Chapter 2 Dawn's P.o.V.

Today was the day of the big Halloween party down on third street. Since school was over and my homework was done, I figured I might as well go.

That girl I met yesterday in the computer lab gave me her number, so I called her and we decided to go together.

I put on my cloak and fake fangs and waited on the porch for her.

She was dressed as a vampire too. She walked up the driveway and jumped on me.

"I want to suck your blood!" She said.

"No thanks! I want to keep all mine!" I yelped and pushed her off of me.

She helped me up then held out her arm. I looked at her blankly for a second then took her arm. We walked, arm in arm, to the party.

"Alright! Hello and welcome to Best Halloween party of the century!" We heard someone say. We watched the man with the microphone. "Today, we have, for your viewing pleasure, an 'actual' witch! Here, to cast a spell on all of you!"

Everyone clapped as the stage burst into flames. As suddenly as they came they left and in their place stood a girl in a black dress and a witches hat.

"For my first trick, I will need a volunteer." She said. Her accent was British, I think.

A cocky looking boy raised his hand.

"You there, you look ok. Come up here please." The boy walked on to the stage. The girl, I couldn't see her very well because I didn't put my contacts in and it's to dark to wear my sunglasses, whispered something to the boy. I had to strain to hear.

"You have to be serious about this for it to work. Are you?"

"Yeah, yeah." He said. As the girl, who I just found out her name was Charlotte, and I pushed our way through the crowd to get to the stage, I saw that the boy was the one who had been teasing me yesterday. I also saw that the girl was Twyla! She glanced down at me then looked back at the boy and started chanting something. It's rare that I can't place a foreign language, but I couldn't tell, this time, what language she was talking in.

Bright lights of green, blue and white swirled around the boy and he smiled saying something along the lines of 'Cheep stage tricks'. The lights started out with just a few but soon more joined them and not long after that, the boy totally disappeared!

Everyone clapped and cheered. But, for some reason, maybe it was the look on Twyla's face, I could tell that, that didn't go right.

"Uh…Thank you and goodnight!" Twyla said before running off stage and out the back.

I started after her, but Charlotte grabbed my arm and said, "Where are you going?"

"Follow me and you'll see." I ran out the back door in the same path Twyla had taken. Charlotte and I followed her down the street and to the park, where Twyla sat on a bench. Twyla noticed us.

"Ah! Who's there?!" She demanded.

"It's only us." I said walking into her sight with my hands up.

She panted nervously. She was about to say something when we heard a blood curdling scream. It wasn't human and it didn't sound like any animal I had ever heard. Twyla seemed startled and looked around before running towards the source of the scream. Charlotte and I followed.

When we reached the point of what we thought was where the scream came from, we all saw the two tails of the creature slip into the forest. None of us were brave enough to move, let alone chase after it. We looked down to see what the monster had been doing here, and the sight that greeted us nearly gave me a heart attack. I felt my stomach wretch and I nearly threw up. What we saw was a corpse, of some kind, Mutilated, beyond recognition. The pink-ish brown flesh oozed with blood and already flies and other insects had swarmed around it, eating away at it until all that was left was bones.

We all stared in horror and disbelief. I was the first to move, making my way around the bones toward the forest, slowly.

Charlotte followed and grabbed my hand. Twyla ran around the bones in the other direction and met us on the other side. We walked slowly into the forest. Suddenly, the air felt heavy. The feeling, the deep emptiness, of fear hung low in my stomach. It growled and I tripped over a root of some kind.

Everything in this area reeked of blood. We looked but could see nothing. It was to dark out anyway. I tripped over someone and fell, that person fell on me. I could see the out line of someone against the moon. They held their hand out and a flame appeared at the end of it. I could now see that the person with the flame was Twyla and the person on top of me was Charlotte. Charlotte got up and helped me to my feet. Charlotte and Twyla grinned. I quirked an eyebrow and looked down at my shirt. It was covered in moss and other various green things.

"My shirt is black! Not green!" I said and whipped off my clothes.

I heard a sniffling sound. Charlotte was about to ask me a question but I shushed her and said, "Listen."

She shut her mouth and listened.

"I don't hear it…" She said.

"Come on." I said and started walking.

In a few seconds we came to a small, about five feet around, clearing. On the other side we saw a young boy, no older than any of us, with his head in his hands, crying. As I approached, he jumped, looked at me, growled and ran away.

"W-wait! Uh…" I managed to say. I glanced around at Charlotte and Twyla. They shrugged.

"I guess we'll have to come back tomorrow…" Twyla said.

We all started to turn around and walk away. But after the turning around, we noticed that the trees had gathered up, forming a barrier, to keep us from returning to our homes.

I turned around and sighed, placing my hands on my hips. Twyla and Charlotte sat on a big rock. I took off my cloak and hung it on a tree. Charlotte put her head in her hands and said, "Well…At least we have a chance to get to know each other better…I guess…" She looked up. "My favorite color is black. What's yours?" She asked leaning back and crossing her legs.

"Black" Twyla and I answered at the same time.

"And food? I like…Chocolate."

"I like rice." I said.

"I like soup." Twyla said, and smiled a bit. We all giggled.

"What kind of music?"

"Dark." we all said at the same time and giggled.

"Um…I hate to burst our little happy bubble, but, what are we gonna do now? We're stuck out here. Our…Your parents will be worried and what about that creature? And that boy?"

"My parents won't care…I'll just tell them I lost track of time and stayed at a friends house." Charlotte said.

"Me too." That was Twyla. "I don't know about the creature and the boy. Let's rest for a little bit then look for him or it or what ever."

A few minutes passed by, all of us looking around, thinking.

"All right! It's been a little while! Let's go!" Twyla said and started to walk off.

Charlotte and I walked hurriedly after her.

After a few minutes of walking in silence I asked, "So what did you do to the boy? Um… Earlier…"

Twyla looked nervous.

"Can you keep a secret?" She asked.

"Yeah." Charlotte and I said at the same time.

"I'm a witch." Twyla said.

"Well that's a given!" I remarked. "But what did you do?"

"I, uh…well…that is…um…I turned him into a frog."

"Really?! Awesome!!! Where'd you put 'im?"

Twyla pulled something small and green from her pocket. It made a croaking sound and looked up at us.

I grinned wickedly.

"Can I torture him for a while?" I asked.

"You most certainly can not!" She said, "In fact, I have to turn him back into a human now."

"Aww! That stinks!" I said and watched as white light enveloped the frog. It grew back to the original size and morphed back into a human.

"Huh?" The dazed boy said. He looked around at Twyla, to Charlotte then to me. "You!" He pointed to Twyla. "And…and you!" He pointed to me. "Witches!" He shrieked.

"And your point is?" Twyla said and started walking.

"I'm actually not a witch… I can just talk 'ta ghosts." I said and stuck my tongue out at him.

"I'm going home!" He said and started to run off the way we had came.

"Not a smart Idea." Twyla said.

"And why not?" The boy asked.

"That way leads to a wall of trees…Your best bet is to come with us. At least you're protected." Twyla said.

"Says who?" I commented. Twyla looked at me with a look that made me feel inferior.

Twyla just kept walking. I followed and behind me was Charlotte, followed by The boy.

"What's your name?" Charlotte asked him.

"Sam." He said.

Sam, the girls and I walked in silence.

It wasn't much longer until we came to a place where the forest began to glow. The trees had absorbed phosphorous and glowed and eerie yellow. Tiny transparent objects began to fly around our heads in all directions.

They were ghosts.
