Fire and Ice: A Prince Zuko and Sokka Fansite...Catch-22...
This is it guys, THE LAST CHAPTER TO CATCH-22!
(Begin)
Zuko panted heavily and began to growl as he slowly lowered Sokka’s body and
turned to Aang who was still sobbing over Katara. A burst of steam left Zuko’s
nostrils as he breathed one last time before speaking.
“AVATAR! You will PAY dearly for this, don’t give me anything about how we’re
even because of that retched wench’s death, she was merely your girlfriend,
somebody you cared for, somebody you dated for no more then a few months,
somebody who you may have left when all of this was older. She could have easily
killed Sokka, she nearly did but she couldn’t. This is war, she should have
learned, but now they are both dead. You’re summer fling may be dead Avatar, but
my year long husband and two year long love is dead, you tell me Avatar, that
we’re even.” Zuko said. Aang looked up at Zuko as he lowered Katara gently and
stood up.
“Very well Zuko, we aren’t even. I may owe you the life of somebody who may
never be replaced, but you owe the lives of all of them! Not just them either,
all the people who died in the Fire Nation prisons, trading towns, EVERYWHERE!
You and your nation have killed enough lives to make up for one person who’s
close to you’s life. Then to top it all off, you killed my friends and
girlfriend,” Aang retorted.
“I had friends in the Fire Nation, many of which you murdered Avatar… the prison
warden, he was a friend of mine, he was found in the ocean, drowned. I know that
among the numbers lying dead now, many were my friends… I saw you kill my uncle;
my only blood relative, how do you think that makes me feel? As for civilians,
this is a war, just because the Fire Nation is winning, does not mean that we
have had no civilian and military casualties,”
“It doesn’t matter who has lost more, we both lost the one’s who we loved the
most, so the only thing left to lose now is our lives, which one will it be?”
Aang said.
Zuko was about to raise his arm but caught glimpse of Sokka’s bloody boomerang.
He leaned down and picked it up, then put his hand to the hand on Sokka’s chest,
moistening his hand with his own tears. He put one tear-coated finger to the top
of the boomerang and slid it down before raising his arms into battle position.
Aang looked at him curiously but raised his arms into battle position aswell.
There was a moment they stood like that, firebenders and earthbenders had all
stopped fighting and turned to watch after they saw the Avatar kill Sokka.
In perfect unison, the two shot fire at eachother, it circled in-between them
before turning to no more then smoke.
Zuko jumped back and shot fire lower down. Aang used waterbending to stop it,
although he got a lot of steam in his face.
The Avatar lifted the earth beneath them and shot the boulder towards Zuko who
jumped over it and shot a fireball at Aang.
Aang twirled his staff around and blocked the fireball, although his glider was
scorched in the process. Aang threw it aside and sent a blast of wind towards
the Fire Lord.
Zuko dodged and inhaled heavily before shooting a powerful blast of fire at Aang
who barely blocked it with water, once again getting steam in his face, this
time scorching him slightly.
They continued on like this for nearly an hour, the two nations continued to
watch, unable to fight with THE fight happening.
Zuko and Aang were breathing heavily but still managed to continue bending,
although it had gotten much weaker. Aang shot a ball of air towards Zuko again.
Zuko breathed in and raised his arms to firebend. But before he did, he noticed
the boomerang. Zuko put in his last ounce of strength to form a forceful push of
fire, along with Sokka’s weapon.
The force of the fire combined with the already strong force of the air shot
back at Aang. Aang managed to stop the fire with his waterbending and air with
his airbending, but the force still on the boomerang threw it forward into
Aang’s chest.
Aang choked as he grasped his chest, it had gone right to his heart. Aang looked
up shocked at Zuko who wasn’t even smiling at the victory as Aang fell to his
knees.
“You win Zuko, you win the war between the Nations, but you didn’t win the lost
war,” Aang said, almost smiling as he fell and used his remaining strength to
pull himself to Katara’s body before he died.
“Lord Zuko! You did it! You won the war!” the firebenders congratulated him.
“Which war?” Zuko asked lowly and shoved past them to the still living Commander
Zhao.
“Commander, get me a quill and paper,” he said lowly. Zhao looked at him
curiously but left to retrieve the items. Zuko limped to Sokka’s body and picked
him up, refusing the help of the firebenders. He grabbed the wrists of Aang and
Katara and lugged them behind him.
“Here you are Zuko,” Zhao said as he returned. Zuko managed to lift Sokka’s body
onto his shoulder for a moment, dropped Aang and Katara, and wrote in a very
messy writing.
“I, Lord Zuko, decree that from this day forward, I am resigning my position as
Lord of the Fire Nation. In addition, I am giving Commander Zhao, one of the few
survivors of the war, the position of Lord of the Fire Nation. If asked why, say
that I lost the war.
Zuko”
“Give this to the Council. Do a good job, this nation deserves a strong leader,
especially one who was in the Four Nation War,” Zuko said and walked off with
the three bodies. Zhao watched before looking down at the paper. He read it and
was utterly shocked. Why would Lo--- Zuko just resign? Surely it can’t be
because of the Highness’ death? Lord Ozar merely went to her funeral when his
mistress died, didn’t cry in the slightest. He didn’t lose the war either… I
don’t get that guy, he should have just stayed banished…actually, he let me be
Lord so perhaps not.
“You win Zuko, you win the war between the Nations, but you didn’t win the lost
war,”
“I never lose a war,” Zuko said as he stood at the edge of a cliff, leading down
into the mystical blue ocean where the full moon reflected.
Zuko reached into the back of his belt and pulled out Sokka’s boomerang, still
blood-stained, a bit of Katara’s, a bit of Aang’s, a bit of Sokka’s, and a few
remaining tears that were Zuko’s.
Zuko put the bodies down and ran his finger under their eyes, collecting the
tears that ran from them before death and put them on the boomerang aswell.
The ex-Lord ran the blade over his finger and let the blood drip onto it aswell.
He knew the firebenders would try to stop him from continuing. He raised his
hand and set the grass into flames, making it near impossible for anybody to
pass. He heard a firebender running up the hill.
“Even if you win a war, sometimes it is better to lose,” Zuko said as he took
the chains and put them around Sokka, Aang, Katara, and his own ankles, it ended
with a cannonball.
“Aang, you said that it doesn’t matter who has lost more, we both lost the one’s
who we loved the most, so the only thing left to lose now is our lives, which
one will it be? I may be second to you in this war, but this is a war that there
can be more then one victor,” Zuko said as he stood at the edge, Aang and
Katara’s bodies were hoisted over his shoulder while Sokka’s was in his arms.
Zuko slowly rolled the heavy black sphere off the edge with his foot. He watched
as it began to fall and when he felt the tug at his ankles pull him off the
edge. He closed his eyes and held Sokka’s body tighter as he felt the cold-water
surround him and the bodies.
He opened his good eye briefly and looked up, he could still see the moon, but
it kept getting smaller. Zuko looked down at Sokka and saw the still slight
smile on his face from when he died. Zuko smiled lightly and looked up once
more. The moon was gone but he could still see Sokka.
That was the last thing he ever saw.
(End)
Iras: (crying) Zuko’s dead! Sokka’s dead! Haru’s dead! If Jet was in this
fiction, he’d be dead! Iroh’s dead… WOOHOO! Suki’s dead (does dance)! Appa’s
dead! (crying again) Momo’s dead! Ozar’s dead! Bumi’s dead! Katara’s dead! The
Warden is dead! The only freaking person who isn’t freaking dead is Zhao…
Dracken: This is a flash of the future:
Zhao takes over as Lord of the Fire Nation.
. Nobody ever learned what happened to them.
.. The war killed off so much of the nations, that the Water Nation and Earth
Nation became one large nation.
... Eventually, Zhao faced the facts and joined the other two nations.
... In due time, continents were formed, countries were formed, the Americas
were discovered and bending became nothing more then a legend.
