Chapter 2: Hide and Seek
Katara led Santera to the shore but told her to hide in a bush until she gave her a signal. She walked up to where Aang and Sokka where, putting a fake worried look on her face.
“Have you guys found Momo yet? I searched half the forest and I couldn't find him.” Sokka nervously put his hand behind his head and Aang was the one to speak.
“We looked all morning and well…we couldn't find him.” Katara put her hands on her hips and gave them a I'm-not-buying-it look. “Right. I want you guys to meet my new friend Santera and Momo.” Santera walked beside Katara and smiled. “Santera, this is my brother Sokka and this is our friend Aang.” Santera straightened up when she saw Aang.
“You look familiar. Have…have we met before?” Aang asked. Santera shook her head.
“No. I'm from the North Pole.” Aang's eyes lit up with excitement.
“Are there Waterbenders there, willing to teach?” he asked. Santera frowned.
“No. I'm the only one left from the water tribe. The Fire Nation killed everyone and burned down everything.” Aang and Sokka looked shocked.
“That means that…there are no more Waterbenders to help us.” Aang said quietly. Santera's eyes lit up and put on a smile.
“I trained for 12 years. I could teach you. I mean if you want.” Katara's eyes widened in shock.
`12 years? Wow she must be good.'
“How old are you?” Aang asked. Santera stood there, looking like she was thinking, and shrugged her shoulders.
“Well my foster parents said that I was about 112 years old a year ago. I'm now 13, or 113 years old, however you wanna call it.” Sokka looked confused beyond belief. Aang sat down next to Appa and smiled.
“Cool. So am I.”
“But how can you be that old?! Aang's only that old `cause he's the Avatar.” Katara said. Sokka smacked his head.
“Katara! Why did you just say that? She could be a spy for the Fire Nation!” Katara rolled her eyes at her brother and pet Momo who was sitting on Santera's shoulder.
“So do you want me to teach you Waterbending?” Santera asked. Aang nodded his head.
“Yes please. Can you teach Katara too, Santera?”
“Sure. But since my name sounds so much like Katara's, you guys can call me either Sassy or Tera.” Katara and Aang jumped up and down with excitement but stopped when they heard their stomachs growl.
“I guess we're kinda hungry.” Aang said. Katara nodded her head along with Sokka.
“Aren't…aren't you hungry to Sassy?” Katara asked. Sassy smirked.
“If you guys get wood and start a fire, I'll make breakfast.” Sokka tried so hard to stay uninterested, but couldn't help hear her.
Sassy didn't give them time to reply and started walking off. Momo climbed on Aang's shoulder as he and Katara went off to go look for wood, leaving Sokka and Appa alone.
`Maybe I should go with Santera to make sure it's safe to have her around.'
Sokka walked off in the direction Sassy walked off in and left Appa. It didn't really matter though, he was sleeping.
A half hour later, Sassy was making breakfast and the smell made the trio almost drool.
“That smells soo good!” Sokka said.
“Thanks. It's my specialty. Rice!” Sassy finished cooking and gave everyone a bowl of rice and put a plate of berries in front of Momo and put (insert name of food that flying bison's eat) in front of Appa then sat back down and started eating. She looked at her new friends eat in delight and felt proud of herself.
“Hey! Wanna play a game after we're done??” Sassy asked happily. Aang (who has rice on his face) smiled and replied,
“Yeah! Let's play Hide and Seek! That's a fun game!” Sokka nearly choked on his food.
“Wha? Oh no. we're leaving after we pack up.” he said. Katara, Sassy, and Aang looked at him with a smile on their faces then back to each other.
“SOKKA'S IT!” They yelled in unison. All of them got up and ran into the forest, laughing on the way. Sokka let out a defeated sigh and got up to go look for his friends and his sister.
He approached a bush and saw something shiny. He cautiously walked closer and saw a glowing golden yellow.
`Not again. I will get scared this time…'
“Boo.”
“AHH!” Sokka flew back about 10 feet when he landed in a bush upside down. He heard footsteps walking over to him.
“You fell for that again. Literally.” Sokka looked up to see Santera smirking.
“But…your eyes are white. How can they be yellow??” Sokka asked in confusion.
“They change from white to yellow. I don't know why though. Do you need help getting up?” Sokka tried getting up (without her help) and fell back down since he was tangled in a bunch of vines. Santera fell over from laughing as Sokka finally untangled himself from the vines and the bush. He now stood over the laughing girl, smiling.
“Okay, since I found you we have to go look for the others.” Santera stopped laughing and looked at Sokka with a I-don't-get-it look. Sokka's smile faded a bit. “I found you and now you have to help me…” Santera got up and smiled.
“Okay.” Sokka and Santera went off to look for the other 2.
