"All life is only a set of pictures in the brain, among which there is no difference betwixt those born of real things and those born of inward dreamings, and no cause to value the one above the other."

His days were growing shorter; the sun itself seemed to understand that his life would soon be over. The dreams had stopped, his eyes opened to the fate that bound him to the Ones of Before and their plans. It also awakened his Power of Dreams, the strength that passed through the Old Ones and into his very soul. He felt like they had tossed him into the sea like an anchor and could drag him into their realm at any time. Their plans were already being set into motion and whether he liked it or not his involvement was going to occur soon.
“Malaki, hey, MALAKI!” The voice cut its way through his thoughts.
The young man turned to face the voice, a cold distant look filled his eyes making the owner stop in place. A child stood there, just outside his bedroom door it watched him with an alien fear that seemed out of place. The child's brown messy hair needed combed, his green eyes were large with fright and it looked like his teeth chattered.
“Brother,” The small child whimpered, “are you okay?”
“Brandon… I…” Malaki stuttered and the child started to look like his brother. Brandon had always looked the same but… For some reason Malaki thought different for a split second.
“You scared me.”
Malaki face lost the cold distant look and took on the one his brother knew since he was born, one of warmth. He smiled; he got up from his bed and moved to his brother with love in his eyes. Brandon did not back away but in his eyes gleamed mistrust, something had happened to his older brother and he knew it.
“You… You are doing drugs?” Brandon cowered back a bit but did not seem to fear his brother anymore.
“No and you better not do those things, ever.”
“I won't but are you okay?”
Malaki ruffled the boy's hair, “Of course, you okay?”
“I was wondering if I could sleep in bed with you tonight…” Brandon said this half-heartedly, after he had seen his brother maybe it was not a good idea.
“You have Nightmares?” Malaki's voice grew low, the same look of before seemed to want to rise from beneath the surface.
“Yeah…”
“Can I show you something Brand, you got to promise to not tell Dad.” Malaki seemed to shake away the bad emotions.
“Uh-huh.” Brand let his brother led him into the bedroom; he heard his brother shut the door behind them.
“The reason I have been so weird lately is… I have been keeping a secret from you `because I didn't want to scare you.” Malaki sat cross-legged on the floor, with his back against the bed.
“What?”
“Come here.” He grabbed the boy and sat him down in his lap.
Brand tried to squirm away, “What are you doing?”
“You are only, what, 7 or so and they doing the good touch bad touch thing already…”
“WHAT!” He squirmed even more but his brother's arms barely moved.
“Calm down, I just want to show you something. I am not going to touch you with anything, I promise,” Malaki shook his head and laughed.
“O… Okay.”
“The thing these people put in your head, I am your brother. Why would I do anything like that in a million years?”
“You seemed different earlier…”
“Fine, there is a reason for that and I think you already know why.”
Malaki loosened his grip on his brother and took both smaller hands into his; an almost electric jolt went through Malaki. However, Brand did not feel it. Malaki shuddered with pain and almost threw his brother away from his body. Images began passing through the room, like an invisible projector created images against the walls and this Brand could see.
“What is this,” Brand leaned back, his head rested against his older brother's chest.
“I… Think it is the future, your future…”
A man who looked a lot like Brand filled the projected screen; it seemed he fought something that was beyond. Blood seeped through his clothes and a sword stuck out from his chest, a sound of a woman's chuckle filled the room. A red aura flowed around the two brothers and Brand started to feel the jolt of energy passing from his brother, an explosion of power went off in his mind. Brand could see beyond the screen, he could see what was making the false image and it made him scream.
“It isn't the future, “He struggled against Malaki,” something is trying to scare us I can see it!”
A strong wind howled through the room, it tore pictures from the walls and knocked his books from their shelf. The door flew open and shut, each time a view upon a different world would open… A burning world full of crimson light. Giant eye appeared the next time the door opened and it stood open, a tentacle of mist shot out at Brand and caught him around the throat. It choked the boy.
“M- Malak-“
“Stop it,” Malaki let go with one arm, the other held on to the boy at the waist, and used his free hand to swat the mist away.
A golden aura burst from Brand, it escaped from his chest and filled the room with a light so bright they were blinded. A horrible scream issued from creature within the doorway was the last thing either boy heard, the next thing they knew was a knock at the door. Someone on the other side thrust it open, their father stood there with a beer in his hand and a frown on his face.
“You boys playing that damn game again?”
Malaki looked around quickly, he blinked a few times. “Yeah…”
“You need to keep it down or… I will get Mr. Belt, see and he is not in the mood tonight for little boys and screaming. Okay?” Their father slammed the door behind him.
“You okay… Brand?” Malaki turned the boy's face around to meet his own.
The boy's face was slack, his eyes frozen in fear and a bit of saliva fell from the corner of his mouth. Malaki smacked him, not to hard but enough to get the message sent.
“Malaki… What was that?”
“The Ones of Before…”
“They are the monsters from my dreams aren't they?”
“You are awake now, that monster was the one you are connected to. I am connected to one called Morda-Dur-Thax, you may get the name of yours soon enough…” Malaki stood up and pulled the boy up into bed with him.
They both get under the covers; he snuggled against the boy and rested his arms around him. Malaki frowned, he smoothed the boy's brown hair an almost mirror image of himself. He did not want to do that much, he just wanted to show the boy what kind of power he could muster, what had happened had been Brand's doing. The boy was stronger then him, the Old One was connected more to his brother than he was to his own.
“Just sleep, I will explain more to you in the morning.”

The woman walked through the rain; she just let it fall down upon her body without any effect. She just did not care, there were other thoughts that passed through her mind constantly.
`Who am I?'
`Why do I do the things I do?'
`Where am I from?'
Her clothes torn in places and layered are soaked, most of the layers are wet but it does not bother her. She can only remember a few things; they would hover just out of mind in strange dreams that pursued her. Her hair was matted to her scalp; it was a deep orange and would have been pretty if it was cleaned. She did not have the look of a homeless vagrant but that is all she could remember being.
“Maggie…” She murmured her own name a loud.
She knew her own name; she knew she was different from those who walked around her blind to the dreams. Maggie could see it on their faces, these people blind to the Ones of Before and she felt a strange jealousy. Each day was a dream to her; every breath she took seemed to hold less reality over the world she knew. The crimson world she saw seemed more and more real, the Old Ones were coming to wipe out our existence and she wanted it to happen. Then before she could react a boy crashed into her, a small mousey boy with brown hair and they both tumbled to the concrete.
“Sorry, ma'am!” The boy scrambled up, he held a hand out for her.
She saw it.
An aura of gold, it burned from within the boy. She could see the very gates that held the Older Beings back. Some force was protecting the boy and she looked around quickly, for a second a red-like aura had seemed to surpass the young boy. An older boy knew of him, both of them where connected by the Dreamscape in which the Older Beings were kept.
She took his hand, “Than-“
A bolt of red energy shot from the boy's fingers, his protector had hurled her away from him. The very touched had left singe marks on her hand; the gloves she had been wearing were ashes. Once she finally got to her feet, the boy was gone, she could still see the Golden Aura but it was growing faint.
“Soon… Soon the call will be made; the Beings of Before will manifest inside our reality and take control.” She smiled and went along with her walk, this time she whistled as the rain poured down.

The Dreamscape is something I thought up a long time ago, I got the word from Stephen Kings Nightmares and Dreamscapes book. I think… The Dreamscape is where the Old Ones' minds are trapped; their bodies are locked within the earth… By who is still an answer I do not even know.
