Fayt and Uto threw themselves through the forest and toward the edge of the village. When they reached it, Uto stayed behind for fear of being seen. Fayt ran through all the streets, searching for the boy that could revive Ryo. She turned a corner and ran straight into the exact person she was looking for. He fell to the ground.

“Sorry. I didn't see you. I really didn't mean to knock you down. My name is Fayt.” She offered her hand to the boy and helped him up.

“I'm Ian. Hey, do you know what happened to all the villagers?” He asked.

“They were devoured, just last night, by the savage wolves and werewolves that are led by the white wolf of legend. They reside near the lake clearing inside the forest. I am one of the very few people that escaped into the mountains before the wolves could tear me apart.” She answered. I only got away because I am one of their kind, she thought, but I cant tell him that or he wouldn't save Ryo. “If you come with me, I will take you to the place that we have been staying. It is much safer in our cave.” Yeah, right. A lot safer. There are only a few hundred wolves in this forest.

“Okay. But are you sure that it is safe there?” Ian asked. He was clearly afraid of being bitten by a werewolf. So Fayt gave him a few reassuring words, and he finally agreed to follow her to the cave. They started to walk through the woods. “By the way, Ian, have you found the stone that is called `life'?” Fayt asked. She knew what she wanted. Because without that stone, this boy was as useless as a fork without prongs.

“Yes,” he told her. “I found it right before you ran into me. Why do you want to know?” Fayt could tell that Ian was starting to get suspicious.

“I lost someone dear to me, and I heard that that stone could bring him back to me.” Fayt replied simply. They began to walk again. After a long walk, Fayt found the entrance to Shiro's cave. She and Ian walked inside. The plan is going well, so far. Just as Uto said it would.

Fayt silently picked up a couple of ropes that she had placed in a corner before she had set off for the village with Uto. She reached out for Ian's wrists and tied them tightly behind his back. Next, she knotted his feet together with the other length of rope.

“Ian,” she said, “The truth is, I am a werewolf. I was the one that ordered the vicious attack on the village. And on the next full moon, you will be used as a sacrifice to bring the person I mentioned earlier back to life.” She selected a small flagon filled with a brown brownish liquid from a shelf mounted to the stone wall of the cave. “You will not speak a single word until the ceremony, and this will make sure of it.” Fayt forced the liquid down Ian's throat and then left the cave.

Once outside, she called for Shiro. He bounded to her side, his gleaming white fur immaculate. “Shiro, in your cave is a human. Do not harm it. He is to be the sacrifice for Ryo.” Fayt commanded.

“I will not harm it, my daughter. I have decided to let you have this ceremony for my own reasons. It is because I didn't get to kill him. He wanted a rematch and I plan to give my old friend Shelomith a fair one.”

From that day on, the days passed slowly. Fayt was excited to see Ryo again. But finally, the day of the ceremony arrived. The sun had begun to set and the moon was rising rapidly, so Fayt made her way to the lake clearing dragging her captive, Ian, behind her. In the middle of the clearing sat Shiro. Hundreds of wolves lined the outer rim of the clearing to ensure that Ian wouldn't—no, couldn't—escape. Fayt placed Ian on one side of Shiro and stood on the other side of Shiro.

When all of the wolves were present, Shiro started the ceremony. “We all know why we are here. To revive the mortal enemy of this pack, the legendary warrior, Shelomith the Destroyer.” He turned to Ian. “I would be most grateful if our sacrifice would stand and present the stone of life to the pack.”

Ian did as he was told. He stood up and held his hands out in front of him. The stone appeared there, and Ian hung his head, defeated. Shiro reached up with one of his paws to touch the stone. Though he hesitated, he placed it on the stone. A bright light shot out of the stone. When it subsided, Fayt looked around for Ryo. He was nowhere to be seen. Then she looked at Ian. There was something wrong. He hadn't been sacrificed. If anything, he looked even more powerful than he had before. Ian still held the stone in his hands.

Shiro stood, petrified. “No. It can't be! No! The sacrifice actually worked. You aren't. You can't be!” Shiro stared wide-eyed at Ian.

“But I am, Shiro. As I told you, so many years ago, you are the fool.” The voice that came out did not belong to Ian. But nonetheless, Fayt recognized it. “Are you ready for our rematch?” It was Shelomith. Shelomith raised the hand that still clutched the stone of life. “Come, my brothers!” He shouted. Twenty bony hands shot up from all around the clearing. All around Fayt, zombies rose from their earthy grave. Their moldy, rotten flesh had not quite decayed, casting a horrible smell throughout the lake clearing, even after thousands of years. “Do you recognize them, Shiro? They are my brothers, revived after five thousand years of sleep. They want revenge on your pack. We have all been waiting. Do not disappoint us.”
