling and booted feet as armored men scurried through the convent looking and tearing through the convent. Tessa had cried as she huddled in her dark little hidding place as she heard the screams of the women who were nun and her family. She came close to fainting when she heard noises from her own room, as someone ransacked the place looking for something, or just plain wrecking things at will. She didnt know what to do and prayed with all her might that things would be alright. She didnt know how long she had stayed in that small room hiding. But finally the secret door opened to reveal the head mother. Tessa had cried in relief and hugged her with all her might.

"Do not fret child..we are well..a bit mishandled but well..come...the King will arrive shortly...we needs get prepared for him..he must know of this attack upon us."

"But why Head Mother? Who were they and what did they want?" Tessa asked fearfully, although gratefull to know that all of her family were safe.

"The came looking for something Tessa..something they wanted dearly." replied the head mother sadly.

"What could they possibley want?? this is a convent." Tessa replied with confussion.

"They were loooking for thee child..but do not worry they did not actually know for certain if ye were here, and they did not find ye...God was with us child..now we must hurry..the King should be arriving soon." came the head mothers response and Tessa was in shock. Her? Someone had come looking for her?? Why? and after all that had happened why was the head mother so calm and serene? Tessa was scared out of her mind.

~~~There was much ado when the King and a few of his most trusted men arrived. King Rufus had a habit of visiting Tessa upon her birthdays..he liked to lavish gifts upon her and see how she had changed if any within the year. Of course no one at the castle knew of these visits. He always said he had a meeting or such to go to. The only thing that ever really got any looks or worry or concern, was when he refused to take his most loyal, most bravest and most favored of Knights. But Rufus could not have his very own son Prince Garrett accompining him to the convent now could he? So he took those he trusted, those that knew of his trips and were loyal beyond doubt.

~~~This year Rufus was greatly troubled. He knew for years now that the rumor of Garrett being betrothed to a peasant girl was floating about. He had heard rumors of the said blood oath as well, but since things were find and nothing had come of it, only rumors for the spoiled rich to feed upon, he didnt think much of it. Till now. The head mother had informed him of the past days events and was glad that not only were the nuns safe but so was Tessa and her identity. But things needed to be changed. It was apperantly dangerous for her to be here.

"You will be coming with me Tessa." King Rufus told her point blank. Tessa blinked a bit confussed.

"Of course...But where are we going Sire?" she asked.

"We are going to Castle Greystoke..it is no apperant that it is dangerous to leave you here any longer."

"I would love to go Sire..but what of your promise?? your wishes for me not to see Garrett or he I till our wedding?" she asked.

"Things have changed...although I do not wish for Garrett to see ye, or ye him till your wedding..It looks like I have no choice I will not leave you here..It would put you and the nuns in danger as well as my kingdome of anywere to get thier hands upon ye." stated the King.

"Sire?? is there anyway for me to be at the castle, yet not have Garrett or others know who I am?? I mean that I am the one betrothed to Prince Garrett?" Tessa asked. She was excited that she would finally get to see Garrett in person and get to know him, but a thought had accured. If he knew who she was then she might never get to know the REAL him..he would no doubt be different around her if he knew who she was. Besides she wanted to get a feel for the castle and its occupants without them knowing who she was.

"What do you mean Tessa?" asked the great King. Tessa explained.

"I will not have you acting as a servant or maid Tessa...will only lessen your place as Garretts future wife when the time comes." the King replied, after Tessa had offered to serve as one of the castle servants or a lady in waiting to Princess Izabelle, the kings youngest daughter, sister to Garrett. She was only fifteen at the moment.

"Then can I not be someone else?? daughter to a friend from a far off land?? a noble woman yet not high in ranking? Just an ordanary lady?" asked Tessa. She really did not want others to know of who she was just yet. It was frightening to know she would see Garrett for the first time in 10 years, but she wanted so badly to get to know him first. To see what he was like without the knowledge of them being betrothed. Things like that could cause a person to act diffrently and she wanted to see the real him. And see how other acted as well. She wanted to go into this marriage with her eyes open and not full of hopes and dreams that might be shattered later.

"I suppose that can be arranged...are you sure this is what you wish Tessa?...things would be easier on you if all knew of who you were and who you will become...it might be harder for you this way..and you may not like what your see or learn as a guest, instead of future princess of Castle Greystoke." The King told her. Tessa smiled.

"I am sure your highness...besides...I would rather learn things this way than the other...I would not want to be blind when I marry...I would want to know my allies and enemies before hand." she smiled and Rufus couldnt help but smile in return. She was bright and very beautifull. She would do well for Garrett, if that thick skull of his would ever learn to love again. And it would definitly help keep her safe at the castle. So he agreed. He wondered vaguely how Tessa might shake up his kingdome. He had a feeling she would definitly shake it up and turn it a bit upside down, but for the better. Defenitly the better he mused.

A/N~Ok short chap yes I know but its a start to the beginning of her and Garretts relationship so to speak lol..anyhow let me know what ya think k?? ty ty huggles and smiles Mija..:-) btw to HJ, sorry gf but no dragons and such in this..trying to keep it sort of real, although its kind of redundant huh?? seeing that its made up?? hehe anyway no dragons sowwy...huggles Mija..:-)..and to Sly..who always reviews ALL my fics..luvs ya girl..huggles.
