Ok...here's an update! I better get some reviews on this. I have no idea if you guys even like it!
Count Makraim came out to meet Matsey. She had prepared her horse, a beautiful white mustang and his second best horse a chestnut quarter horse. Matsey looked up at her master's approach a little apprehensively. He looked really angry. What was going through his mind?
Going through his mind at the moment was a barrage of questions. Why did she run? Did she not trust his protection? had he not shown her she was perfectly safe? Then his mind took a turn similar to Matsey's previous thoughts. Who tipped off Sir Garot? He hated to think any one of his servants turned spy against him. That thought made him uneasy. He approached Matsey and realized she was standing there looking wide eyed at him.
“Let's go.” It was a simple statement but it made Matsey react with a blinding speed.. She was upon the horse and urging it in the direction Elise would have gone. WOrry for Elise's safety and fear of displeasing her master guiding her actions. Makraim reacted with surprise at first but followed quickly after her.
The day was getting later and Elise because painfully aware her stomach was trying to get her attention. She would have to stop to rest and eat in the next town. She knew there was a small village just ahead. She would have to appeal to someone to let her stay to rest and eat. This didn't seem to weigh well on her mind seeing as she had no money and was to be of little use to any villager. She came out of her musings when she realized she was in the village. There was a stable and tavern. Starting to think out a plan she approached a stable hand and began her story, leaving out her name and the fact she was being hunted.
The stable hand was quite taken with the girl in front of him. She approached him like a calming rain and her voice danced in his mind like dew drops on soft petals. He hadn't registered a word she said until she stopped and looked at him expectantly. There was an uncomfortable silence for a moment while the boy tried to gather any information he might have heard her say. Elise was discouraged by his silence and blank staring and so she made a move to politely excuse herself and leave.
“I'm sorry to have bothered you. Since it seems you will not be able to help me and my horse I must seek help elsewhere.”
Finding his voice at last he replied “My lady please don't leave. Let me go and find Delfax, the man who owns this place. I'll see if he can help you.”
“I do not wish to impose on you. I was too forward.”
“It is a pleasure to help someone such as beautiful as yourself.” He blushed at the words that came out of his mouth and hurried off before looking up at her reaction.
Elise stood there for a few moments in stunned silence. She turned to her horse and said “Hear that, he must be blind!” a slight blush crossed her cheeks none the less. The boy returned within a few minutes with an older man. He looked haggard and worn out. His eyes bore marks of long worked days and sleepless or restless nights. His clothes looked will worn. Only his hair looked unruffled. Delfax approached Elise slowly.
“I have room for paying customers only” he bit out.
“Oh. I'm sorry sir. Can I be of help to you to pay for me and my horse for one night?”
“I have a stable hand here as you can see, I also have a full inside staff. What could you provide for me?”
“Well sir, your dinner guests are ill-entertained. I am well practiced in singing and dancing,”
Delfax turned to his stable boy, “Diere put her horse up for the night. Then you may join us inside for a show.” He then turned to Elise “Girl get to the stage and perform.”
Elise walked into the tavern. Inside was surprisingly nice. The tables were wooden and evenly set apart.. The stage was actually center room instead of the back. This allowed everyone a good view and allowed for better musical and dance numbers. It was bright and cheerful inside. Elise took center stage. Immediately she had everyone's attention. She stood bathed in light, center of the stage, and began to sing. The song was light and her voice fluttered like tiny little butterflies. Then she began to dance, Everyone watched her as if in a trance. She was graceful and nimble. A goddess could not compare to her. When she finished the room was silent. Every gaze was upon her. She began to leave the stage when there was a deafening noise. She stopped and looked around her. There wasn't one person protesting her exit. So with encouragement from Delfax and Diere she continued singing and dancing. Pausing only for food and drink.
Count Makraim and Matsey were urging their horses at an ungodly pace. Matsey slowed her horse and urged the count to do the same. He grudgingly did so. Makraim looked around him and realized he would have to stop with Matsey and rest for the night. They were coming up to a small village that they could rest at. He was well received in this village. People had heard of him and his work with the king. They told him of a tavern nearby where he could get food and a night's stay. So without stopping to talk to anyone they approached said tavern. As they neared they could hear the most beautiful voice. It calmed Markaim's frayed nerves. Before they could get nearer, the sound ceased. They approached the stables and saw a stable boy coming toward them. He took their horses and pointed them inside.
Once inside they took a look around. A man came up to them to sit them down and bring them dinner. The customers in the place seemed to be in a trance and looking to the stage. When their food was brought to them, Makraim inquired as to the odd behavior of the patrons. The man simply replied “It's her.” Makraim and Matsey returned their eyes to the stage to have them almost pop from their sockets. Up on stage they saw Elise. She began to sing and everything went silent. Count Makraim was transfixed. When she began dancing his eyes moved with her flexible body. She was breathtaking.
