Angelina let out a small sigh and landed on the bed that she and Dan shared. The couple spent another two hours with Chris before coming home. She was hugging one of their big pillows on the bed when Dan entered the room.

“Are you ok?” Dan asked with concern in his voice. “Something seems off… You look pale… and how come you're tired already?” he asked as he came and sat down by her, gently brushing away her long bangs from her eyes.

Angelina shrugged, “I dunno… I'm just tired…” She couldn't think of much to say and she was zoning out. She felt like she could use a nap. She thought about it for a moment and remembered whenever she felt like this that it meant her iron must have been low in her blood. She'd had anemia when she was younger and this is how she felt whenever her anemia acted up. She let out a small sigh, “I think I should have a baked potato for dinner…” she said.

Dan frowned, “Huh? What's that have to do with you being tired and pale?”

A small laugh escaped Angelina, “I think I need some more iron in my blood. When I was younger I'd feel this way and I remember the doctor saying I had iron deficiency anemia.”

Dan perked up at Angelina saying the word “blood” and nodded while listening intently to Angelina. He should have been able to tell that she was sick, but he hadn't smelled any of her blood recently. “Ok… Baked potatoes for dinner… But I don't think we have any potatoes…” he said with a slight frown while thinking about the food they had.

Angelina shrugged, “Can you pick some up from the 24 hour grocery store? Besides, we have a few other things to pickup… Please?” she said with a hopeful expression.

Dan shook his head with a smile, “You're lucky I love you enough to do that…” he said before giving Angelina a quick kiss on the forehead with a slight smirk and grabbed his keys from the dresser by the exit of their room. Angelina fell asleep only a few minutes after Dan left.

Dan blew his breath out of his mouth while leaning on the handle of the shopping cart. He glanced down at the piece of paper in his hand that had a small list and back to the cart's contents. Milk… Check. Potatoes… Check. Those were the last two items on the list. He made his way toward the check out when he heard his name called.

“Dan!” said a six foot tall man who appeared to be slightly older than Dan with curly blond hair that fell past his eyes, dressed up in a black pinstripe suit waved at Dan.

“Jonathan!” Dan said with a forced smile and slight gulp, waved back to be polite. “Damn… What's one of the head vampires doing here? At this hour?” he thought to himself checking his watch, it was going on to three AM. Normally Jonathan would have been at home, making sure that things were in check in the vampire world. Why didn't he send his workers to do the shopping for him?

“How are you?” Jonathan asked cheerfully once he was caught up by Dan. He loved to check up on the local vampires to make sure that they weren't going around feeding their bloodlust, leaving a trail of dead victims behind. Dan was one of his favorites because he was a good little vampire.

“I'm good… You?” Dan managed to get out. He always seemed to have trouble trying to figure out what to say or talk about with Jonathan.

“Good,” said Jonathan, his smile on his face seemed to be plastered on, as if nothing could take it off his face. “Staying out of trouble, right?” he asked as he patted Dan on the shoulder.

Dan slowly nodded, “Yeah… I took Angelina to Chris' place and I got a bottle of “red” wine over there…” he said, emphasizing on the word “red”, figuring that Jonathan would get his hint.

Jonathan perked up when Dan mentioned a girl, “Angelina?” he asked, more interested in their conversation then he would have been otherwise. “Is she your Beloved?” he inquired.

Dan paused for a moment, wondering if he should tell Jonathan or not. He'd find out eventually and it was just a matter of when. “Um… Yeah… I actually found out the other day that she is my Beloved…” he said slowly and cautiously with another small gulp. He felt uncomfortable and wanted to get back home and make sure Angelina was doing ok.

Jonathan's eyebrows went up, obviously intrigued, “Really now? You know, after all these years, I've yet to find my Beloved? Rather odd, don't you think considering that I'm one of the oldest vampires around?” he whispered the word “vampires” so that only Dan could hear it.

The smile on Jonathan's face gave Dan a small case of goose bumps and he had to refrain from shuddering. “Yeah… that is a bit odd…” he said, his mouth going dry.

Then an odd expression appeared on Jonathan's face, one of curiosity, “Do you mind if I see your mark?”

Dan frowned slightly, “Why does he want to see my mark?” he thought to himself. Usually vampires kept their mark to themselves, so it just didn't make sense as to why Jonathan would want to see his mark. But, because Jonathan was an elder and he didn't want to get an elder mad at him, Dan hesitantly rolled up his right sleeve exposing the same symbol that he had seen on Angelina's back the other night, a crescent moon with an infinity symbol in the middle.

Jonathan's plastered on smile turned to a frown when he saw Dan's mark. “It can't be…” he whispered to himself.

“So… Um, yeah…” said Dan, trying to figure out Jonathan's expression. He rolled his sleeve back down over his mark. “Well… I gotta go… Make sure that Angelina is ok…”

Jonathan's eyes started turning black, “You turned her already then?”

Guilt rushed over Dan and he swallowed, “Um… I haven't… It's been hard to... I want to tell her about the situation before I act…” Dan noticed Jonathan's blackening eyes. “Not good,” he thought to himself, “Something's up...” “Um… Is something wrong?” he asked.

Jonathan met Dan's gaze and his eyes slowly turned back to normal and he cleared his throat. “I'm sorry…” he said with a slight pause, thoughts running frantically through his mind. “How about you two come over tomorrow and have lunch with me… Say, 2 o'clock?”

Dan frowned slightly, “Uh… ok…” he said, knowing that if he said otherwise, he'd probably upset Jonathan.

“Good.” Jonathan cleared his throat again and straightened up. “It'll be a delight. See you then,” he said as he turned to go finish his shopping.

Dan stared at Jonathan as he walked away and tried to absorb everything that had just happened. Something was up, that much was obvious. It was just what was up that made Dan uneasy. He looked down into his cart and saw that the gallon of ice cream he'd gotten was melting. “Great… Just great…” he muttered to himself. He quickly exchanged it for a fresh one before checking out.

“Angelina?” Dan called out as he entered their home with their two grocery bags. He set them down on the kitchen table with his keys and called out to her again, “Aaaaaaannnngeeeellliiiinnnnaaa???”

Angelina grabbed her pillow and covered her ears, she didn't want to get up.

Dan frowned slightly when Angelina didn't respond and he headed back to their bedroom, his heartbeat rising slightly in worry. He let out a relieved sigh when he saw Angelina asleep on the bed. “You really weren't kidding earlier when you said you were tired, huh?” he asked.

Angelina threw the pillow at him and rolled over to face him with a yawn, “I told you I was tired…” she said, looking up at him with tired eyes.

Dan sat down beside Angelina and gave her a hug, “Dinner will be ready soon.”
