Last time:

Mitsukai was poisoned and had `inner conflicts' that summoned a mysterious evil woman named Kage Tensai who now lurks about his house for no apparent reason whatsoever. :D Have fun!

`He hasn't come out since Kage arrived,' Amy thought as she drew another card from the deck.

"I fold," she said, placing her cards down on the table.

"Yes," Kage exclaimed, slamming her own cards down on the table, "I win again!"

`She's a major pain in the - ` Amy's thoughts were interrupted by a yelp followed by a loud thud from the back hallway that sounded oddly like someone had startled a large dog from his slumber.

Amy stood up, watching the hallway intently. "I'm gonna go check it out; I'll be right back."

"Sure," Kage said, beginning to shuffle the deck, "whatever."

As she made her way down the hall, Amy heard a steady stream of curses coming from Mitsukai's room. `Where did he learn to talk like that,' she thought, pushing the door ajar.

No sooner had Amy opened the door than Mitsukai practically jumped out, racing towards the kitchen.

"Kage," he roared as he entered the living room.

"Yes, my lord," she asked, appearing in front of him in a large cloud of dark purple smoke.

"How many times did I tell you before," he began, anger rising in his voice, "NOT to send your illusions to STAND OVER ME WHILE I'M SLEEPING?!?!"

Kage and Amy winced at the volume, but said nothing. Kage looked up at him from her kneeling position and shrugged. Her eyes flashed a snow-white for a moment, and then returned to their original purple hue.

"Exactly two-hundred forty-nine times, Master Hotogoroshi," she replied, sounding as she thought he really wanted to know.

He sighed, grimacing at the pain in his shoulder. It was mostly healed, but still painful. He walked past her, not caring when she gave a snort of amusement.

When he got into the kitchen he had to retract his wings so he could fit between the counters. Amy heard the sickening crunching noise as the bones compressed, disappearing. She walked into the kitchen to find him sitting at the island bar with a glass of water in front of him, staring at his injured hand.

"Are you alright," she asked, sitting across from him.

He didn't answer, but continued to replace his human features. She watched as his eyes turned back to white around his silver irises and his ears, fangs, and claws all retracted to a normal human length. The tattoo on his forehead slowly faded as he began to stand up.

Without a word, he left, walking into the dojo.

"He'll be fine," Kage said as she walked into the room, sitting in the seat Mitsukai abandoned. "I suppose he's like that because I'm here. Hn…Oh, well. Nothing we can do, right?"

"What are you, Kage," Amy asked, ignoring Kage's optimism.

"What am I," she repeated. "Do you really want to know?"

Amy shook her head in the negative. "No," she said, "I don't. I want to know why Mitsukai hates you."

Kage feigned pain, saying, "he hates me? I never knew!" She began to laugh, but stopped soon after she realized that Amy was just glaring at her. "Fine, fine," she said, "if you want to know that badly I'll tell you. But I'm sure that Master Hotogoroshi won't be happy when he finds out I told you."

Amy nodded, but said nothing.

Kage snorted at her like an angered bull, "fine, don't say anything to me." She shook her head, and then began, "well, I suppose to fully understand why he doesn't appreciate my being here, you'll have to know what my Lord is. Of course, you've probably figured out that he's not human." At Amy's nod, she continued, "well, then, I suppose you'll be a little shocked to know that he is one of the creatures that he works so hard to defend you against."

Amy tensed, her eyes widening perceptively. "W-what," she stammered in surprise, trying to grasp that concept.

"Well, he's not one anymore…not really. Long ago, when he was young, his father gave him a sword. That sword that hung over his bed is the same one."

"Wouldn't he treasure that sword then," Amy asked.

Kage nodded. "He did. At least until I was banished into it. I am his `guardian' in a way."

"You're not making sense. Who banished you? Why were you banished? If you're his `guardian', why doesn't he want you here," Amy's head swam with questions.

"She slaughtered a village," Mitsukai's voice came from behind her.

"She….slaughtered….a village," Amy asked in horror.

Mitsukai nodded. "She was a demon that I spared once. For letting her live, she swore loyalty to me. Anytime I needed assistance, she was summoned to help. But, I soon found out that she had a different idea of what I wanted her to help with." He paused, glaring pointedly at Kage; she seemed unfazed so he continued, "there was a village of demons, keeping humans as slaves and concubines. I went to set them straight, but they attacked me instead of listening. Before they could kill me, Kage was summoned." His eyes glazed over, turning distant at the memory. "I passed out from blood loss, but not before watching her begin to throw the city into darkness. When I woke up, she was back in the sword, but the entire village was slaughtered, humans and demons alike."

Kage did not say anything, but glared at him as he glared back. Amy sat, trying to digest these facts.

"So, you were the one to banish her into the sword," she asked slowly, still in shock.

He shook his head. "I was about to kill her when she hid in my sword. In return for sparing her life and letting her stay there, she became a sort of `guardian'."

"I didn't have much of a choice at the time, did I, Mitsukai," she snapped, her dark aura flaring. "It was either stay in the sword and `help' you, or come out and be murdered!" Her aura flared, colliding with Mitsukai's as his black aura flared to match hers.

There was a moment where the tenseness hung in the air as they had a battle of wills. Mitsukai burst into a flurry of large, black feathers, emerging in his humanoid form. Kage was engulfed by a large, dark purple cloud. When the smoke cleared, Amy could see that she had longer jet-black hair that reached her waist with purple highlights throughout it. A tail poked out from underneath the mass of hair and lowered to wrap around her right ankle. A black ribbon, connected to both wrists, floated in mid-air behind her.

They stood there, engulfed in the sparks from the colliding auras, knocking Amy back against the wall. In a matter of minutes, Kage fell to her knees, grasping her chest, gasping for air. She lifted her head, glared at Mitsukai, then disappeared in a furious storm of purple clouds.

As soon as she left, Mitsukai relaxed, rushing over to help Amy stand up.

"She'll be back by dawn tomorrow. She hates to lose a battle of wills with anyone, let alone me," he said as he led her back to her room.

"Please be careful, Mitsukai," Amy said as she drifted off to sleep. "She may have an Ace up her sleeve."

Mitsukai nodded, walking out of her room to his own. `Very well, dove. I'll be careful.'

He picked up his father's sword, placing it back above his bed then began to drift into a light slumber.
