Fan Fiction ❯ Days of the Week ❯ Thursday ( Chapter 4 )
I tried to forget about the note from yesterday. I think everyone tried.
No one picked it up, threw it away, or even crouched down to look at it. We all just stood there, staring at the words, reading them over and over. We all stood there in silence until the bell for the next class rang. Even then, we could barely move. Someone was threatening Karina and Lisle. Someone who was a jealous bastard by the sound of his threat. I had a feeling I knew who it was. I had a feeling it was the man who went out with Karina in 6th grade…
Ethan.

On Thursday, in Tech. Ed, I tried to sit at the same table as Ethan. I asked Erin to join me, since I didn't want to be the only girl. While I was drawing a shape to cut out, I asked Ethan, "Did you hear about the note?"
He didn't look up from his saber saw. "What note?"
"The note that threatened Lisle and Karina." I heard his saber saw slow down. I continued. "The note that was found on the floor yesterday in social time."
He looked up at me, his face full of anger. "Are you trying to say I put it there?"
I opened my mouth to talk, but Ethan just continued.
"Listen. Just because I was a past boyfriend doesn't mean I want her back. I went out with her when I was 12, and that was forever ago. People get over other people, and I got over Karina. Pretty quickly too. Don't frame me when you don't even know what you're talking about."
"I wasn't framing you, I was just wonder-"
"Shut up." And then he was done.
I just stood there staring at Ethan. Maybe it wasn't him. After that conversation it made me think differently of him. Maybe it wasn't him. But who else could it have been? Maybe it was a secret admirer? Maybe it was someone no one knew liked Karina…
As soon as I thought that, I got scared. Very scared.
I studied my surroundings. It could have been anyone. Anyone at all. Maybe even a girl pretending to be a guy. I just shut down. I stopped moving, stopped working, I might have even stopped breathing. I don't remember, but I did stay there until the bell rang.

After school, I didn't walk home with Lisle. I walked to the back of the school, in the alley way. There was a group of kids standing in the center of the alley, and I knew what for.
To get high.
I walked toward the group as I heard someone say "Ah, my best customer." A very tall black boy emerged from the group. "What would ya like today?"
"Just the usual," I said to him as I handed him a 20. He gave me a pack of smokes. "Thanks Livingston."
"I'm surprised you're still alive after smokin' those," he said to me as he shooed the other teenagers away. They left with money still in their hands. "You know what those things can do ta ya now?"
I lit one up. "What can they do ta me now?" I mocked.
"They can make ya crazy!"
"Crazy you say?"
"Yah! They can make you do insane things, like make ya loose ya virginity, or even kill." He lit up a regular cigarette. "But tha thing is that ya don't remember what ya did. Like if ya had sex the night before, when ya wake up, ya don't remember a single damn thang!" He took a puff. "I took those son of a bitches when I first came ta this school coz I was so fucked up. But then when I found out what they make ya do, I stopped and switched ta these lil' devils." He held up his cigarette box and grinned at it.
"Oh, so after all these years I took them, you tell me this now." I rolled my eyes and smiled. "Oh well, I don't care, I'll still smoke `em till the day I die."
"Dat's good ta hear mon, good ta hear." Livingston smirked as he took another puff. "Don't want ta loose my best customer."
I didn't even think about what he said.
