Count Makraim woke the two girls at dawn. He hurried them along wishing to reach Rumox by evening. Most of their journey was silent on Makraim's part. The two girls chatted lively behind him. He however was struggling with his feelings. He did not want to admit it but Elise was stirring something deep inside him. Was it love? No, he wasn't sure what it was but it was deeper than love. What was this? His thought were stopped by silence. He looked behind him to see both girls staring at him. “Ladies what have I done this time?”
“You were mumbling” stated Matsey.
“The village is nearby. I can feel her.”
Matsey and Count Makraim turned to Elise with a look of awe. She had her eyes closed as if trying to concentrate on something. Then she opened them and urged her horse to a high gallop. makraim and matsey recovered their shock and followed her. They rode into town and went to the first stable. Elise dismounted first. She brought her horse up and inquired about her aunt explaining she was her niece and they would be paid later. The boy took in the horses and pointed down the street. Elise knew what house it was. She could feel everything around her. Makraim and matsey followed her up to a huge ancient looking house. I twas awe inspiring, built like a stone fortress. There were tall windows with etched glass in them. The door was a dark oak and had a beautiful animal carved on it. Elise touched the animal and sighed. She knocked and waited. Count makraim and matsey joined her. A woman answered the door and hurried them inside. Once inside Matsey and makraim were floored. Everywhere there were shining crystals illuminating everything. many ancient marking were on the walls. In the middle of the room sat a woman. Elise ran to her and embraced her as her aunt. Matsey took in her appearance. She had golden hair that lay untamed around her shoulders. Her eyes were grey and the only thing that betrayed her old age. Her skin was smooth and not wrinkled and her hands were steady and not shaky.
“Welcome to my home. My dear niece has told me about you both. However, she did not tell me she was traveling with a count and a great great grand daughter of an enchantress.”
Makraim and matsey looked at her astonished. They were speechless as to her knowledge.
“Ah, and I see you know nothing of me either. Well Earok, you told them little. Very well. It will wait no longer. You are hunted and he will close in eventually. We have time thought. Time enough for my dear niece to gather herself and tell you two her story. Then it is off to King Bilmarath. Earok, Queen Eri needs you.”
Makraim and Matsey were completely confused now. But only Count Markraim would voice it. “My lady, I am so confused as to your tongue. You live in this ancient house, look no older than thirty, and are calling to Earok. Who is this Earok? And what is your story?”
“Alas my dear count your questions need to be asked to my niece. But as far as who Earok is, she stands in front of you.”
This time Matsey spoke. “I am confused my lady, I see only you.”
“Then you are missing someone!” said the aunt.
At this Elise turned slowly to face Makraim and Matsey “I am Earok. Elise is my father's name for me. Earok is an ancient name in my family. We will eat and then I will begin my story. This is my aunt Mayee.”
