`Where am I,' Amy thought, but her thoughts echoed around her, disappearing into the black abyss around her.

She looked down at her feet, finding that whenever she moved or even breathed, the ground would ripple light she was standing on water. She looked back up, into the distance. All around her was just an endless void of darkness.

`What am I doing here,' she asked herself, not getting an echo this time.

`Why do you want this,' a voice asked her from somewhere in the blackness.

`What,' Amy asked the voice. `What do you mean?'

The silhouette of a person appeared in the distance. She took a step toward the person, creating more ripples. The ripples traveled toward the figure, climbing up it, waving it back and forth.

After the waves calmed down she could see the figure walking toward her. It slowly formed into the shape of a man, stopping there.

`Why do you want this,' the voice repeated in the same curious tone.

`Why do I want what,' she yelled at the figure.

He shook his head, turning around and starting to walk away. Amy chased after him, the waves not affecting him this time.

`Wait,' she yelled over and over. `Wait for me!'

When Amy finally caught up with the figure, she grabbed his shoulder, spinning him around to face her. Her honey colored eyes met with Mitsukai's warm silver and black ones. As he fully turned to her, his wings flourished behind him, causing a soft rustling noise to echo through this black chamber.

`Mitsukai,' she breathed.

He did not answer, but turned his head to look toward his right. She studied his face before looking. As soon as she moved her eyes from his face, the black void turned into a beautiful garden, filled with flowers and bushes all over the place. Her eyes fell upon the only tree in this garden of heaven.

It was a simple Sakura tree, but when she walked up to it, she found it to be full of white doves. One flew down to rest on her hand as she outstretched it to pet him. It cooed lightly as she rubbed its stomach with her finger.

Before she could react, Mitsukai appeared next to her, startling some of the doves away. When the rest caught sight of him, they flew, scattering some of their feathers on the wind.

Amy huffed, turning to Mitsukai. She was about to chew him out, but stopped when she caught the sad, pained look on his face. `What's wrong with him,' her thoughts again echoing.

He looked down at her with that half-hearted smile he used so often.

`What are you smiling about,' she tried to ask him, but her voice would not work here.

Mitsukai looked back up into the tree, pointing up into one of the highest braches. There, sitting on the top branch, was a tiny dove, staring down at them both. Mitsukai held out a hand and the dove came to rest on it. It cooed as he ran his hand over its head, back and wings.

He looked up at her when she giggled at him. He outstretched his hands, cupping the dove in both palms. He reached it out to her. She took it with a nod of her head, but as soon as Mitsukai let go, the meadow around them melted away and disappeared into the black abyss once more.

`Mitsukai,' she called lightly. `Mitsukai?!'

She turned around at the small whisper of his feathers.

`Thank goodness,' she sighed in her head.

Amy reached out her hand to grab him. When her fingers met the scarred flesh of his left shoulder, he burst into hundreds of small glowing pinpoints of light, slowly fading as they fell to the ground.

The dove in her hands suddenly jumped up and flew a circle around her once before flying into the distance, disappearing into the darkness.

`Little dove, why do you sing?'

Amy fell to her knees, sobbing softly into her hands. She suddenly jerked her head back up.

`Bring him back,' she demanded. `Bring him back now!'

`No, little dove. When the time comes, you shall grow wings and soar with the eagles.' The voice was almost impossible to hear now. `When the time comes, dove…'

"Gah," Amy screamed as she flew into a sitting position, the sheets falling around her hips. `What does it all mean,' she asked herself, unconsciously climbing out of bed. `What does it mean?'

Before she knew it, she found herself at Mitsukai's door, knocking softly. `What am I doing,' she asked, sighing in her head. `He won't care…'

When she didn't get an answer, she pushed the door open slightly. She widened her eyes, trying to see what was in front of her. She finally found the futon on the floor that Mitsukai slept on. She felt her way down to the floor, listening to the steady sound of Mitsukai's breathing.

"Mitsukai," she whispered carefully.

There was a rustle of cloth as she saw him move. She gasped as he suddenly grabbed her arm, pulling her down a little ways to see her.

"Amy," he asked curiously, "what are you doing in here?"

She absentmindedly rubbed the small scars left from his claws, biting her bottom lip. "I'm sorry; it's just - I just couldn't sleep," she whispered back miserably.

She watched as Mitsukai's silhouette sat up, wrapping his arms around her, pulling him closer to him.

"You reek of tears, you know," he stated suddenly, crinkling his nose in her hair where she couldn't see. "What's wrong?"

She sniffed glumly, trying to wipe away the tear trails still on her face. `Stupid, demon senses…' "I'd rather not talk about it, okay," she asked, pulling away and looking into his face.

As he nodded she looked into his eyes. The silver seemed to glow against the full moon behind him, the moonlight glinting off of his slick, black feathers.

"Did you wish to sleep here," he asked, running his claws along her jaw.

She sniffed again and nodded.

"Very well," he said, wrapping his arms around her again.

Mitsukai pulled her into his chest, laying back down on the futon. He cradled her slightly against himself, listening as her breathing slowed to a steady, slumbering pace. `What scared you so badly, dove,' he asked himself.

He slowly drifted off to sleep again, relaxed by the soft, steady sound of her breathing.
