Chapter 1

“Remember”

“Thunder. Lightning. Rain. A great day for a robbery huh?” says Raven as she uses her powers so that the rain won't get on the other Titans.

 

“And a day before your birthday!” Beast Boy adds in, and is hit by Cyborg. Just 729 days ago (1 day less than 2 years ago), Slade had returned, and Raven had the worst day of her life. But not this year. The curse had been lifted, and she would finally have a birthday knowing she was not the apocalypse. Life was good.

 

“COME ON!” Robin yells at them, “HE'S GETTING AWAY!”

 

“Come, we must stop the villain, and then we may go and get the pizza, or the nuts of dough!” Starfire says.

 

All of a sudden the wall of the bank explodes, and someone they hadn't seen in a while came out. He stands in a cool position, and holds a bag of money over his shoulder. The person is none other than Red-X.

 

“Ah, the Titans. I never would have guessed,” he says sarcastically, “Oh no, you will never take me to jail; I won't go without a fight,” he sys, still sarcastically, knowing that almost every villain uses that same speech.

 

“Fine then, you asked for it!” Beast Boy yells, thinking he meant what he said.

 

“X, we can't let you go,” Robin says in anger, as he takes out his staff.

 

“Seriously man, you STILL take life way too seriously,” he says as eh takes out an X, and turns it into a sword.

 

“We've done this before X,” Raven says as she gives robin special armor made from her powers, and Beast Boy turns into a rhino, while Cyborg charges a cannon blast.

 

“Very well,” X says as he lunges at robin, and takes out BB and Cyborg in one shot. Raven stays out, as Robin and X go at it.

 

Robin lunges at him, and breaks X's sword on his staff, but his staff snaps. They then go hand to hand. Robin throws a punch and hits X in the face, cracking the mask slightly. X tries to hit robin, but hurts his hand on Raven's powers, which are still protecting robin. He takes out some weapons and throws them at Robin. Robin slams into a wall, and the armor breaks. He takes out a bird-a-rang, and throws it at X, as X fires an X at him they hit each other, and explode blowing both of them back into walls.

 

“D-d-damn” X says as the voice disguiser starts to malfunction, and his real voice is revealed. It sounds a bit puny, and robin can recognize it, but he doesn't know where. Then he remembers a long time ago. Before Batman, and before he was Robin, when he was in the circus… before his parents died… his only friend… that was the same voice! He is Robin's old friend… but he can't hold back.

 

“Greg…” Robin says in shock, “Your… Greg…”

 

“YOU KNOW WHO I AM! SHIT! I NEED TO GET OUT OF HERE!” X says as he runs for it. He drops the money, and runs for his life. He tries to teleport, but the belt broke… again… but this time it fell apart! He runs and sees a girl and tries to stop but hits into her.

 

“Oh my god,” he says lifting his face out of her chest, “I'm so sorry! I didn't mean t-“ he notices who it is… Starfire… he knew someone was missing before.

 

“Shit,” he says as he gets knocked unconsus.

 

“The police will find him,” Robin says as he ties Red-X up, and removes his mask and all his weapons, and hangs him upside down, “Just like Batman taught me.”

 

“Now can we go home?” Raven asks, the others.

 

“But we NEED pizza!” Cyborg says.

 

“To the pizza we shall go my friends!” Starfire says, as they drag Raven to the pizza place, conveniently across the street.

 

Outside, on top of the bank, a man no older than Robin stands on the ledge looking down upon the heroes; as they sit down to eat. The man wears a black cloak, like Raven's, but with no hood. Instead he wears a black top hat.

 

“Soon Raven… soon,” he says as he sits down to watch her.

When the titans arrive home, Raven walks to her room.

 

“What's wrong Raven,” Beats boy asks her, as Cyborg joins in, followed by Robin, and Starfire.

 

“Nothing, I'm just so used to going to my room on the night before my birthday, and staying there until it is over, that it is hard to stop doing it.”

 

“Don't worry,” Robin says as Beast Boy interrupts him.

 

“We got a movie!” Beast Boy yells as he holds up a crappy old monster movie.

 

“I speak for all of us when I say this, but no thanks Beast Boy” Raven says smiling. She walks into the kitchen and grabs an apple. She looks at the window, and looks at the water through the rain. It looks marvelous.

 

`If only… No… he's probably forgotten…'Raven thinks as she looks outside.

 

The clock strikes midnight, and it is her birthday once again. She sits on a chair, and sighs. In 20 hours, it will be the exact hour when she left. The same minute that she said her goodbyes to him, and her family. She had left her home on her 10th birthday, and it had been 8 years since she was at her home.

 

She tries to think not of how she abandoned him, but how she left her family and met the titans. Without her father abusing her that night she would never have run away, and would still have bruses every day.

 

She would be with him. Maybe on a date, maybe still “only friends” she didn't care. She missed him…

 

“What?!” she asks as she sees in a flash of lightning, a man stands in front of the tower. He lunges up and lands on the roof.

 

In curiosity, she phases through the ceiling to the roof. She stands in the pouting rain, looking at the back of a man, who looks about 18 years old.

 

“WHO ARE YOU, AND WHY ARE YOU HERE!” she yells across the top of the T.

 

He turns and solutes her. He laughs, as he drops back first off the tower. She runs over to the edge, and while she runs lightning lights up the sky. As she looks at where he might be, nothing is there.

 

She phases back in, and precisely on her bed. She changes into some dry clothes and sits on her bed, as to meditate.

 

“Azarath Metreon Zenthos,” she chants, “Azarath Metreon Zenthos. Azarath Metreon Zenthos. Azarath Metreon Zenthi- no… Zenthos… Zenthos… not Zenthi… only he could do that…” she finishes as her pendant begins flashing and the alarm sounds.

 

 

Robin runs up to the door, and knocks it open.

 

“It's him.”
