Honoo of the Demon and the Girl
Part II- Saisei
Sari lay in bed wide awake, she wasn't sick but didn't feel like she usually did on Fridays.
“Come on it couldn't have been real. Chesu is a normal person that thing you saw on the street was your imagination just playing tricks on you right?” She flopped around and finally stuffed her head under her pillow and fell asleep. She heard her grandma come home and knock on her door but she didn't get up. She woke up again in the middle of the night and felt a cold chill run across her back. She stuck her head out form under her pillow and saw her window open. Her curtains blew in wet from rain and her carpet was soaked from an earlier shower that she hadn't noticed. She got up and closed the window with a shiver.
“So you finally get out of bed Sari” she spun around to see it no him a demon.
“I can't believe it. After so many years of reading about things like you and now finally I meet one. What I don't understand is why I'm so scared”
“Because you know that with just a flick I can indent your body into the wall. With just a touch I can break every bone in your body. You're scared because you know how strong I am”
“That may be, but then again you seem to back away from me every time I take a step forward or even raise a hand. Why?” she crossed her arms and looked at him in question
“No reason, just old instinct. I mean I have been alive since old Japan when Inochi hunted my kind. When his child killed my family”
“In the book it said that the priestess's daughter was named Yabi Sari her mother had the same name as mine. I was about to ask my grandmother about that but now that I know you're real. You must know right? You can tell me all about Inochi and his child.”
“I suppose even though it is a boring story. Well let's see Inochi was an ugly little bastard who had a hanyou child with an even uglier human woman. That child was weaker than a dead tree in the middle of the desert. Yet somehow that bitch managed to kill my whole family. That was centuries ago though and Inochi plus his stupid little runt are dead right? Wrong, his child was reincarnated and do you know who? You.”
“What? No way I would have known if I was a demon”
“You read the pages I ripped out. If you deny it then deny it but sooner or later you won't be able to hold back and you'll kill the one person you love most” the black haired demon walked to the window.
“Chesu! Why you? You were so nice to me? The night at the library you were looking for me. You want to kill me, but…”
“No buts. Don't think we were ever going to be friends. When we meet again it won't be like a carton where I say I will kill you. I will kill you. You killed my family I tracked you down and now I am allowing you time to understand just a little bit more. Be careful I can only stop certain demons form killing you”
Sari walked to school, it seemed as if time had scrambled up. She thought it was impossible she thought it only happened in things like Inuyasha but no. She was a reincarnation of a hanyou a child of Inochi the demon in the story she had loved as a child. If the pages from the book were true she was also the daughter of a priestess. Was Chesu afraid of her because she had powers deep within her that could kill him quicker than he could kill her? It was all too much, too much like a story it couldn't be possible. It had to be a prank it just had to be. Jus a sick joke that they would all laugh about later.
The whole day proved her wrong though. Chesu left the school but in every class when she looked outside she saw… saw those golden eyes that were not Chesu's but another demons. Gold, silver, red, she couldn't take it.
“Sari where are you going? Aren't you supposed to take the East bus to the library?” Kuroe caught up to Sari
“I'm no t going today. I'm going to go home and help my grandma”
“Oh ok, hey isn't your birthday coming up? You'll be 14 isn't that cool. Sucks Chesu had to move back to America”
“Ya…”
“So what are ya going to do for your b-day?”
“I don't know yet. Well see ya tomorrow Kuroe”
“Later!” the 2 took separate angles and went home. Sari walked past her house though and went to the park. She looked over her shoulder and would see shadows or eyes following her. Yes her theory of a joke was wrong, demons were watching her where ever she went. No doubt about it she was in danger but... if she went home she would put her grandma in danger too.
Sari sat on a swing and heard rustling behind her.
“Hi… I suppose you already know my name”
“Well duh Sari” Sari turned to see Keitorin laughing.
“Oh well now I feel kind of dumb”
“Well you should, coming here alone was probably one of the dumbest things I've ever seen you do. You should have gone to the library at least you'd be closer to kuroe” Keitorin's face became dark and less joyful. She took a step forward
“Why Kuroe”
“Because at least she could try to protect you and as she would fall in blood you could run”
“What are you talking about?”
“Damn what the hell how stupid are you?!” Keitorin jumped and landed directly in front of Sari. Her eyes had become black narrow slits and her ears were long and pointed at the tip. She smiled showing off 4 sharp fangs.
“I wonder, in shows like Inuyasha there are dog, bird, and so on types of demons. Do you demons have the same qualities?”
“Not really. Some have tails though and some have wings on special occasions. Now shall we”
“So you've been a demon this whole time? Wow that truly is a surprise, and now I see you are one of the demons Chesu cannot hold back. Well then let's see what happens.” Sari leaned back and began to swing. Keitorin stood there
“You might want to kill me or move”
“It just seems too easy. I would think at least something would try to protect you but I guess I was…”
“Watch out!” Sari had swung so far back that it went forward and threw keitorin into a nearby tree.
“Wow I never saw that coming”
“You little… that's it now you're dead”
Sari was surprised as she flew into the air and met the ground faster than Keitorin had even moved. She coughed as Keitorin dug her claws into Sari's shoulders lifting her up.
“Kyaah!” Sari tried to focus on something, anything but… her vision slowly drifted. She felt nauseas and the corners of her eyes only saw black.
“You're a hanyou and likeably to hold powers of a priestess yet, you're so weak! Ha, ha, ha” Keitorin lifted Sari by her neck and…
“Keitorin!”
“Chesu!? You want to protect her?”
“No I want to kill her”
“Well then…”
“I said I want to kill her”
“Then kill her now.” Keitorin threw Sari at Chesu and watched.
“Who ever said I was going to do it now? She's weak, and unlike you. I want an at least half way even fight.” Chesu put Sari over his shoulder and jumped back disappearing.
“Wimp”
Chesu put Sari on her bed and left. Sari opened her eyes and saw him just as he was leaving.
“Chesu…”
Sari sat in class half listening to Arisa, Kuroe, and Burianna while half sleeping or at least healing. She told her grandma that the cuts on her shoulder were from her falling off one of the swings but she knew that her grandma didn't believe her.
“Sari? You awake?” Kuroe waved her hand in front of Sari
“What oh ya hi”
“Hi? Are you sure you're ok? Why don't you go to the clinic?”
“No I'm good. Just a little tired form the weekend that's all”
“O-k well common the bells about to ring for lunch and I brought some cookies I made last night”
“Cool, they aren't poisoned are they?” Arisa joked getting a light push from Kuroe
“Only yours” Arisa stopped as if taking it serious then busted out laughing.
Sari didn't see anything all day but she knew they were there… watching her. She really was more than a basic human girl. She still didn't understand how she was a demon though, she had no strength, no magic, nothing. She leaned back in her chair and closed her eyes. She remembered her mom and the way she would smile at her. Even though she was only 6 at the time she remembered. She wiped away tears that weren't even there and looked out the window. To her surprise she saw Keitorin and Chesu talking. They looked at her and Keitorin gave a sharp cold stare then walked away. When she looked at Chesu he was gone. Why had he saved her? Was it only because he wanted to kill her his self on a different time when she understood a little bit more? He was so kind how could all of this have happened so quickly? There was nothing she could do but sit back and wait, watch, and keep her grandma safe.
Sooner or later you won't be able to hold back and you'll kill the one person you love most. Chesu's words ripped at Sari's heart when she thought of her grandma dead. She would kill herself if her grandma ever got hurt.
“Hey um... Kuroe?”
“Ya?” Kuroe tilted her head just enough so she could see Sari but her hair still covered her face.
“Why haven't you been hanging out with Keitorin lately?”
“I don't know usually we're inseparable but for the past few days she's been… just I don't know it's hard to explain. When I get near her it's like something is pulling me away you know? It's funny though, when I first met her I didn't really like her, as time passed she just grew on me and I felt an odd bond between us. Now that's gone but I feel like I should be near you as much as possible. That really confuses me because I've only felt that for one person before and she's dead…”
“It fits together so perfectly but I'm still stuck on one thing…” Sari thought out loud
“Huh?” Kuroe looked at Sari with an even more confused look.
“Oh nothing, oh ya I was wondering…” `Wait if I stay with her then she might get hurt!' Sari thought holding back a gasp.
“Wondering…?”
“Never mind”
“No common finish”
“I was wondering if you wanted to come with me to the library for a little while after school today”
“Sure, I would stay till you had to leave but I have to go to the store to get some milk and stuff.”
“Another one of your cooking experiments?”
“I wouldn't say experiment, more like fun recipes. You all like them so I thought I'd do some more” Kuroe shrugged and finished marking her paper. She flipped it over and laid her head down.
“What did you write?”
“Nothing, it's just a dumb drawing I was bored.”
“Can I see?”
“Sure, it's pretty bad though”
“Hey you draw better than me” Sari flipped the sheet over and was in aw at the drawing. It was a demonic creature, female, with long black hair and intense blue eyes. Her ears pointed and she wore silver chains around her neck and large bracelets. She sat with another demon creature, this one a male, with long black hair and golden eyes staring in the distance. It looked just like Chesu! The demon girl held out her hands and an odd emerald wheel hovered above her palm. The male was wearing a large red robe and the female wore a short white dress and blue ribbons drooping down her shoulders.
“Did you just make this up?”
“Sort of, it's weird but when I close my eyes and picture someone I picture them as something else.”
“Who are these 2 supposed to be?”
“Heh shh it's a secret so I can't tell” Kuroe got up to the bell and packed her stuff.
“Come on tell me”
“No, now come on or you'll miss your bus to the library”
“O-k” Kuroe smiled at Sari and she smiled back as they walked out of the school with Arisa and Burianna walking behind them.
“Kuroe you can't hide it for long. You both know that this will not last. Soon she'll catch you in your true form and you will find hers as well. Nothing can stop what is to come, no one can stop that dumb hanyou's death not even the one she loves most…” Keitorin disappeared into the shadows.
Kuroe had left and Sari was just about done with putting the books back. Kuroe had asked her if she wanted to come over during the weekend but Sari had to decline and said she had to stay home and help her grandma. She was scared of putting anyone in danger with the demons following her around and stuff. Kuroe had always seemed weird and all but that drawing was just… Sari shook her head and put back the last book.
“Miss. Go-Don I am very thankful for all of your help so I wanted to give you this” the librarian handed Sari a small package
“Oh no that's ok I'm only volunteering and…”
“Please take it you've been so helpful these past weeks”
“Thank you very much” Sari bowed and took the package. She put it in her bag and put the book cart in the back. She left with one last thank you to the librarian and caught her bus.
“I'm home grandma!”
“Oh Sari, how was your day?”
“It was ok”
“Only ok? Is something wrong?”
“No, everything's fine grandma”
“Ok well dinner will be ready in about an hour, why don't you go take a shower and I'll call you down when it's done”
“Ok grandma, grandma?”
“Yes?”
“I love you” Sari hugged her grandma and jogged upstairs
`I love you too Sari, be careful'
Sari started the water and waited till it warmed up. She got in and washed her hair. She got out and tied up her hair, she walked to her room when she heard something crash in her grandma's room.
“Sari are you ok?”
“Yes grandma I just dropped something”
“Ok” Sari went to her grandma's door and listened closely. Nothing not even a scratch, she opened the door and jumped back as a squirrel jumped out of the room.
“Oh thank god it was only that” she let out a breath and closed her grandma's window. The door closed behind her and a warm wind blew over her shoulder. Sari turned and saw nothing. She let out a sigh of relief and walked out of her grandma's room and into her own. She put on her clothes and dried her hair.
“Sari dinner is ready!”
“Ok grandma be down in a second!” Sari threw her towel in the corner and heard a small squeak. She picked up the towel to find the squirrel that had run in.
“Oh I'm sorry I didn't see you there. Here let me help you” she went to pick it up and it scurried under her bed.
“Come on little squirrel you have to go outside” she tried for a few minutes to catch it but it was too fast.
“Ok you can stay in here till I'm done with dinner, just don't make a mess” she gave a kind smile and closed her door.
The squirrel sat there for a moment then came out from under her bed. Slowly it transformed, long orange hair grew from its head and it grew taller into a more human form. Its ears were tall and pointed at the tips with red jewels hanging from the bottom its eyes were pink and narrow with a not so murderous look in them like other demons. She sat on the bed now wearing a long white dress with slits on the side.
“Mm that was delicious” Sari stretched and opened her door to find a demon sitting on her bed, its head turned and Sari's blue eyes locked with pink ones. The demon woman sat with her legs crossed and her hands behind her.
“Hello Sari”
“How did you get in here?”
“You said I could stay for a while as long as I didn't make a mess”
“Y-you're the s-squirrel?”
“Yup” she stood up and Sari saw a long bushy tail
“Wow, oh, so you're here to kill me too?”
“Oh no, no I'm not into that whole bloody gore stuff like the others. Oh how rude of me, my name is Kaika” the woman bowed with a smile
“Why are you here then?”
“No reason, I just wanted to meet the so called reborn hanyou with the powers of a priestess. You are a very big hit with the demons you know”
“Ya…”
“Don't look so down, actually I also wanted to help you”
“With what?” Kaika sat back down
“With your demon form”
“My demon form?” Kaika stood and put her hands together
“Shall we”
“Shall we what, I don't have a demon form”
“Of course you do, hanyou's are only half demon but they still have a form. Though for most hanyou's it's hard to control this form. Some can only change when they are in a certain mood, or if it's cold and so on. If you're a hanyou and were born from a priestess I'm sure you can handle it.”
“That's the things though. My mother wasn't a priestess only the Maya in the book was. My mother was as normal as humans get. That's why it's even harder for me to understand all of this. Demons aren't supposed to be real there aren't people with spiritual powers. That stuff is supposed to be all made up in cartoons and things”
“Haven't you ever thought that the people who made the movies about demons and beings is because they were one or they knew or even saw one? Many have either that or they know the truth and will not give in to the dirty world today”
“Of course I've thought about it that way but… I'm a 13 year-old girl soon to be in high school. I volunteer at a library because I love reading about demons and legends. It's just all too much to comprehend in such short time”
“I understand and all but this is your life now. You have to find your true form or you will die by the hands of those who are afraid of what you can do. You may not know it but you have the ability inside you to just look at something and kill it like that”
“But… for just a hanyou to be able…”
“You're not just a hanyou you are the daughter of Inochi”
“Oh ya, I forgot about that part…”
“Chesu can't tell you because he hates it but… he was in love with you centuries ago…” Kaika fell to the floor and put her hand to her forehead.
“What's wrong!?” Sari jumped up and was thrown back down onto her bed
“We must go. Now!” Kaika pushed Sari out of the window just as something flew by. Sari held on tightly onto Kaika as she ran with such speed.
“K… Kai… Kaika!” Kaika dug her heels into the ground and slowed down.
“What was that? It was so small”
“It's called a un-saisei orb for hanyou's or demons reincarnated it kills them before they can be reborn to the way they were before they had died”
“… great, so now I have demons and orbs to watch out for”
“The orb is controlled by demons but is still very dangerous, the things you need to watch out most for is when Chesu decides to fight you. That is why we must find your form now”
“If you think about it, it could be a dream? I mean the things that are happening are so cheesy. A demon that I thought was a human and my friend wants to kill me. A boy suddenly appears I mean…”
“Shut up! You know it's real, stop denying it! Stop acting like it's something it's not! This is your real life so get sued to it!” Kaika dropped Sari
“Whatever”
“You're just like my sister.”
“Your sister?”
“Yes, my sister was sheltered by my dad. He didn't want her to know what she really was. He took her mirrors out of her bathroom and everything. She was home schooled and could never go outside. She would wake up and scream in the middle of the night. She would say it felt like she was being ripped in two, she didn't know that she had changed form at those times. My mom got sick of my father hiding her from the world and told her everything. She didn't want to believe it and didn't till she saw herself in a mirror. My dad got furious at my mother and they fought for days. One day while they were fighting my sister asked me to take her outside. I was little and didn't know she shouldn't go out, I took her outside and she fell ill. From being inside all of her life her body had grown weak and couldn't fight diseases. She died my mom cried and killed my father in her rage. What I'm saying is my sister denied being what she was until her last day. She grabbed my hand and told me she was what she was and that she loved me. You need to take it like an adult or whatever. Stop saying this isn't real.” Sari wiped away the tears that had fallen free form her eyes.
“I'm sorry, I'm so sorry”
“Don't be, come on let's go” Kaika put her hand out for Sari and pulled her up.
“Ok first we need to try and figure out what make's you want to change…”
Finally they plopped onto the ground exhausted, they couldn't make Sari change. Nothing seemed to have an effect unless they just weren't catching the meaning of the activity they tried happiness, sadness and so on.
“Oh no it's late I need to get home or my grandma…”
“Oh FCUK!” Kaika pushed Sari to the side and was thrown back, Kaika hit a tree and blood soaked her shirt.
“Kaika!” Sari ran over to Kaika only to be thrown back. She looked up to see silky white hair zip past her to Kaika. From the back it looked like a woman with long white hair but as they turned Sari saw it was a man. A demon of course, he had narrow gray eyes and a vertical orange eye on his forehead. He gave a dark smile and took a step towards Sari.
“Tashi! Stay away from her!”
“Kaika, Kaika, Kaika, you foolish girl” the man kept his gaze upon Sari but held Kaika up by her throat, his long nails cut into her neck and more blood shot out.
“STOP! PLEASE DON'T KILL HER! You came here to kill me so kill me!”
“Heh, I'll get to you, you weak hanyou but first” he turned to Kaika, Sari saw the pain and anger on Kaika's face as the demons grip tightened. Sari flinched as Kaika let out a high pitched scream, the demon Tashi dropped her to the ground half dead. He grabbed her tail and… another scream except this one form Sari as she looked at the tail now in front of her.
“Stop it, stop it…” Tashi's claws grew even longer and he thrust them into Kaika's back.
“STOP IT! KAIKA!” a surge of power threw Tashi into a tree breaking it loose form the ground. He turned and growled at Sari… his face filled with rage as he looked at Sari. Her black hair had grown longer and now flowed among the grass, her face had become more mature and her ears pointed at the end with green jewels hanging from them. Her nails had grown longer and she wore silk navy ribbons tied around her arms and a short white dress. She opened her hands to reveal a light that floated up and became a wheel. It was just like the female demon in Kuroe's picture, she opened her eyes that had become a deeper blue. She looked at Tashi and took a step forward. He waved as if a strong wind had hit him, Tashi stood and suddenly Sari was right in front of him.
“Sari… your… form…” Kaika breathed out trying to get up.
“So the little hanyou has found herself, heh you're still weak”
“Die…” Tashi's eyes widened and he looked down to find that Sari had stuck her claws into his gut.
“You little…” Sari took the, what was the wheel now a knife, and stabbed Tashi where his heart used to be. He fell to the ground blood circling him.
“Sari… I guess you transform when a friend is in trouble” Sari rushed to Kaika's side and hugged her.
“Don't die, please don't die”
“I won't, this is only a small injury for me. You've read so much about demons but…”
“I know you would heal quickly but you aren't, you keep bleeding and…”
“It's ok, I'll be reincarnated in a few years”
“No you can't die! I just met you please don't leave me!”
“Not all demons want to kill you, your father and you didn't kill just any old demon. You killed the ones that did harm.”
“Kaika please…”
“Daughter of Inochi I am glad to have met you, I am glad that I could help you. Now you have been reborn…” Kaika's body fell limp and her heart stopped.
Tears rushed down Sari's face as she held Kaika's body.
“It's not fair I just met you! It's not fair!” Sari screamed and another wave of power rushed throughout the area causing everything to shake.
Sari buried Kaika's body and burned Tashi's corpse.
“It's odd isn't it? The tears won't stop coming. Just like when I had to move I kept crying. It made me feel weak but I know that I'm not” she wiped her tears and threw them on the ground, she tried to turn and walk away but could only fall to her knees and cry some more. She felt something brush over her feet and looked to find where Kaika had been buried now covered in pink flowers.
“Just like a movie…”
