Fan Fiction ❯ Dark Temptations Inn: Underground ❯ An All Too Familiar Path ( Chapter 1 )

A blue, cloudless sky. The countryside was quiet, as always. The grass was just the right color of green, swaying in the light cool breeze the wind provided. Sounds of sirens broke the barrier of silence as the cop cars flew down the gravel road, in chase of the black van not too far ahead. A trooper car closed the space between the van, only to be welcomed by one of the doors in the back of the van being thrown open, and the chain of automatic machine gun fire ripped through the vehicle. The vehicle swirved to the left, and flew off into a corn field. The rest of the trooper cars followed, but maintained a safer distance. A helicopter flew overhead, following the van as well.
"I can't get a clear shot of the tire!" Alex yelled to the pilot of the helicoper. He held tightly to that sniper rifle, trying to get a better view of one of those rear tires on the van.
"Forget it! We're nearing the shoreline! They have no where to run!" The pilot replied in his headset microphone, allowing Alex to hear him easily.
Alex cursed under his breath, knowing the chase would be over soon. He just hoped it wouldn't be a massacre. He lowered the sniper rifle for a second to attach the jump cable to his belt, in case he was called down below. He once again raised his rifle, watching the van cross a bridge through his scope; the cop cars were not far behind. He looked to see where the dirt road ended, and he found it stopped in front of a rather large mansion, set right on the edge of a cliff overlooking the sea. Again, Alex cursed, knowing that the criminals would take cover there.
The copter swirled around the area, and Alex watched as the van stopped, and at least six masked men jumped out, running towards the front doors of the mansion, carrying heavy machine guns, mostly. The police vehicles swirved as they reached the mansion. The officers quickly got out and took cover behind their cars as bullets flew towards them. Alex had no clear shot now. The criminals were shooting from the front windows, and there was no way to help the officers from up in the air. He looked back at a few fellow SWAT members, and they only nodded, as if they knew what he was going to say.
More vehicles arrived, along with a SWAT van. The police had the place surrounded, but they were no match for the masked men's automatic fire. Bullets ripped through the cars like they were nothing. A SWAT team took position in front of the mansion with the fellow officers, returning fire towards the windows.
The helicoper positioned itself over the roof of the large mansion. Alex quickly pulled on his kevlar helmet, and switched his rifle with a submachine gun. It would be easier to handle in a close quarters battle. He gave a hand signal to the rest of the SWAT team on the copter. He jumped, and quickly descended the rope, landing cleanly on the roof. The rest of the team were quick to follow, and within seconds the cable was detached onto the roof, and the helicopter flew away.
Alex lead the team towards a nearby ladder, and put his gun on his back, quickly descending the ladder. The rest of the team followed, still using defensive tactics. As they reached the end of the ladder, they found themselfs in a rather strange spot. A ball room, to be exact. There was no time to question, though. He quickly moved towards the doors, and peeked out into the hallways, not seeing anyone. He gave the hand motion for the team to follow, and moved across the hallway, having seen a door with "Stairs" printed upon it nearby. He opened the door to the stairs, and descended it, keeping his gun ready. He could hear the automatic fire of the criminals guns a few floors below. He figured that they had made fortress at the main lobby of the mansion.
After descending several floors, they reached the main floor. Alex opened the door carefully, the rest of the team spotting him. Once he decided it was clear, he made his way into the hallway, not seeing anyone, nor hearing gunfire. It was quiet. Were the criminals already killed? He didn't want to break radio silence, just in case. He crouched slightly as he moved down the horribly dark hallway, filled with doors. It seemed like it had been a hotel at one time.
Alex could barely see the lobby. It was so dark, and there didn't seem to be any humanoid figures. Of course, he didn't let his guard down. He continued to approach the lobby.. peeking around once he did. And he did find someone, but it wasn't what he expected.
A body hung from a chandelier in the lobby, covered in blood like it had been ripped to shreds. It looked as if the chandelier was crushed around the neck and head of the lifeless body. The rest of the team seemed surprised; how could someone do that to themself?
He looked around the rest of the lobby, keeping cover at the corner of the hallway, letting his eyes do the roaming. He could see the rest of the criminals; their bodies were scattered about, covered in blood and lifeless. A few of the bodies were so badly mangled, it made the whole team cringe.
"What happened in here?" Alex spoke into his comm-set, soon getting a reply from one of the officers from outside.
"We thought you put them all to sleep. They stopped firing on us a few minutes ago, we figured you took them out."
"Negative. But.. all of them are dead. They're managled.. like they were thrown around and bent every way possible." Alex replied to the officer, and only got silence, before he got the word that several of the officers were moving in. He and the rest of the team knew something was very, very wrong.
