Sweet Roses

At times like these I think back to that simple story this started out as and I break down and cry...

------------------

Chaos: Is it just me or is my story getting really weird? My muse is being slightly weird. It's the storm. He goes crazy in storms. Anyway, just so you know, my writers' block has disappeared! ^_^ Just wanted to let you guys know, so rejoice or whatever.

Seks: *trots by wearing a french maids' outfit*

Chaos: ... I'm not going to ask...

------------------

The monster reared up on its hind legs. It had numerous appendages, all of them scrabbling over the surfaces around Croix, Nieni and Nite. Its large fangs dripped burning saliva over the wet grass. The grass hissed in pain and wilted, or just plain burned away. Croix backed away, his body feeling foreign and heavy again.

"I thought you said the monsters were supposed to be really easy at first..." he said in a panicky voice.

Nieni cackled. She turned to look at Croix. She smiled sweetly. "Oh, they were. I've been in this game for a while though you see... I'm not a beginner..."

She motioned to Nite, and he threw a golden cube at her. She caught it and slipped it into her mouth. In seconds, her arms had twisted into the winged ones, and her fingers had cruel talons. Her eyes narrowed cruelly and she smiled, flying into the air. In less than a minute, the disgusting monster was destroyed. Coins rained down over Nieni, who had reverted to her normal self again... If that was normal.

Nieni giggled and caught a few of the gold pieces. She took a few of them, leaving the rest on the ground. Croix bent down and picked one up, looking at it. When he looked up, he saw Nite staring at him. Croix stood quickly, dropping the coin. Nieni was dancing away, so Croix followed her, as did Nite.

"Why do we have weapons if you can kill the monsters that easily?"

Nieni grinned as she skipped ahead of the two. "Oh, I don't feel like fighting anymore tonight, so you guys can take care of them for me."

"... What?!"

Nieni ignored him and kept skipping along. Croix sighed, and Nite seemed to be ignoring both of them. Nieni giggled and turned around suddenly. Nite and Croix had to stop very fast to avoid hitting her, and ended up almost running into each other in the process. As Nieni watched the two trying to untangle themselves from one another, she spoke.

"Monster." she said in a sing song voice. Then her voice turned serious. "Your turn boys."

//Weren't you listening?! Weren't you listening to me damnit?!//

"I want to go home!" Seks cried to himself.

Night was swiftly fading and the sun was fighting to rise. Seks sat on the wet grass, crying to himself. Garreth was sleeping in his room and Dorothy was on the couch. She wasn't asleep, but seemed to be busy with something. Seks curled up into a ball, ignoring the uncomfortable feeling as the wetness seeped through the blanket. His body was freezing from drying in the cold night, but he didn't seem to notice it.

"I miss Croix..." Seks whimpered.

//I hate you... I wish you'd die so horribly... I want to hear you screaming, and I want to see your blood flood the oceans. I want to rip your body to pieces, and watch you suffer... I want to taste your pain...//

Croix gasped as he felt his blood slipping from his body. Claws raked across his chest and he knew he was dying somehow. He hit the ground but didn't feel it. He heard it though. A sickening thud of dead weight. Nite was somewhere, and Nieni refused to help. And constantly, a single thought would run through his mind.

//I'm just human. I can't fight these monsters. I don't even want to...//

Nite started to stand as he saw Croix fall to the ground. The wolf like creature was galloping on horse legs towards the defenseless human. Nieni pulled Nite right back down. Nite looked at Nieni questioningly, but Nieni had her eyes closed as she chewed on a piece of grass. Nite sat down, wondering what Nieni was doing.

"Leave it to him." Nieni murmured.

The creature let out a high-pitched shriek as its body was torn to pieces. Croix mustered the energy to open his eyes. Looming above him was a human figure. Hair of a dark color flowed about the man. It easily would have reached the ground, but instead it floated around him as if a fan kept it constantly in the air. The man wore a white mask on his face that had a shocking blue rose over the left eye.

In his hands, he held a silver rapier. He twirled it in his hands a few times before leaping into the air and disappearing. Croix fought to keep consciousness, but his body hurt so much... Nieni stood, her eyes still closed. She spit the strand of grass out of her mouth and put her hands in her pockets as she walked away.

"Impressive...?" Nite murmured.

"Not really..." Nieni said softly.

//Different. It's not right though...?//

Chance opened his eyes. The ceiling above him was moving. He heard voices talking. He didn't recognize them. The arms that carried him were gentle and kind. He wanted to think about this some more but his head hurt too much. He closed his eyes and drifted back into unconsciousness.

//So intriguing...//

Yumy licked her lips and played with her long fluffy tail. She dropped it and it disappeared into nothingness. Stixx was leaning against the far wall with his head bowed, his eyes closed, and his arms crossed over his chest. Madi sat in a chair, his eyes threatening to close from sheer boredness. Eon was in the corner across from the wall Stixx was leaning against. The shadows hid whatever it was he was doing.

A loud bang followed by smoke filling the room woke everyone. Madi began coughing uncontrollably and Stixx finally walked over and whacked him roughly on the back. When the smoke cleared, Yumy let out a squeak of joy. She pranced over to the figure who had just appeared and wrapped her arms around his neck, lifting one leg in the air as she batted her eyelashes.

"Ooh, sir. You're here...!" she crooned.

The man stood absolutely still for a moment. He then shoved Yumy away. She stumbled awkwardly before landing on her butt hard. She winced and rubbed her rearend while whimpering. The man walked forward a few steps and then stopped in front of Eon. His cape whipped around his legs angrily. It almost seemed to be laughing.

"I trust you did as I asked with the prisoner?" a deep and sensual voice said from beneath the mask.

Eon looked at the caped figure. "Yes." he murmured softly.

Stixx yawned, his eyes cruel as he watched the mysterious figure. "This has nothing to do with the `human' now does it?"

Madi narrowed his eyes but did not turn to look at Stixx. Yumy stood slowly, a bushy fox tail flicking back and forth in the air behind her. "I've done what you asked too, sir!" she squealed.

The figure ignored her. He turned instead to Stixx. "This has something to do with Madi... But we will be finished with him soon enough."

Madi did not seem to hear this. He instead continued fuming at the table. Yumy jumped up and down a few times before gliding over to the man. She nuzzled his shoulder lovingly. He was much taller than her though, so it was more like his arm. Still, she nuzzled him lovingly. He pushed her away and into a wall. She groaned in pain.

"This is all then." the man murmured, walking away. His long dark hair flowed about him like his cape. He paused, and Yumy ran over, licking his boots.

"Ple~ase master..." she whined.

The man growled and kicked her away. She whined like a pathetic puppy and sat on the floor where she had landed. The man disappeared in the same smoke as before, the last thing to disappear his white mask with a strange marking of a blue rose over the left eye.
