Falling For You
Chapter 5:
Simply Irresistible

It's bugging me

calling me

and twisting me around

`Breanna Denton. She is…'

“Fascinating,” Devon murmured as he leaned back in his chair and observed the raven haired goddess working diligently on her assignment in an attempt to ignore the curious gazes she knew he was throwing in her direction.

`I don't think I've ever met anyone quite like her,' he thought to himself with a small, amused smile quirking the corners of his mouth. `Fire covered in a thick layer of frost and ice.'

How she managed to hide all that passion and heat beneath that tidy, pedantic exterior was a mystery to him. The kisses they'd shared burned through him, twisted his insides with a yearning he'd never felt before, and despite her adamant denial of any feelings for him, Devon knew she craved for his touch.

`I have to have her…'

Yeah I'm endlessly

caving in

and turning inside out

`God, I wish he would quit looking at me like that. It's almost like he's trying to absorb me with his eyes…' Breanna moaned to herself as Devon's scorching amber orbs burned into her. `I can't take this! He's driving me insane!'

Lurking in the shadows, watching her… She hadn't told anyone about what had happened, but she was sure Cassandra and Brent and all the rest of her friends could tell how jittery and on edge she was.

Breanna felt like she should be wearing a giant red A on her chest or something. Guilt was tearing her to pieces, but so was something else she'd really rather not mention…

Shooting up abruptly from her seat in the quiet study hall, Breanna quickly excused herself and practically fled from the room. Striding slowly down the silent, empty corridors, she pressed a trembling hand to her flushed cheek and let out a groan of frustration.

`Two weeks. This has gone on for two weeks. He doesn't even have to talk to me… touch me. I can feel him staring at me. Waiting patiently for the moment I cave in and surrender.'

`Would that really be so bad?'

`You are so not helping…'

`Such beauty as possessed by Breanna Denton should be illegal,' he thought to himself with a shake of his head, watching appreciatively as she exited somewhat desperately from the room.

`She's the kind of woman you could lose yourself in… I feel like I could drown in the depths of those exotic lavender eyes of hers.'

She was, in every sense of the word, irresistible. Simply irresistible. So enticing, that Devon wasn't sure how much longer he could wait to make her his. It'd never taken him this long to acquire a target, and it was really starting to piss him off.

Maybe it was time for him to step it up a notch, force her over the precipice he knew she was precariously balancing on, because obviously she needed a little nudge. Something he was more than willing to give.

`Poor little lamb… You have no idea who you're up against. It's only a matter of time…'

The afternoon was warm and breezy, big, puffy clouds scattered here and there, allowing the sun to peek out and smile down upon the assorted groups of students lounging in the courtyard on their lunch break.

“So, did you do it?”

Startled, Breanna snapped her head up from her turkey sandwich to gape at Cassandra in shock. “What? Do what? I didn't do anything!” she squeaked as Cassie laughed at her wide eyed expression. Her other friends, Becca, Sabrina, and Elizabeth chuckled at her outburst and then continued gossiping.

“Chill, spaz,” she giggled as she flipped some of Breanna's hair playfully. “I was just wondering if you went and got your nails done for the party Friday. What's your damage?”

Sighing in relief, Breanna shook her head and muttered, “Nothing, don't worry about it, I'm stupid. I-“

“Breanna?”

Panic running cold through in her veins, Breanna turned to confront the owner of the deep baritone voice that had been haunting her dreams for the last two weeks. Putting on her best `I'm in control of this situation' face, she smiled and stood up as she brushed the grass from her short, plaid skirt.

“How can I help you, Mr. Pierce?” she asked, deliberately ignoring how hot he looked with the first two buttons of his white collared shirt unbuttoned, and how sexy it was when the wind ruffled his shaggy brown hair and fell carelessly in silky waves on his forehead.

Why would she notice something like that? It wasn't like she wanted him or something! That was completely ludicrous… She just-

“Breanna?”

“Huh? I mean, I'm sorry, did you say something?”

Snickering, Devon nodded and said, “I just asked if you'd mind showing me around the campus. I keep getting lost, and I'd really appreciate your… assistance.”

“Oh, um… I don't know…”

“Breanna would be happy to show you around, Devon! Right, Breanna?” Cassandra smiled sweetly and elbowed Breanna in the side when she started to shake her head. The other girls simply stared hungrily at him like he was next on the menu.

“Well, I guess that would be ok. Just give me a couple of seconds, and I'll be right with you, ok?” Breanna replied hesitantly as Devon smiled and nodded.

“Alright, I'll be right over here whenever you're ready.”

Spinning around, Breanna slapped Cassandra's arm and hissed angrily, “Why did you do that? I hate that guy!”

Rubbing her arm, Cassie gave her a quizzical look as Becca, Sabrina, and Elizabeth gaped at her like she was crazy. “You told us you barely know him. How do you hate somebody if you barely know them?”

“I, uh, he… Well…”

“You've been acting so weird lately! Good lord, girl. Get a grip,” Cassie commanded forcefully as Breanna winced.

“Yeah, Bre, it's not like it's that big of a deal, just take him around and show him the grounds,” Sabrina chimed in.

“Oh! And find out as much as you can about him while you're at it,” Becca smiled slyly as Breanna sputtered and frantically tried to think of a reason why she should stay far, far away from Devon Pierce.

With that `request,' the girls shoved Breanna forward and stood back to watch as she stumbled toward Devon. Ignoring her so called `friend's' giggles and twitters, Breanna forced herself not run in the other direction and instead focused on how she was going to get herself out of this mess she had fallen into.

Without a word, she stalked past Devon and headed out of the courtyard. She didn't even have to look behind her to know he was following; it was as if her body was hyper alert to his presence. Her skin hummed and her blood ran hot at the sight of him, though the rational part of herself claimed that Brent should be the only one to make her react like that. He loved her. He wanted to be with her. Devon just wanted to claim her.

Yeah it's hurting me

morphing me

and forcing me to strive

It was killing her, the thought of betraying him, but the irrational part of herself, the part she fought so hard to keep under control, continued to torture her with the same question over and over again…

`What if…?'

That secret part of herself was getting harder and harder to ignore, and Breanna didn't know how much longer she was going to be able to resist the temptation of the devil's promises…

To be endlessly

caving in

and dreaming of my love

Reaching the other side of the courtyard devoid of students and away from the prying eyes of her nosy classmates, Breanna spun around to confront the object of her frustration with what she hoped was an air of austerity about herself.

“Devon, this cannot go on, you're driving me crazy! I admit. I am partly responsible for what happened between us in the science lab, but, as I've told you before, I'm seriously involved with someone and am in no way looking for what you're interested in. What we did was a mistake, and I don't wish for it to happen again, do you understand?”

Not waiting for a response, Breanna nervously continued to babble on as Devon's incessantly arrogant smirk remained imprinted on his lips. “I love Brent, and we're very happy together. I don't know why it is you'd ever think that I would want someone like you when I already have a man who loves me in a way you never could. I mean, God, you're selfish and pushy and-“

“Don't you ever get tired of hearing yourself talk?” he cut in sharply as he quickly closed the distance between them, forcing Breanna to either back up or find herself plastered up against a very irritated, very sexually frustrated male body.

“You're right about one thing, Breanna. This can't go on.”

Relief softening the anxious lines in her face, Breanna smiled hesitantly and whispered, “Really? Oh thank God, I'm-“

“No more words,” he purred huskily as he followed her nervous retreat and silently cheered when she found herself trapped between the building and himself. “I'm sick of waiting, and I think it's about time you started telling the truth.”

“Why are you doing this? Why me?” she murmured breathily as Devon poised himself inches away from her trembling form.

“Why…?” he mumbled as he fisted his hand in the thick mane of her long, ebony tresses and brought her mouth mere inches from his own.

Because I want it now,

I want it now

G
ive me your heart and your soul

I'm not breaking down
,

I'm breaking out

That's when she'll lose control

With a low growl, he kissed her. His lips were hot and greedy and his hands were busy as he nudged her legs apart with one of his knees and pushed her short skirt up around her hips. Cupping her through the thin, damp material that hid her most intimate place from his errant digits, Devon caught her whimper in the depths of his mouth as she weakly pushed at his chest.

“Why you? Because you're just like me. Tell me, Breanna. Tell me that you want this. That you want me,” he murmured brusquely as his long fingers dipped inside her panties, arousing her further with his talented touch.

“Never. I'll never be like you, and I don't want you,” she whispered, her mind screaming at her to run while her body burned and ached with the desire to give in. She moaned, arching her hips and drawing him in deeper, forcing her muscles to contract around his fingers, but it wasn't enough. She wanted more.

“You don't want me? You don't want this?” he asked as he licked along the edge of her collar bone.

“No… Oh, God….Ah!” Breanna gasped as intense pleasure such as nothing she'd ever felt before raced through her body.

“Liar.”

`What if…?'

“I…”

“Tell me, Breanna. I need to hear you say it.”

“I can't! What about Brent? What about my family and friends? They'll never understand! They'll hate me!

“No one has to know.”

`Do it. You know you want to…'

Closing her eyes, Breanna could almost swear she heard a snap as the rationality and reasonableness she'd based her entire life around broke and shattered at her feet in a million pieces.

Could she really do this? Sex without love? Pure, unbridled lust? Could she actually give herself to a man she barely knew? A man who only wanted her for her body?

On the other hand, could she really live with the regret of not being brave enough to take that chance? Of discovering a part of herself that only this man seemed to be able to bring out in her, and, at the same time, experiencing the freedom of having something all her own?

The lure of danger, of selfishness is strong… So strong… Especially when the individual in question really doesn't want to resist…

`Brent…Please, forgive me…'

And I want you now,

I want you now…

I feel my heart implode…

and I'm breaking out,

Escaping now…

Feeling my faith grow old…

Ignoring the frantic pleas for sanity and desperate warnings of caution her mind was shouting at her, Breanna rose up on her tippy toes and wrapped her arms around Devon's neck as she whispered the words she'd been longing to say from the moment she'd first laid eyes on him.

“I… want… you…”

“Take me, Devon. Make me forget.”
