Chapter 4: Her Guardian has finally arrived
It's been two weeks since the whole school was awed by Clarisse. After airing her commercial, it's like everyone ate something unusual that made them admire her a lot (I think I'm exaggerating too much when it comes to Clarisse being the campus idol in an instant. Sorry.) Their school also gave her all the notes that they have taken up while she was away. Diane got jealous at her because their school even gave her reviewers with summarized terms in different subjects. And after that, Clarisse also felt overflowing happiness inside her because everybody at their campus smiles at her whenever she passes by. Of course there are some that envy Diane because she's Clarisse's closest friend.
“Can you go to my place this Saturday? I've got something for you. And maybe we could also have a very long conversation about everything that we've missed. I mean, we don't have much time to talk here in school because both of us have to do loads of stuff.” Clarisse concluded as she and Diane walked their way to their Cooking class. Each of them is clutching an apron and a bandana so that the food that they are going to cook is protected from their hair.
Clarisse is right. Both of them have several things to accomplish. She still needs to talk to other organizations about the commercial. Diane is also a part of the sports club and the debate club (That's why Clarisse always lose to her whenever they have an argument). And the worst part is they need to study because of the stupid exams! Gosh, they really have hectic schedules.
Diane was speechless for a moment about Clarisse's invitation. She seemed to be thinking seriously about something. Finally, she sighed and once again turned to Clarisse.
“I'm really sorry. I already said yes to someone else who also invited me this Saturday. I'm so sorry. I just don't want to break my promise.” She said with an apologetic look.
Clarisse was shocked that Diane refused. She frowned at her with one of her eyebrows raised. Diane felt a little scared and looked at another direction, avoiding Clarisse's eyes because she knows that Clarisse can smell something fishy. After a moment, Clarisse's frown was replaced by an inquisitive look that also suggests teasing.
“W-what?” Diane innocently pretended that she's clueless of what's Clarisse's reason for acting like that.
Clarisse raised her eyebrow higher and higher until it's almost above her forehead. “You're hiding something from me. Aren't you? Come on, spill it out.” She said with a calm voice but with an annoyed expression.
Diane gasped. She felt that she has no choice but to tell her the truth. And besides, even if she refuses, Clarisse will still threaten her with her Karate knowledge. Diane just chose to spill it out rather than found her bones broken because of Clarisse.
“I'll go out with Xander.”
Clarisse's eyes widened. She never expected that Diane will date someone before she does. She tried to speak but she wasn't able to gather the right words to say. Clarisse just smirked at her and said,
“So, you chose Xander over your best friend.” She said dramatically. Diane looked at her with disgust.
“Quit acting like you're the main character and I'm the villain. You can't use your acting charms with me. I already know you from head to toe.” Diane remarked, making Clarisse glare at her.
Diane turned away and teasingly said, “How `bout that, my friend. I was the first one who was able to go on a date.” And then she walked away, leaving Clarisse alone, still raging in anger. “Be thankful because you're my best friend! If you're not, by this time, I think all the bones in your body are already smashed!” Clarisse heatedly said to herself.
After their P.E. classes, Clarisse went to the locker room to get her uniform and change back. When she opened her pink locker with glitters on the outside, she saw a small white envelop on top of her uniform. “Who could have given this to me?” She asked herself, pulling out the letter and opening it.
Dear Ms. Clarisse,
I'm too shy to ask you out in person so I decided to
do it through this simple letter of mine.
I would be very happy if you'll come with me
to watch the movies this coming Saturday.
I hope to see you at the Cinema at 10 am.
Thanks a lot!
Sam (From Class 1-D)
Clarisse froze for a moment, thinking if this letter is really for her. She stared at it for a minute and finally understood what's happening. She jumped with joy, feeling very excited and a bit nervous because this is her first time to go on a date. Clarisse stuffed the letter inside her pocket the hurriedly grabbed her uniform. “I have to tell this to Diane.” She whispered while putting on her skirt and blouse.
“What?!” Diane screamed after hearing what happened to Clarisse earlier. “You mean, Sam of 1-D asked you out?!”
Clarisse just nodded. She's kind of curious to Diane's reaction. “Why did you responded like that? Is he ugly?”
“Are you telling me that you don't know Sam?!”
“Uh… No. Not at all.” Clarisse said, looking very innocent.
“For your information, the guy who's asking you out is just the captain of our school's basket ball team. He's also the smartest at their class and on top of that,” Clarisse moved closer to her. “He's very handsome and super hot!”
Clarisse's mouth fell open. She can't believe that a very cool guy like Sam will ask her out. Finally, her dream will become reality! Her heart is fluttering with delight. Her body is wrapped with happiness. Diane noticed it and just let her absorb this moment of her life. Well, she's pretty happy for her best friend. She just hopes that everything will turn out just fine.
Friday seemed to be very long for the two of them who are both waiting for Saturday to finally arrive. Clarisse stared out of the window, searching who is Sam among the boys who are playing basketball at the school gym. “I wonder if he's really handsome like what Diane said.” Clarisse talks to herself once again, imaginative images of Sam started to form inside her mind. “Is he tall? Well there's no doubt about that. He's a basketball player.” Her mind seemed to wandering too far already, that she didn't realize that their teacher is calling her to translate the sentence on the board to a simple past tense.
“I'm sorry ma'am.” She said, walking towards the blackboard and grabbed a piece of chalk to write the answer.
Diane sensed that Clarisse's mind is off somewhere, imagining what will happen tomorrow.
“Are you okay?” Diane asked her on their way home.
“Yeah. I'm just feeling hesitant in going out with Sam. I've been thinking about it since yesterday. You know, I really don't know him and to think that I'll go out on a date with him makes me feel a little awkward.” Clarisse said, looking very serious in a soft way.
Diane smiled, understanding her best friend's feelings. It's very easy for her to go out with Xander because they're already more than friends, but less than a couple. But for Clarisse, it really is awkward to go out with a complete stranger.
“I really want to go because I don't want to hurt his feelings. But I'm afraid. I don't know what to expect. You know that this is my first time.” Clarisse muttered in a low voice.
“Just think of it that it's like a blind date. That you'll really be meeting each other for the first time. That's how blind dates work.” Suggested Diane, who is trying her very best to make Clarisse feel even a bit happy.
Clarisse smiled, thanking her best bud for her advice. She doesn't really have to worry that much. After all, she's kind of excited for tomorrow. They continued walking down the streets to their own houses. They parted their ways as they reached the intersection that separates Clarisse's village from Diane's. Clarisse felt a gentle wind struck her face, making her hair move with the breeze. She opened the front door of their house, announcing that she's home even if there's no one else there. She quickly ran to her room, lying flatly on her bed, stared at the high ceiling of her clean and cozy room. When she felt sweat trickle down her neck, she stood up and opened her French window for some air. She rested her right elbow on her study table with her chin landing on her right palm; her eyes are steadily looking out from her opened window. She sighed, thinking all the stress that she had gone through this day. What she saw next didn't really bother her that much, just until she came back to her senses from her daydreaming.
“Oh, a floating small supernatural thing.” She sheepishly reacted, just like she's seeing this kind of flying out-of-this-world object everyday. It flew in circles, like it's doing it to show-off his weird talent. Clarisse stared at it for a moment and it stared back.
“Oh, and this floating supernatural thing is staring back at me. How cute!” She said as if she's drunk. “Hey floating supernatural thing, Hi!” Clarisse greeted while wearing a huge grin on her face.
“Hi there!” The object cheerfully replied with a tiny and cute voice.
“Amazing! It greeted back! How wonderf-” (Finally! She already realized what's happening!)
“WHAT?! A FLOATING SUPERNATURAL THING IS FLYING BEFORE ME AND IT ACTUALLY SAID HI TO ME!” She screamed, shaking her head from left to right, up and down. She rubbed her eyes and closed it, hoping that when she opens it the flying object across her will disappear. She slowly opened her eyelids, with her fingers crossed. To her relief, it was gone. But just to find that it was already inside her room!
“So this is what they call human world. It's amazing here!” The tiny object exclaimed as it zoomed around Clarisse's room, examining every single object inside.
“W-what are y-you?” Clarisse tried her best but these are the only words that she was able to gather.
“I'm sorry. I forgot to introduce my self.” It said, making Clarisse more terrified because it can actually speak. “I'm Tickle, guardian #792 for the year 2006.” Tickle proudly said, But Clarisse can't understand what he's talking about.
“What do you mean by guardian? And #792? And what are you doing here? Why are you talking to me?” Clarisse blurted out her questions simultaneously. Tickle smiled and answered her questions one by one.
“I'm a guardian who was sent by master cupid to help you. #792 is my number because master sent dozens and dozens of guardians before me to help other humans who have similar situations like you.”
Clarisse frowned, feeling more clueless of what Tickle said. “You're a guardian of what?”
“To make things simple, I'll tell you the bottom line. I was sent to you because soon enough, you're going to break the hearts of different guys. And I'm here to monitor your activities so that I can teach you the real meaning of love according to master cupid's handbook.”
“Handbook?”
“Well that's where all the love rules in the world are written. Everything that is associated with love and its proper usage.”
Clarisse can't believe what's happening. She already has tons of problems to solve. The fast approaching exams, her date with Sam, and now this Tickle who claims to be her guardian because she's going to break the hearts of many guys. “What does he meant by that?” She asked herself while lying on her bed until she fell asleep.
“I really hope that I can help this poor girl.” Tickle sighed, as he watched Clarisse fell in a deep sleep. Because he has nothing to do in the meanwhile, Tickle continued to examine Clarisse's things and he never failed to be amazed.
I think this chapter is longer than the previous ones. Thank You very much for reading! Please Review.
