Friends & Foes

 

It had been little over a week since the rooftop meeting. Dante had begun to bond with the rest of the team considerably better since his arrival. He helped Robin with his martial arts training, which Robin soon discovered that even though he had trained with “the best,” and had even taken the quest to train with the “true master,” he still hadn't faced an opponent quite like Dante. In short Robin got schooled even with Dante half trying(Dante wasn't trying to kill Robin). Dante even created a sword for him by using a boomerang or Robin's.

It was an interesting occasion when Starfire tried to explain more about who she was and where she came from to Dante.

“So you are not from Earth?”

 

“No, I am from the plant Tamaran.”

 

“Tamaran huh. I don't think that was ever mentioned on Star Trek.”

 

“What is Star Trek?”

 

“Nevermind, but you being an alien sure would explain a lot.”

 

“Do I seem that odd to you?”

 

“Not odd except for the fact that you can fly and shoot starbolts.”

 

“That is typical of all the people of Tamaran, except for the starbolts. I learned that from the Psions.”

 

“A whole race of people who can fly. So if everyone from Tamaran can fly, do all the girls look as good as you.”

Starfire began to giggle and blush, but Raven, who on the way to her room, did not find it so amusing.

SLAP

“OWW What was that for.”

 

“Nothing at all.”

 

“Man that hurt.”

 

Starfire just ignored what had just happened and continued to answer his last question

 

“My sister has been called the most beautiful girl from Tamaran, but she and I do not get along because she is always tries to do something cruel to me in her many schemes.”

 

“Sibling rivalry. Gotta love it.”

 

Dante proved to be a good partner for Cyborg when it came to mechanics. And as for Beast Boy, it was pretty much he and Dante going at it for last place on the gs. As for Raven and Dante nothing much happened between them. They just went on with their daily routines, exchanging words every now and then.

 

It was a week later when the Titans got a visitor

 

The alarms began to sound in Titans Tower

 

“Dante wake up, someone is on the island.” Yelled Cyborg

 

“What are you talking about, and what the hell is that sound?” asked Dante

 

“Get up, someone is trying to break into the tower.” Yelled Beast Boy

 

Dante got out of bed and put his red coat on, and brought along his smgs and of course Ebony & Ivory.

 

The Titans exited the Tower. Slade was there waiting for them.

“Slade! What are you doing?” growled Robin

 

“SO this is Slade. I've been waiting a long time to meet you pal.” Said Dante

 

“Hello Titans, so nice to see you all again,” said Slade in a very sarcastic tone, “and I believe you have a new friend. Hello Dante, I've heard so much about you.”

 

“Why are you here dead man?” asked Dante

 

“To deliver a message, Anathema.” Said Slade

 

“Why did he call you anathema?” asked Starfire.

Dante then drew Ivory and pointed it at Slade

“What are you talking about pal?”

 

“Oh you haven't told them about how you are the son of a heretic and a traitor. That you, just like your father, are a heretic and a traitor as well. You haven't told them that you are a murderer of your own flesh and blood.”

 

“Dante, what does he mean?” asked Robin

 

“What did you do man?” asked Beast Boy

Cyborg had a puzzled look on his face and Starfire looked horrified, but both were staring at Dante.

 

“You are the one who killed your family. Why did you lie?” asked Raven who sounded quite upset

 

“This guy is full of shit.” Said Dante then pulling out Ebony and pointed it at Slade as well.

 

“You know Dante, you remind me of my former apprentice Terra. Both of you were traitors and murderers. If only she were around. I bet you two would have made a great couple.”

When Beast Boy heard this he began to fume. He just wanted to lash out right then.

 

“That's it I'm taken you out Slade.” Said Dante

But just then two white wolves came up from the ground. Dante's expression changed from anger to fright in a heartbeat. Beast Boy took it as a challenge.

 

“Wolves, no problem for me.” He then changed into a wolf (albeit a green wolf) and then charged at Slade.

 

“Titans Atta…” but Robin was cut off

Dante dashed out in front of all the others to put himself between them and Slade.

 

“NO” cried Dante. He had drawn the Sword of Sparda.

 

“Wise choice Dante. The message has been delivered; I shall take my leave.” And with that Slade and the two wolves disappeared back into the ground.

 

“What were you thinking.” Asked Robin

 

“You let him get away.” Said Beast Boy

 

“You just helped Slade.” Said Cyborg

 

“And you disobeyed our leader.” Added Starfire

 

“I know. If I wouldn't have done that all of you would have died.”

 

“You don't know what you're talking about, and you second guessed me.” Said Robin who was extremely angry

 

“I KNOW I DID. Are you a leader or a dictator. I knew something you didn't. I stopped you from making a stupid mistake. Slade came here to deliver a message, and try to bait us into a fight with him and Freki and Geri. He knew if we did that some of us would die. I couldn't let that happen.”

 

“What was the message then?” asked Beast Boy but a question from Raven distracted the others.

“So you know the wolves.” Said Raven

 

“That doesn't matter right now. What matters right now is you learning how to take orders, and not deceiving us as to who you are.” Said Robin. When it comes to Slade he is very sensitive, so when Dante seemingly defended Slade (though he was truly trying to avoid conflict) Robin thought of it as sort of a betrayal. Don't forget Robin is also sensitive about his leadership, and Dante is one of the first to ever outright question it.

 

“First of all I did not deceive any of you. If you want to know what Slade was talking about I will explain inside. Second of all a leader needs to have all the information before he makes a decision because if he doesn't know specific details then he could end up making a bad decision, and costing lives in the process. A leader who can't take objections and expects everyone to do as he says is nothing better than Slade.” Dante was trying to keep his cool, but was having a heard time to keep his normal tone of voice.

 

“If you ever compare me to Slade again I will kick you off this team.” Yelled Robin who at this point was furious. He then drew the sword Dante had made for him. “Do you understand me?”

 

“Put that down, this is exactly what Trigon wants.” Said Dante

 

“How do you know what Trigon wants? Are you working for him? Maybe you are like Terra just as Slade said.” Said Robin

 

“BOTH OF YOU STOP IT NOW!!!” Screamed Raven and Starfire.

 

“This will not solve anything, so please I beg you both: lets all go back inside.”

Then all the Titans quietly went back to the meeting room, and there Dante explained what Slade was talking about.

 

“Ok Raven already knows this, but the rest of you need to know as well,” and after a brief pause “Slade said my father was a traitor and a heretic. To the demon world he is. Two thousand years ago my father, the demon swordsman Sparda, rebelled against the Underworld. He then sealed the portal to the human world. He reigned silently on Earth for many years afterwards. He died when I was around 2 or 3. I have chosen his path as well: to fight against the demon world for the sake of the innocent and for justice.”

The Titans were all silent.

“As for me being a murderer of my own flesh and blood. That is not entirely true.”

 

“How?” asked Raven as if she had seen a ghost.

 

“Raven, I told you that my brother died. That is true, but I'm the one who killed him.”

 

“You did lie to me.” Said Raven

 

“How could you?” asked Robin

 

“Let the man explain.” Interjected Cyborg just in time to cut off any questions from Starfire and Beast Boy.

 

“Thank you Cy. My brother and I were close when we were little, but as we got older we drifted apart. I wanted to help those around me as well as those who cannot defend themselves, but Vergil just wanted power. We fought many times, but about 24 years ago we were fighting at a tower that led to the Underworld. I defeated my brother, and in his shame he jumped through the portal to Hell. 20 years later I'm at Mallet Island trying to stop Mundus from opening a portal to Hell when I met a blue demon who went by Nelo Angelo. Angelo was my brother Vergil. He had a battle with Mundus when he jumped into the portal. Now he was his servant sent to kill me. We battled many times, but in the end I won at the cost of my brothers life.” At this point Dante was very somber.

 

“Dante I'm sorry, you should have told me.” Said Raven

 

“Sibling rivalries never end with a good outcome.” Said Starfire

 

“So you aren't really any of those things that Slade said about you?” asked Beast Boy

 

“To the demon world I am.” Said Dante

 

“Well I don't know if you can be trusted.”

 

“He can be. Robin I trust him. Don't try to play alpha male. Just take his word for it because it's true.” Said Raven

 

“But How do you know?” asked Robin

 

“I JUST DO. I felt it inside of him. He is a great warrior, and he has a good heart.” Said Raven

 

“Umm What about the message?”

 

“Yeah how did you know Slade had delivered a message?” asked Robin

 

“The message was those two wolves. I killed them 2 years ago along with their master Bolverk. The message is that they have been revived, and so have other powerful demons. I just don't know which ones.”

 

“It could be a bluff.” Said Cyborg

 

“You may be right, but those two wolves weren't a bluff.” Said Dante

 

“I'm sure we will find out soon enough.” Said Robin

 

With that the Titans parted ways for the night, but on the way out Dante pulled Beast Boy to the side.

 

“I can tell Terra meant something to you, so don't let Slade get to you because he's just trying to cause friction between us all.” Said Dante

 

“It's cool, but it just pisses me off how Slade just just ju ahhh I don't want to talk about.”

 

“You loved her didn't you.” Said Dante

 

“Yeah.”

 

“Hey bro don't worry about it.”

It was at this point that Dante and BB were on better terms.

Dante was restless from Slade's cryptic message(whatever the message truly was). He knew that something more sinister was hidden in it, so he decided to make a call to the girls who worked at Devil Never Cry.

 

The next morning the alarms sounded again, and this time everyone expected it to be Slade again. It was actually Trish, and Lady.

 

“Who are you?” asked Robin

 

“Whoa lighten up Robin, they are friends of mine.” Said Dante

 

“Let me guess both are your girlfriends.” Said Raven quite sardonically

”Actually no. They work for me, but now since I'm a Titan they have been keepin my shop up and running for me, and keeping updated on anything of interest.”

 

“Well aren't you a colorful bunch of folks.” Said Trish

 

“Nice to see you too Trish. And Lady you look happy as usual.” Said Dante

 

“HA funny. So who are your new friends.” Lady said. She knew Dante had been researching the Titans for awhile, but she hadn't taken up an active interest in learning about them.

 

“This is Cyborg, Robin, the green dude is Beast Boy, that's Starfire, and this is the star of the show Raven.” Dante said standing next to Raven when he introduced her.

 

“So you are the daughter of Trigon. Nice to meet you.” Said Trish

 

“My pleasure.”

 

“Alright Dante you need to get your shit, we've got to get back.” Said Lady

 

“What's the rush?”

 

“Lucia is watching the store by herself, and we don't like to leave one of us there alone for to long.” Said Trish

 

“What stuff did they bring, Dante?” asked Robin

 

“Boss needed a few weapons, so we brought em.” Said Trish

 

“One shotgun, one sniper rifle, a grenade launcher, and the amazing Kalina Ann.” Said Lady

 

“Dude that is a big rocket launcher!” said Beast Boy

 

“Do you think all this will be necessary?” Asked Starfire.

 

“Boss loves to be prepared just in case some demons throw a party that gets to rowdy.” Said Lady

 

“Exactly.” Said Dante

 

“Well we are off. Call us if you need us. Until then, later.” Said Trish, and then the two girls were off

 

“Well they were interesting.” Said Raven

 

“Those girls love this business, and they know what they are doin too.” Said Dante

 

With that the Titans went back into the tower.

 

Later that afternoon the Titans would have to face some familiar foes.

The alarm went off about 6, there was trouble in the northern part of the city. The Titans scrambled to the T Car, and were off. The HIVE Five: Jinx, Gizmo, Behemoth, Captain HIVE, and Seemore decided to cause a little trouble, and they were being led by their new boss Dr. Light. Dr. Light had been planning to get back at the Titans for successive embarrassments the last few times he decided to cause trouble. The HIVE Five was his plan for revenge.

 

“Hold it right there!” demanded Robin

 

“It took you assholes long enough to finally show up.” Said Gizmo

 

“So Titans how do you like my new team.”

 

“We don't. What are you doing here?” asked Cyborg

 

“Waiting on you to arrive. This was just a way of getting your attention.” Said Dr. Light

 

“Well it worked. Titans GO.” Said Robin

 

“HIVE Five ATTACK!” commanded Dr. Light

 

Raven and Jinx continued their rivalry as well as Cyborg and Gizmo. Starfire went up against Seemore. Robin faced Dr. Light, Beast Boy faced Mammoth, and Dante was facing Captain HIVE.

“I've never seen you before. What's your name?” asked Capt Hive

 

“Don't worry, you wouldn't remember it if I told you.” Said Dante

 

“Why is that?”

 

“Because it's hard to remember something when you are unconscious.”

 

“You little Bitch!” and then Capt Hive threw his shield at Dante which he decided to take a little ride on by jumping on top of the shield. When it returned to an astonished Capt Hive, Dante jumped behind him and delivered a roundhouse kick to his back. Capt HIVE was knocked to the ground, but before he could get back on his feet Dante was there waiting with the swords of fire and wind: Agni & Rudra. Dante was using them was a lance and forcing the Capt to block each swing with his shield. The Capt made a horrible mistake when he was forced to shield against a high swing from Dante. This left his midsection open and Dante capitalized by landing a kick right to his chest causing him to soar backwards into a tree. Dante then slammed the swords into the ground causing two streams of fire to come rushing towards the stunned HIVE member. This was Dante's Crawling ability. Capt HIVE tried to block it with his shield, but when the streams hit it they blew up causing him to fly backwards once again. In the midst of Jinx and Raven's battle Jinx noticed the beating her teammate was taking, so she took of towards him and shot one of her magic hexs at Dante.

 

“Dante look out!” cried Raven

Dante saw the hex right before it hit him, but he held up his forearm and seemingly blocked it.

 

“How did you do that?” asked Jinx

 

“Don't worry about it.” Said Dante who then followed up with his release punch that landed right on Jinx's face, and about shattered her whole jaw.

 

“I take it you are ok.” Asked Raven

 

“Perfectly fine.” Answered Dante

Just then Capt Hive was running towards them getting ready to attack, but Raven summoned a car from the side of the road to knock him out of the way.

 

As for the other members of the team they weren't having a ton of trouble. Dr. Light was barely causing a threat to Robin. Every now and then Robin would get hit by one of the Dr's light blasts, but nothing to swing the momentum of the fight. Mammoth and Beast Boy in Gorilla form were just trading blows. As for Gizmo and Cyborg, they were trading blows. At one point Gizmo had his robotic spider legs out, but Cyborg used his hand extension to rip one of them off causing the little mad scientist to loose his balance and fall to the ground. Starfire and Seemore were having a battle of the eyes, but it was mostly Seemore using his x-ray vision to get a good show. Robin and the Dr were fighting ferociously when Robin was forced to duck the Dr's light blasts. He missed the blasts, but Raven was in the path of the blasts. Every one that Light had fired hit her and caused her to fall to the ground with burns on her back. Dante looked back to see what was happening, and when he did Jinx hit him with one of her hexes. With Dante on the ground Capt. Hive took the opportunity to finish off Raven by throwing his shield right at her head. It connected, and this is where it got ugly. Dante saw the shield hit her in the head, and when he got up his eyes were red-the rest of the combatants saw this as well, and began to battle even more aggressively-and when Jinx tried to hit him with another hex it just descentegrated. Capt Hive tried to make a move on Dante, but Dante struck first with a blow to his face. Dante then pulled out Ivory and held it to the Capt's head, who was kneeling on the ground, and called to Dr. Light.

 

“THIS HAS GONE FAR ENOUGH. Call this off or else I will kill him, AND DON'T THINK I WONT.” When Dante said this his eyes were glowing red, and his voice was growling with anger.

 

“Why should I? You won't do anything.” Said the Dr who then felt something shoot right through his left shoulder armor and felt another shot hit the fin on his helmet. The Dr's face went from smug to frightened as he saw that the gun was being pointed at him.

 

“Give yourself up or else he and you both die along with the rest of your little group. I'm not fuckin around SO DON'T test me.” Dante was bluffing about the others, but he was quite serious about killing Dr. Light.

 

“Do it Dr. Light before someone gets killed.” Said Robin

 

“He's not joking, he will kill you.” Added Beast Boy

 

“Ok I surrender.” And with that the Dr gave himself up

 

“Ok you five can go, but if you ever start anything again or get the idea to commit a crime I will kill you all.” Said Dante

 

“Wait you can't just let them go.” Said Robin

 

“Yeah all they will do is wreck more shit.” Said Cyborg

 

“I don't care, we have to go because we have an injured teammate, so I don't want anymore delays to getting her back to the tower.”

 

Robin agreed and let the HIVE 5 go, but Dr. Light was turned over to the police.

 

It was some time before Raven came to, the next morning to be exact; she was hurt quite badly with burns and a head injury.

“What happened to me?”

You suffered a concussion among other things, but you are alright now.” Said Starfire, who along with Dante had been watching her; although, at this time Dante was somewhere else in the Tower.

 

“I still don't feel to swell.”

 

“Rest, and soon you will be better.” Said Starfire

 

Raven then rested some more, and by nighttime she was up and about.
