Everything You Want
Chapter 7:
This Love
Bella tapped her pencil absentmindedly and desperately struggled to keep her eyes open as her teacher's monotone voice droned on and on about something she was sure she probably needed to pay attention to, but couldn't seem to find the energy to do so.
`God, what is he even talking about?' Bella straightened up in her seat and leaned forward in an attempt to focus.
“And now, based on the facts I have just explained to you, I'd like you all to write a five page essay that will be due at the end of the week.” Bella groaned and dropped her head with a dull thump onto to her desk.
`Oh, of course. I swear I'm cursed…'
`No, your mind is just… otherwise occupied, shall we say…' Bella grinned dreamily and let her thoughts drift back to a certain tall, dark, and handsome male.
Bella had been able to think of little else for the last couple days but Cole. Everything she saw and heard and even smelled reminded her of him. When they were apart, Bella literally counted the minutes until she knew she'd see him again.
`I'm pathetic.'
`Well, yeah, but you're also in love.' Bella frowned.
`Uh-huh, and this love is going make me fail history…'
Bella blinked and scratched her head thoughtfully.' This is history, right?'
Picking her head up, Bella read the title of the text book she was using as a pillow and confirmed that, yes, it was indeed history. Resting her cheek in her palm, Bella sighed and glanced at the clock.
`Fifteen more minutes…'
Cole propped himself up on the wall beside the classroom Bella was in and watched as student after student filed out of the door.
`Where is she?'
Cole had spent his last class period in a Bella induced daze as he impatiently watched the clock tick the minutes by until the time he knew he'd get to see her again. Growing more and more impatient by the moment, Cole pushed himself of the wall and peeked around the corner to see Bella talking to the teacher at his desk. Catching the last bit of their conversation, he frowned.
“I know. I'm sorry Mr. Carbone. I promise to pay more attention from now on, thanks for the notes,” waving goodbye as she tucked said notes into her text book, Bella looked up and smiled as she spotted Cole.
Grabbing his hand and pulling him around the corner, Bella pressed him back against the wall he was previously leaning on and crushed her lips to his.
Responding immediately, Cole tangled his fingers in her hair and slanted her head to deepen the kiss. Bella moaned softly into his mouth and gave herself up completely to the heat threatening to consume her body.
Breaking the kiss, Cole rested his forehead on hers and struggled to regain his breath. “Well hello to you, too. Ya know, I'm not going to be responsible for my actions if you continue to greet me like that.”
Panting a little, Bella grinned. “Who asked you to?” Mesmerized by the heat glowing in Cole's eyes, Bella leaned forward a little and kissed the tip of his adorable nose.
“I hate you.” Cole's widened in surprise and he chuckled.
“Really? Then I'd love to see what you do to people you who you like.” Bella giggled and pushed at his chest. Grabbing his hand as the last bell of the day chimed, Bella dragged him down the hall towards her locker.
“I'm going to fail all my classes because of you!” Cole laughed out loud as Bella cast him a glare.
“I'm serious! If I fail, it's all your fault because I can't focus. Get out of my head, Hastings!” Tugging her hand, Cole spun Bella around and into his arms. Bella gasped as he slipped a hand discreetly beneath her short, silver colored top. Skimming his fingers up and down her soft skin, Cole watched as Bella's blue eyes fluttered closed.
“Sure, I'll get right on that, love,” he murmured as he bathed in the heat radiating from her diminutive form. `God, she's so gorgeous, how did I miss her for so long?' Cole wondered to himself as he soaked up the beauty she so freely exuded.
“Mmmm, ok…” Bella breathed as his fingers left a trail of molten lava everywhere they touched. Chuckling quietly, Cole brushed a soft kiss to her lips and removed his hand from underneath her shirt.
“C'mon wench, we've got things to do.” Snapping out of her stupor, Bella glowered up at him through a thick fringe of lashes.
“Wow, you really know how to sweet talk a girl, dontcha?” Cole grinned widely and tweaked her nose.
“Oh shush, you wouldn't have me any other way, and you know it,” he pointed out as he wrapped an arm around her slender waist and traced circles on the skin exposed by her short top with the pad of his thumb.
“Yeah, yeah, yeah… Keep walking mister…” Bella teased as she matched his long stride and leaned her head on his shoulder.
So consumed with each other, Bella completely forgot all about five page essays, Calculus finals, and basically everything else other than the man beside her.
Unfortuantly for her, reality has a way of coming back to bite you in the ass when you least expect it…
“Call me later after you get back from dinner with your mom and dad, ok?” Bella asked as she unbuckled her seatbelt and leaned over to give Cole a quick kiss. “Oh, and give them a hug for me. I feel like I haven't seen them in forever. Where'd they go this last time?”
“Acapulco. Dad was considering leasing a condo over there but decided not to once he inspected the building.”
“Not exactly up to snuff, huh?” Cole laughed and shook his head.
“No, to say the least. Mom was just happy she got to lay in the sun for a couple of days, so I guess the trip wasn't a complete waste.” Bella grinned, amusement lightening her cerulean orbs.
`That is so like her,' Bella mused as she slipped out of the car and slammed the door. Waving as Cole pulled out of the driveway; Bella shifted her books and dug her key out of her purse.
Mr. and Mrs. Hastings owned a small travel agency on the edge of town and they were always traveling to exotic locations looking for viable property to rent or buy. The two were a complete contradiction to the typical American marriage because instead of being discontent with another, they embraced each others faults and imperfections. Bella admired them immensely and hoped to someday be as happy as they were.
Turning her key in the lock, Bella swung open the door and was instantly swamped with the overwhelming smell of vomit and alcohol. Dropping her purse and text book, Bella covered her nose and rushed to the living room.
Bella gasped at the state of the room. Beer and liquor bottles were scattered about among the broken pieces of furniture that were littered about the area. Scanning around frantically for her father, she finally spotted him sprawled out on the floor between the living room and kitchen, laying in his own vomit.
“Oh my God, daddy! Are you ok? Can you hear me?” Bella flung herself down beside him and moved his head into her lap. She felt around frantically for a pulse, and was relieved to find that he had one. It was weak, but she was just happy that he was breathing.
Pushing him gently from her lap, Bella shot to her feet and ran to the kitchen phone.
“Hello? Yes, this is an emergency. My dad is passed out and his pulse is very weak. I need an ambulance. Please hurry!” Bella choked out as tears streaked down her cheeks.
Bella dropped the phone and sunk to her knees as hysteria started to consume her mind.
`No, no, no, no, no, no! I can't lose him, too! Please God, don't take him from me!'
Bella crawled to her father's still form placed her ear on his chest. Curling herself around his body, she broke into heart wrenching sobs.
`I can't do this. Not again… Please don't leave me…'
