Fayt sat up in her bed, petrified. Sweat rolled down her forehead. Nervously, she ran her hand down her arm where the werewolf had bitten her. Nothing. There was no wound. No scar. Absolutely nothing. Not even a bump. Maybe it was just a dream. Could it be just a dream? There was something inside that told her that it wasn't. She needed to find out. She needed to go back to the lake clearing.

Fayt ran through the village and through the trees toward the lake. The moon shone dully from behind the clouds. The entire lake clearing was splattered with blood, but no bodies were found. Not even a bone. The savage wolves had eaten everything.

Fayt walked over to the rock where her beloved had sat, just a few hours ago. Then, the moon shone over her from a hole in the clouds that lived in the heavens. Something was changing. Suddenly, pain shot through her body, and she fell to the ground. Her hands and feet were no longer as they should be, and had become hairy paws. Her whole body trembled and shook as it transformed into that of a monstrous beast. Her jaw widened, and large teeth protruded from her mouth, curving over her lips. Fayt's eyes had become red. And she was hungry….. for human flesh.

She had become a werewolf. With a mournful howl, she bounded back through the woods. The village, she thought, so much easy prey! They wouldn't yell or put up any fight. She called for her comrades and they set off to begin a wonderful feast. Fayt rushed into the nearest house and sunk her fangs into the first delicious bite. She tore it away and gnawed it contentedly as her victim's blood poured over the side of the bed from the open wound and collected in pools on the wooden floorboards. The meat was warm and tender. Fayt was enchanted by the taste, the smell, the pure enjoyment of her first kill. But the moon was sinking down behind the mountains, and the bright morning sun was beginning to rise above the lake. Their night raid would have to come to an end very soon.

She finished her snack and sprinted outside to finish the feast. But first, she dipped her paw in the pool of blood and placed it on the door of the house. When the sun finally rose, nearly half of the houses had been totally cleared out and all were marked by a single bloody paw print.

All the wolves and werewolves met back at the lake, where they cleaned themselves and the werewolves transformed back into their human state. They all slowly left, but Fayt sat on the rock and pondered the night's events. A wolf came up to her side. One of the savages that had murdered her beloved Ryo. She felt a sudden urge to slaughter it, right then and there. But she couldn't bring herself to complete the simple task. It may have gotten rid of her one true love, but it was a member of her pack. For once in her life, she had a family. She belonged with the wolves. When fayt was with them, she was happy.

The wolf brushed up against her, bringing her back to reality. Somehow, the wolf reached into her consciousness. It began to speak to her. “I know that you wish for him back, but he was too dangerous for our pack. We couldn't take any chances. Though there is a way to bring him back.” A picture was forced into her mind, of a boy with brown hair. “Find this boy. His name is Ian. Ask him if he has a stone called life. If he has it, bring him to the lake clearing on the next full moon. Have him stand in the middle of the clearing. The entire pack will come to guard the perimeter and perform the ceremony. The boy will become the sacrifice and Ryo's spirit will live in his body.”

“Thank you, but how do you know all of this? And why are you telling me? If he was dangerous, why do you offer to help bring him back? And why must the Ian boy be a sacrifice? I'd love to have Ryo back, but….. is it worth losing another life in his place? And why him, anyway?” Fayt said aloud.

“Quiet! There may be others listening. Those that do not need to hear these kind of things. I cannot tell you now. But if you follow me, I will lead you to the leader of the pack. He will answer all of your questions.”
