Alex was quiet on the helicopter down the familiar path that it had taken before. He just sat in his seat calmly, staring down at his recently polished black combat boots. He, as the rest of the team, wore a lighter outfit then before. Alex had a more urban combat jumpsuit on, along with a tactical vest and a holstered handgun. He held on loosely to that submachine gun. He shifted his eyes out the open door of the helicopter, watching the scenes fly by.
"Got fucked like the rest of us, 'ey Cale?" came a voice from the other side of the 'copter.
Alex looked up to see Brian Pinter staring at him, giving an almost excited grin. That look in Brian's eyes sent a shiver up anyones spine. He always had that crazed look. He was the demotions expert on the team, or, as he liked to say it, a "pro at blowing shit up." Alex returned a bit of a smile and nodded. "Can't say I got it any worse in the ass," he replied. A few chuckled, and Alex sat back and relaxed.
"ETA 3 minutes," said the co-pilot.
"I just don't get why they're sending us out here. I don't see why they'd send SWAT out here in the middle of no where to investigate and explore the place," said Amber Barkley. Amber was the only female of the team, a specialist in recon, and sometimes a very helpful person to have around. She had proven herself more then enough times in past operations. Amber was in her late twenties, a red haired beauty. She held tightly to her MP5 submachine gun, looking eager as hell to get on the ground.
"It's a conspiracy. They're sending they're best SWAT group out to the middle of no where so a bunch of terrorists can take over the city," Jack said with a calm, serious expression. But it was no doubt he was being sarcastic. Jack Fillis was the team leader, a person who always seemed to be serious. With a quick and intelligent mind, Fillis made the perfect leader.
"I wouldn't be surprised," said Troy, shifting a bit in his seat. Troy Hubbard was the last one in the team, always quiet and sometimes a little nervous. He was your basic assault member, with a history of an itchy trigger finger. Troy also had specialized in electronics, but most didn't think his electronic skills would be important in this operation.
"ETA 30 seconds!" the co-pilot alerted them again.
Alex just smiled as he watched the others, being one of the youngest of the team, along with Amber. He was the sniper of the group, and had a mind that could not be shifted once he was determined. He and the crew all checked their gear and ran quick checks on their weaponry. Alex was the only one packing three guns; a handgun, submachine gun, and a sniper rifle. Although the crew tried to tell Alex that he wouldn't be needing his rifle, he had set his mind to bringing it. It was like his good luck charm.
"Go go go!" the co-pilot yelled, and as the helicopter touched down in front of the huge mansion, the team piled out, and the helicopter lifted and pulled away, back in the direction of which it came from.
Jack gave a hand signal, and the team got the order. They followed Jack up to the front door of the mansion, and made sure to leave every blind spot covered. Even though the cops had pulled out an hour before they arrived, they still had to be careful. After all, they were looking for a person, or people, hiding in the mansion. And if they could mangle people like they did the other day, then they'd have to be very careful.
They made their way into the lobby, turning on their tactical lights on their submachine guns. After a few seconds, Amber said "clear", and the team relaxed a bit.
Jack and Brian had been carrying a few bags, which they set up on a few of the tables. "This will be our post. While some of us go searching the rest of the mansion, one or two of you will have to stay here and make sure no one makes it out the front door," said Jack, letting his submachine gun rest at his side.
"And if they go out the back door?" Troy spoke up, still holding firmly to his SMG.
"I don't believe there is one, honestly. The only exits seem to be the roof and the front door. There's a few windows they could probably get out of.. but as you all know, this cliff only has one way off, and that's the bridge.
The team understood. The mansion was on the cliff overlooking the sea. No one could get down to the ocean, and the only way out of the area was to either follow down the large hill to the bridge, or to get airborn.
"I'm sure if someone is running towards the bridge, one of us is gonna notice. There's cement barriers that were put up at the bridge, so vehicles aren't going to be coming up here," Jack spoke again.
"How are we going to do this? Start with first floor? Go to second, third, and then fourth? We don't even know if there's a basement in this place," Alex spoke up, folding his arms about his chest after letting his SMG rest at his side.
"Just like that. We'll take care of these upper floors first. And then we'll investigate if there are any lower levels. But I doubt it," Jack replied. "Amber, you stay here while the rest of the team checks out this floor."
Amber sighed and nodded, moving to sit on the nearby couch, but still ready for any action.
"Rest of the team, let's move," Jack motioned for them to follow, and they did, and entered the dark and seemingly endless hallway. They checked every door they came across, but every door was just a room for people to stay in. They were all identical, just like any hotel, but of course they beds and appliances were all covered in a thick layer of dust.
As they reached the end of the hallway, they stopped, looking to the double doors that lead to the library. Jack pointed to Alex and Brian to take open the doors, and they did. They stepped to the doors and opened them slowly, keeping their guns raised and ready. Troy and Jack moved in then, surveying the large, two story library they had entered.
"Wow," muttered Alex, raising his gun up to the second level walkway, making sure no one was hiding up there.
"Clear," said Troy.
"Look at all these fucking books. Whoever lived here was definitely crazy," Brian commented, and Jack smirked a bit.
"Let's head back to the elevator. I want to see if it's operational," Jack said, and the team followed him.
They got in position, and raised their weapons towards the elevator. Jack motioned for Troy to get the elevator to arrive, or to just open. Troy pushed the button, and to all their surprise, the button glowed. Troy stood in front of the doors, and waited for the doors to open, and quickly stepped in.
But nothing was there.
Brian quickly grabbed Troy by the shoulder and yanked him back away from the empty elevator shaft. Troy fell back onto his rear, just staring at the elevator shaft.
"Nice one, Troy," Alex muttered, and was just as awed as the rest of the team as he looked down the elevator shaft.
It was complete darkness. It went down and down. They couldn't even see how far the elevator shaft went down.
"What the fuck..? It's the fuckin Batcave," said Brian. "I bet Batman would have been pretty fucking surprised if you had just bounced on down there." The team chuckled, but Troy was still somewhat stunned. Brian patted him on the back, which let Troy smile a bit, and helped him up to his feet.
Alex looked to Jack, and arched a brow. "What do you think? Did we find our basement?"
"I don't know what we found. If it's a basement, it might as well be a damn nuclear shelter. Which is probably what the elevator leads to," Jack spoke, still looking down the elevator. He and Alex moved away from the elevator, looking to Brian and Troy.
"First floor is clear, then. Troy, you go back to the post and wait with Amber. We're going to go check some of the upper levels," Jack told Troy, and Troy seemed to agree. Troy began to move down the hallway, and Alex lead the way into the stairway, and began to ascend to the second floor.
