Everything You Want
Chapter 14:
Starting Anew

Stretching her arms above her head, Bella sighed happily and drifted on a warm cloud of contented drowsiness. Enjoying the familiarity of her soft, down comforter, she snuggled into her pillow and let her thoughts drift back to the last couple of weeks following her father's return home.

Bliss. Pure bliss. Life had gone back to the way it was before mom had died for her and dad. Well, except for her being there, obviously. In the mornings, Bella would wake up to her father making breakfast and reading the paper, just like he used to. It was almost like the past year had never even happened, like he'd completely pushed the troubling events from his mind. Not that Bella minded, quite the contrary actually. She couldn't be happier.

Shielding her eyes from the light streaming in through her bedroom window, Bella sat up and sniffed as a tantalizing aroma tickled the inside of her nose. `Mmmm, bacon…' she cheered silently, crawling out of bed and slipping into the hallway.

“Good morning, daddy,” Bella smiled and as she leaned down to peck her father's cheek.

“Good morning, sweetie. Sleep well?”

Pulling down a pink, sparkly coffee cup from the cupboard above the dishwasher, Bella nodded. “Yup, like a baby. How `bout you?”

“Good, good… What are your plans for the day? Anything exciting?” Sitting down across from her father at the table with her mug of steaming coffee, Bella shrugged and took a sip.

“Not really. Cole's gonna be here any minute…” Bella trailed off at the sound of the front door slamming. “Speak of the devil… hey baby.” Grinning, Bella tilted her head up to receive Cole's brief kiss to her lips.

“Yo,” Cole responded as slid into the chair beside Bella's. “Good morning, sir. How are you?”

“Doing well, how about you?” Mr. Campbell replied with an amused glint in his eyes at Cole's polite greeting.

“Good, thanks for asking.”

Bella watched the respectful exchange between her father and her boyfriend with stunned bewilderment. “Good God, you two. You're acting like you've never met each other before. You're creeping me out.”

Cole and Mr. Campbell laughed as Cole squeezed Bella's knee under the table.

“Bella's right, there's no need for you to be so formal, Cole,” Mr. Campbell commented with a small smile.

“Good, I was starting to freak myself out there for a minute.”

Bella rolled her eyes. “Alright, weirdos, I'm going to go get changed. It'll give you guy's time to have your tea and crumpets.”

Cole scowled good naturedly at Bella's back as she retreated to her room with a snicker. Returning his attention to the older man in front of him, Cole leaned back in his chair and observed the domestic scene he presented.

“Looks like you're adjusting well.”

Mr. Campbell set his paper down. “Very well, actually. This is the happiest Bella and I have been in a long while,” pausing, he looked down at the table and continued, “Cole, I want to thank you for all your help. What you said…”

Cole cut him off with a flippant gesture of his hand. “There's no need for you to thank me. I'm just glad that you've straightened up and that Bella's happy. The only thing I want from you is the assurance that you won't hurt her again.”

“Never,” Mr. Campbell insisted vehemently, “I don't think I could live with myself if I did.”

“Good.”

Lounging back into the soft, fragrant grass next to Cole, Bella propped her chin on his chest and narrowed her blue eyes at him. “So, I heard you threatening my dad this morning. What's up with that?”

“I did not threaten, I simply asked him a question,” Cole sputtered with mock indignation.

Bella rolled her eyes and flicked his nose. “Uh-huh, sure,” she replied with a chuckle at his wide eyed expression of innocence.

Replacing his previous expression with a serious one, Cole pulled Bella onto his chest. Tangling their legs together, he gazed up into her eyes. “I'm just watching out for you,” he murmured softly.

Outlining his jaw lightly with the tip of one finger, Bella beamed down into his vibrant emerald colored orbs. “I know, and I love you for it, but aren't you the one always telling me I need to fight my own battles?”

Cole scowled at his own words being used against him and Bella laughed. “Don't give me those puppy dog eyes, Cole Michael Hastings. I will not be swayed on this. For once, I'm going to be the strong one and take care of myself.”

Cole reached up and cupped her cheek in his palm. “Where did this come from, all of a sudden, Bell?”

Frowning thoughtfully, Bella continued to trace his features as she answered. “Not sure, really. I'm just tired of feeling… weak, I guess. Like I'm always depending on you to take care of me.”

Toying with a long strand of her pale hair tickling the planes of his chest, Cole murmured, “I'm glad you're taking charge of your life, but I don't want you to think that I resent worrying about your well being, because I don't. You're my world, Bell.”

Bella sighed and lowered her lips to his. The soft, tender kiss she bestowed upon his mouth was brimming with all the words and feelings of love, affection, and admiration she held in her heart for him, but couldn't convey in words.

Tightening his arms around her petite form, Cole rolled them so he was hovering above her, their legs still intimately intertwined. Knowing that no one could see them in their secluded area of the park, Cole lowered his lips to her neck and proceeded to trail butterfly kisses along the susceptible skin below her ear lobe.

Shivering, Bella pulled his head up to slash her lips across his in a hungry kiss. Taking his cue immediately, Cole ran his tongue sensually along her bottom lip, begging for entrance into her sweet, moist depths.

Parting her lips, Bella complied and moaned as he raced his hands up and down her sides, brushing the sides of her breasts with his long fingers. Parting her slender thighs with one of his own, Cole thrust his knee against her core and relished the cry of pleasure his movement elicited from her.

Tearing his lips from hers, Cole buried his face in her shoulder and panted heavily. “God, I want you so bad,” he murmured huskily into her shirt.

Lust coiling tightly in her lower stomach, Bella held Cole close and struggled to regain the breath he'd stolen from her with his intense kiss. Pushing him away a little, Bella met his glazed green eyes boldly with her own.

“Then why don't you take me?”
