“Dinner's ready!!!” Dan shouted as he pulled the baked potatoes out of the oven and carefully cut them down to middle to help cool them off. He was able to take the potatoes off of the cooking sheet without feeling much pain, the burns on his fingers healing instantly.
Angelina entered the kitchen still slightly drowsy from her nap, “Smells yummy… How is it that I scored a guy who cooks?” she asked with a grin. She could cook too, but Dan insisted on making the dinner. She sat down at the table waiting for her plate.
Dan smiled back, “I dunno… Maybe cause I thought you were hot and legal?”
Angelina shook her head at Dan and a small laugh escaped her. “You know, you're really sounding like Chris when you say something like that. Is he rubbing off on you after all these years?” she asked not realizing how many “all these years” truly was.
Dan raised his eyebrows and came to the table with her plate, a knife and some butter, “You have no idea,” he muttered as he grabbed his plate off the counter and sat by Angelina. “So… I ran into Jonathan at the grocery store…” he said. He thought he'd ask Angelina instead of surprising her tomorrow.
“Oh yeah?” she asked, intrigued as she buttered her potato. “Isn't that Garry's boss?”
“Yeah…” said Dan, “And I guess he wants us to come over for lunch tomorrow…”
Angelina frowned, “Like… Lunch for us… or lunch for normal people?”
“Um, actually, lunch for us. He's a night owl too ya know,” Dan said. “So, I guess you'll have to dress up tomorrow…”
Angelina raised an eyebrow as she took a bite of her potato while it was still warm, “You have to too, that's the agreement.”
A small laugh escaped from Dan, “Yeah, I know it is…” he said with a slight pause, “So, it's ok if we go?”
“As long as Garry says we can get off work for a little bit… and I'm sure he won't mind because it's lunch with his boss…” said Angelina.
Dan nodded, zoning out slightly. His mind wandered, racing with questions. The two quickly finished their dinner and watched a movie before bed.
“Just a small town girl… living in a lonely woooooorld! She took the midnight train going anywhere!” Journey's “Don't Stop Believing” blared from the alarm clock yet again. Angelina rolled over and hit the “off” button to make the song stop. “Damn it Dan… Can't we please wake up to something else for once?” she pleaded while rolling over to face Dan.
“Mmm.. Why'd you stop it? It was just getting to the guitar solo!!!” Dan said drowsily, his words slightly slurred.
Angelina rolled her eyes and got out of bed, heading for the bathroom to get ready. Dan turned on their alarm clock again and played “Don't Stop Believing” which caused Angelina to let out a moan of irritation. Dan just smiled, “You know you like it!!!” he shouted.
“Let me pee in peace!” Angelina shouted back, blushing at what had just come out of her mouth and giggled slightly. “God I'm such an idiot sometimes….” She thought to herself.
Dan just chuckled and he changed into his work clothes, a nicer pair of black jeans and the uniform tee shirt that Garry required all of the employees to wear. “Hmm… What to have for breakfast?” he asked himself. “Hmm… Cereal will be fine this morning…”
Angelina finished up in the bathroom and met Dan in the kitchen where she grabbed some coco pouffs cereal, “This ok?” she asked Dan who went for another box of cereal. They could never agree on a cereal. If one had a cereal one day, then the other would have that cereal the next day. They tended to switch flavors.
The two finished their breakfast in silence and when Angelina was done, she headed back to their bedroom to get dressed and “prettied” up with some make up. Dan headed to their office and turned on the amp and started playing one of his guitars while waiting for Angelina to finish up. This was their normal routine in the morning.
After a few minutes Angelina popped her head into their “office” and said, “You know I love your music, but it's time for work. Let's go!”
Dan nodded and turned off the amp then grabbed his keys, “The motorcycle ok today?” he asked.
Angelina smiled brightly, “You really have to ask? Of course it's ok!” she said. Angelina loved going on Dan's motorcycle, it was always exhilarating, especially at night. It was just after sunset and most people were home by now or at the bars, so Dan had a tendency to go over the speed limit, which was fine with Angelina, as long as he kept them safe.
The couple made it to work a few minutes before their shift started. “So… should I ask Garry about getting off work early or should you?” Angelina asked Dan as she put on her apron around her waist and put the order forms into one pocket and her pen in the other.
Dan took in a deep breath and blew it out, “I'll do it… maybe Kate will want off and you could earn some extra tips,” he offered.
Angelina nodded and headed over to find Kate. “Mind if I take over?” she asked.
Kate nodded, “Yeah, I'm getting kind of tired and there's some slime balls here tonight,” she said while pointing at this corner of men gathered at a table. “Knock yourself out,” she said as she headed toward the back of the bar to get her stuff. It was going on ten o'clock and people were slowly trickling into the bar. The peak hours for big amounts of people being at the bar were between 11-3AM. It was rare to find work on the graveyard shift, but the bar seemed to cater to people who liked night time.
Angelina scrunched up her nose when the men in the corner waved at her, “Great…” she muttered to herself as she headed over to the table to see what the men would like to order.
Dan let out a small sigh and headed over to find Garry sitting with a costumer on the opposite side of the bar from Angelina. “Um, excuse me, but may I talk to you real quick Garry?”
The short stout man turned to face Dan, “Not now…” Garry hissed, “I'm with an important costumer!”
“But…” Dan started while glancing to see who was at the table with Garry. “Ah… Um… He's why I wanted to talk to you real quick,” he said with a slight shrug.
Garry blinked between Jonathan who was sitting with him and Dan, “You wanted to talk to me about Jonathan?” he asked, surprised that Dan had even talked to Jonathan.
“Yeah…” Dan said while rubbing the back of his neck out of habit because he was nervous, “Jonathan asked me and Angelina over for lunch at 2 and I was wondering if we could get off our shift early to make it.”
Garry eyed Dan, “Is that true Jonathan?” he asked, still in shock that Dan had managed to talk to his superior.
Jonathan nodded, “Yes that is true. I'm actually having a luncheon get together with some of the “younger” crowd. You may want to let them off at about one so they can get ready before they come to my manor,” he ordered.
Garry blinked, “Uh… Oh, ok then… Yes, you and Angelina can get off early, at one… But not a minute before!” he said as he shook his chubby little finger at Dan.
Dan nodded, “Ok, I'll go tell her real quick before I get started ok?” he said, not really asking and he headed for Angelina. He caught up with her at the bar/grill counter where she was filling an order, “So, we get off at one today,” he announced.
Angelina nodded, “Cool, only half a day? Hmm… Well, then I better work hard tonight to get lots of tips to make up for it!” she said with a smile.
