PROLOGUE:

Over five thousand years ago, there were two races of being in the world, Humans and the Elements. Each element ran wild and free over the lands. Here was their job as beings:

Fire: Fire held the power over all flames and magma. It gave warmth and light in cold and dark places to the humans. It was also used to cook and preserve meat and other foods. But, Fire was also the most unstable of the four elements, with a fury it could consume an entire mountain within days.

Water: Water controlled all the rains and water sources in the world. It quenched thirst and cooled down bodies and such that were too hot to handle. It was also used to clean and purify with. But, Water was dangerous as well. With a raging current to suck under unsuspecting victims and steal away the air they breathed, water was one of the many killers of the beings.

Earth: Earth was the sustainer, the provider of the elements. Ruling over all the plant and Life in general, it provided food and shelter for the weary. But, Earth, though slow to ire, was a nightmare when roused. Great fissures emerged in the ground and swallowed up villages and people alive. Tremors brought down boulders like hail among the Humans, critically wounding or killing those in its path.

Wind: Wind was the freest element, nothing tied it down to one area, it roamed where it pleased. The wind was often considered a blessing, bringing messages of rain or flame to the people. But, Wind was one of the most violent, great spirals that left destruction wherever it went and would take people, sucking them into the air without warning and killing them.

The Great Bodies, or the Planets as we know them today, were in charge of commanding these four. Soon, the Humans began to complain that the Elements were constantly being destructive. The Elements complained of excess power and extreme boredom. As a solution, the Great Bodies created 8 miko and shimpu to channel the extra power into and also, to bring Human and Elements closer together. The Elements split also, dividing into a male and female God. The Fire God called his son "Hioh" or, "Fire King" in his own honor. His bride, the Fire Goddess, called her daughter "Hiko" or "Fire Child". The direction that those two would watch over was that of the South. Water claimed their children next, the Water God calling his son "Tsunamioh" or "Tidal Wave King" and his mate, the Water Goddess, called her daughter "Umibeko" or "Seashore Child". Wind chose theirs after, the Wind God calling his son "Fukukazeoh" or "Great Wind King" and his wife, calling her daughter "Kazeko" or "Wind Child". Earth was slow to name their children but, took great care in doing so. The God called his son "Kusaoh" or "Grass King" and his love, called her daughter "Tsuchiko" or "Ground Child".

For a long time this worked out, the shimpu were admired by all the women and the miko pined after by men. Nothing could have spoiled this happy and peaceful time… At least, that's what was thought. One stormy day and night, all 8 were slaughtered mercilessly by a Wind Adept turned to Chaos. For Chaos had promised the adept power beyond belief and, the power to rule like the Gods. All the Talismans needed to open the legendary Chamber of Destiny had been sealed into the bodies of the 8 Chosen and had vanished as their wielders had perished. The Elements, grieved by this blasphemous crime, begged the Heavens to make their children live again. Also sorrowed, the Heavens granted this request, seizing the eight souls and hurling them 5,000 years into the future and into new bodies. Little do they know that also reincarnated, was the traitor themselves. The spirits of the past have begun to stir within the new eight but, what will the outcome be this time?
