Fan Fiction ❯ Fallen Angel ❯ Awakening Powers... ( Chapter 23 )

[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]

Okay, Mitsukai might look that because it's his demon BLOOD that made him change. So… he's red… yeah… not so sure about the whole lizard thing… ^^ I thought it looked really cool… ^^ In fact, he wasn't even supposed to change. My original plan was for the demon blood to be recaptured before Amy left the Mind… heh heh… well, things don't always go as planned, ne? So… now there's a giant, reptilian Mitsukai standing over Amy, right? ^^ Okay… here goes.

Amy shivered slightly under the intense gaze of the monster above her. Its tail swished from side to side, flowing back and forth like water. It stayed stock-still, watching as she stared back at it, frightened out of her wits.

Its insane, maniacal laughter echoed through her head, as gruesome, graphic images of her blood pooling around her dead body flashed across her vision. Her eyes shot to her left as the creature moved its massive paw, lifting it above her body. It stayed there for several moments, seemingly hesitant of its next actions, before it finally placed the coarse, scaly paw on her chest with what appeared to be a smug smirk on its draconic face.

She gasped in pain as it began pressing down, forcing the air from her lungs. Her body suddenly snapped out of its stupor, and she began fighting with all her might to try and remove him from her chest. Her eyes burned with the fury of the tears she was trying to hold back, but she couldn't quite place a reason to why her skin had suddenly started itching. Ignoring the feeling, she continued to fight against the monster, only receiving more pressure in response.

After a few moments of this torture, Amy felt the innocent itching in her skin turn into full-blown burning as if someone had just lit a fire to her skin. Before she knew what was happening, a brilliant, white light flashed throughout the room, causing her to close her eyes.

When Amy opened her eyes again, the burning had turned into a small tingling feeling and she sat up, no longer pinned to the ground by the giant beast. A noise that sounded oddly like whimpering mixed with a feral growl resounded from her right. Looking to find out what it was, Amy found the huge reptile curled in the corner, cradling its right paw underneath it while glaring up at her with pure hatred shining in its endless white depths.

She made a move to crawl towards it, but as soon as she moved its growling increased ten fold. Amy remained motionless, watching it curiously as it stayed on the ground.

The creature finally made an attempt to stand, but before it made it a full foot from the ground, soon crashed back to the floor in a distraught heap of scales, never taking its eyes from her.

Amy's eyes widened as she caught sight of a trickle of blood slowly trailing away from the monster, sliding out from beneath its vast form. The trickle soon turned into a pool of blood, and rich redness soon flooded towards her as the beast's head began to loll downwards, closer to the ground, its neck sagging with the immense effort of keeping its head up.

Ignoring the thunderous snarl coming from the fiend, Amy slowly stood up, tiptoeing through the bloody mess towards the animal. It made a last-ditch effort to stand, finally succeeding. It loomed over her, the top of her head scarcely reaching the middle of its chest, its elongated, twisting neck almost reaching the ceiling. She looked cautiously at the beast, skimming it over for the wound, soon landing her eyes on its right foreleg. The appendage was mangled terribly, the bones crushed and protruding from its thick, leathery skin, the flesh visible from underneath the stream of blood burnt and smoking slightly.

In frustration, the monster bent its head towards the wounded leg, gently placing its jaws about it. In one swift movement the beast jerked its neck away from the appendage, taking it in its mouth. It dropped the mass of distorted flesh and bone on the ground beside it.

She stepped closer, earning another animalistic snarl. Gently placing both hands on the affronted gash, Amy closed her eyes, not exactly sure what would happen. She felt her skin itch and burn to be soothed suddenly, but remained as she was. Her eyes squeezed tightly in concentration, then flew open as she heard a horrendous shriek. She looked up to find the giant lizard's head thrown back as it released a screech of pain and agony. Amy fell back into the puddle of blood, away from the injured creature.

Its massive head swung back to face her, and she realized suddenly that the red of its scales was fading, the white in its eyes leaking away to display an endless abyss of black beneath. The giant beast slowly, but surely, transformed back into the demon from before.

Mitsukai soon sat before her, eyes widened in shock as he stared at his remaining hand, covered in his own blood. Amy leaned forward, moving to sit on her knees rather than her backside. Mitsukai's eyes turned to Amy, staring in disbelief.

He blinked to clear his mind. Opening his eyes to reveal the metallic silver pupils amidst the black sea in his eyes, Mitsukai leaned forward, reaching out to her. She flinched away slightly, not quite sure of the demon just yet. Ignoring this, Mitsukai wrapped his left hand around her wrist and pulled her into his embrace, resting his head in the junction between her neck and shoulder.

Amy sat there silently, her mind sputtering to a halt before it could comprehend what just happened. After giving her brain a swift kick to start it up again, a cherry-red blush formed on her cheeks and she wrapped her arms around his torso, but just a moment to late as he pulled away to stare at her again.

"You did it," he whispered, barely audible to the young human.

She blinked in confusion, tilting her head to the side to study him curiously.

"You defeated my demon blood," he said a little louder, but still in a hoarse whisper. "It's… it's completely gone. I no longer need to fear it because you have destroyed it."

Amy suddenly realized what he was talking about, and stared sadly into his eyes. "Does this mean your--?"

"Human," he finished for her.

She nodded miserably.

Mitsukai let out a short laugh, and whispered, "No, I am still demon. What you fought and destroyed was my demon blood lust."

"What," Amy asked dumbly.

"A demon's blood lust," he laughed at her, "is its insatiable lust to spill the blood of other creature. While still able to go berserk during a battle, I will no longer crave spilling the blood of others when angered…"

Amy gave him a wet smile as tears began streaming down her face again, flinging herself at him. "I'm sorry I hurt you to do that," she cried into his chest.

Mitsukai tensed, not entirely sure what to do.

"It is fine, Amy," he finally said, reassuringly. "I will be fine."

But this did not help.

"No," she protested. "I don't know what I did, but it hurt you, and now you only have one arm!"

"Look," he commanded, and she pulled back to watch him.

Before she could ask what she was looking at, he began to glow a dark aura, and it crackled angrily around her. She closed her eyes against the sparks, only to open them to find Mitsukai sitting there still, completely whole, both arms in place.

"Y-your arm," she whispered in awe.

"A one time trick," he winced in pain, "I assure you."

Amy nodded in understanding, soon brought out of her awe by the sound of Mitsukai's bass voice speaking to her.

"I think," he started, hesitating a moment, "it is time to explain a few things."
